I didn't watch the game, but the easiest way for this to be explained would be Penn playing aggressive perimeter defense and going for steals while UA settles for jump shots, and Penn being active inside making most of the UA fouls be on shots sending Penn to the line.

Looked at your post again. Not sure your numbers are valid. 31 foul shots on 9 fouls? Even if they were all on 3 point shots, that would only be 27 foul shots.
