2. There is clearly some talent in the freshman and sophomore classes but I'm not sure I would agree that "this is still a very young team." On offense, 10 of 11 starters are juniors or seniors with only the QB position being played by underclassmen. On defense, 8 of 11 starters are juniors or seniors.
3. Cornell game notes are up, mentions the bruised kidney but nothing else. The two-deep chart at QB says DANIEL BOCANEGRA (6-1, 195, So.) or FRANK BLASINSKY (6-1, 190, Fr.) 16518 I guess we will know more in the next day or two, but the preliminary report (and I stress preliminary) is that the injury is not serious and he will hopefully be available. But again it is uncertain when or how much he will be able to practice this week. Barksdale's status is also uncertain (sprained ankle) and will be evaluated day to day. In his case, the hard playing surface at Cornell does not help. Unless they have put down a new field, I believe it is that out-dated Astro-like turf. I hate that we have to play a game on that stuff....
4. I have to disagree with you here Dane 96.... While Bocanegra obviously played poorly, I think our receivers as a unit are sub par and do very little to help or make our quarterbacks look good. We have no go-to guy. Someone who will go up and get the ball and make a catch in traffic. A reliable, hard-nosed, tough receiver that will extend his arms and hold onto the ball after contact. Jason Smith may some day be this kind of receiver, but he is not one now. Gallucci and DeArayo certainly are not. Nor is our tight end. Wall is a #3-like receiver, but dropped a ball he should have caught. Josh Furnace has good hands but we don't seem to throw his way too often. My suggestion (but not my idea) is to throw the ball to the guy with the best hands on the team, has great speed and strength and the player most likely to get the most YAC's.......................MARCUS ALLEN!! Put him in the slot or split out. The coaching staff seems to love Simmons in the backfield, so move Allen to receiver and get him the ball in the open field!!!!! JMHO PS Wish we had another Barksdale that we could move to receiver!
5. Hall would be starting but has "personal issues". Whatever the hell that means. Nice pass Bocanegra.... 15940 It is a five letter word and it starts with d and ends with s.....
6. His name is Brett Hall from Lake Forest, Illinois. On the Tenn.-Martin roster, he was listed at 6'4" 218 lbs. I believe he was on the Lackawanna Junior College football team last year.
7. I heard that this game may not take place. Does anyone have any information about whether this is true or not? If it is true, has Albany rescheduled an opening day opponent?
8. There are some interesting things being said on the anygivensaturday message boards about the NEC and mid-major football in general. Just wanted to give everybody here a chance to chime in, if they so wish.
9. I could not agree with you more.... he was a joy to watch and we all look forward to his return next season.
10. Unfortunately, I am told that Mike sustained a broken collar bone at the Lehigh game. It was on a hit he took after another one of his fine catch and runs. It is likely a season ending injury. As a fan, you had to love the way he made plays. He sparkled on offense and caught nearly every ball thrown his way.... he will be sorely missed.
