Let's Fix SEFCU!

For those of us who aren't really into state/local politics (I try to be informed but it's not always easy)...this is good because? Doesn't this basically mean, "If SB can't get money for sports from the state, neither can UA"? How is that good news? Otherwise SB and their political backers would whine, etc.

Perhaps because the stadium really isn't that old and the monies can be better deployed elsewhere?

Wait, reading the SBU forum the budget also had $12mill for the new arena for further improvements? That's outrageous!!!!!!!

 

If that's the case I'm glad it got vetoed.

While I do agree that getting money out of the state right now is drawing blood from a stone, this is a good outcome.

 

You have to understand what is going on here, and what Cuomo rejected:

 

1) Don't try to sneak pork projects in under my watch;

2) It's even sneakier, and we are pissed, because you tried to do it anyway; and

3) NEW projects are ok, if essential.

 

The Governor basically said the $$$ was earmarked for something else, capital related, and you guys pulled the switcharoo. He did not say projects would not be funded.

 

For example, in our instance with SEFCU, if we can prove a need (e.g. an aging building going 25 years)...we could get funded. There was no real "need" for Stony Brook's stadium. That said, if Stony Brook tried to fund this as a capital improvement project from the outset...it may have been funded. Or, if they shifted internal earmarked capital construction dollars from the general improvement fund.

 

So...while still not great for all SUNY athletics, this is a good result in that our competitor is not getting the handouts it previously has received.

 

And, if done properly...it still means SEFCU could get upgraded.

 

I play this politically funded game every day (most recently with CDTA)...and while frustrating, it is what it is.

Bingo. And because the money was earmarked for two separate projects. Remember...this is also personally politically motivated. Better believe that Cuomo is angling to be a vetted candidate for a Cabinet position if Hillary gets elected.

BTW- I know this is off topic, but talk about a SUNY name problem...

 

All four university centers are incorrectly or incompletely named in the above list. It seems like a small thing, but no company would be happy about going by whatever name a given reporter decides to call it that day.

This list came from the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, so you'd at least think they'd get a few right.

With the new championship banner coming this year we are running out of room in the SEFCU. I would like to see all the banners together, but I think how they do it is the move the most current one to the baseline and all the others are together on the side

Has anyone heard anything about a new scoreboard? There was a rumor going around in the spring that an investment in a new scoreboard was possible.

Just having the screens during the tourney made the place better. I'm itching to get back into the SEFCU.
