  1. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writ...gles/index.html I couldn't hear what Calhoun said at first but from this article it sounds like he gave credit where credit was due. Still hate the guy though. Did anyone notice how UConn's bench was standing up on the sidelines the whole second half. I'm not sure but I thought that wasn't allowed.
  2. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writ...gles/index.html When did Coack Brown change his last name to Allen? (check the picture on the right)
  3. You got to think that a lot of schools after seeing our performance are going to come knocking on Coach Brown's door seeing he is without a contract right now. I think McElroy made a huge mistake by letting him enter this year without an extension. The only thing that will save him and our team is the fact that Coach Brown is a classy guy and likes where the program is heading. On a side note, I watched the game in Ohio last night and the entire bar was cheering for Albany. Granted they probably had no idea where Albany is but it was a great scene.
  4. I just hate it when I'm visiting the area and I open up the TU sports section and I sed Siena on the front page about some stupid news and the Albany game from the night before is on the 2nd or 3rd page. SHOW sienafan SOME RESPECT!
  5. After reading the article "You Think They Know the Danes" I wrote to Briant the following... Brian, After reading your article “You Think They Know the Danes” this morning online, you should have added a couple more people to the 10 students you gave the 20-question pop quiz to. I’m not talking about adding more students; I’m saying you should have given the quiz to some of your staff members at the Times Union. If you’re going to criticize and poke fun of the student bandwagon for the University at Albany Men’s Basketball team, perhaps you should do the same to yourself and your paper. Of course an area university who makes it to the NCAA Tournament for the first time deserves the attention it’s finally getting. However, this attention was longtime overdue. I guess the team and the university knows now that in order to get some respect from Mr. Brian Ettkin and the Times Union you need to win conference championships and make it to the Big Dance or you won’t get any. Hey…that seems like a bandwagon to me! Go Danes! He responded to me forty minutes later... Hey Chris, Thanks for your thoughts and opinion, though I disagree with your assertion. In fact, I would argue the amount of coverage the Times Union accorded UAlbany until this run far outweighed our readers' interest in the team. It's the old chicken and the egg argument: Which comes first? But considering UAlbany's sparse attendance until season's end, I would argue that having a beat writer, Mark Singelais, who covered every home game and nearly every away game -- including at UCLA, San Diego State and at Florida -- and wrote as many stories on UAlbany as he did, if anything was coverage that exceeded our readers' interest in the subject. I would encourage you to review the number of UAlbany stories Mark wrote. Thanks for your feedback. Best, Brian Uh Duh! Of course the coverage this year was outstanding. When the team is picked to win the America East and has a non-conference schedule against a two seed, a three seed and an eleventh seed in this year’s NCAA Tourney you expect coverage. I’m asking where were the big stories about players, coaches etc. before this year? It’s just upsetting for me to be online (I have moved from the Captial Region) and see a Michel Haddix blog from the MAAC Tournament? Why not a Jamar Wilson blog? Why not inform our readers about one the best players in the country that no one has heard of?
  6. Congrats to UAlbany. So happy for everyone associated with the program. Wish I was there to enjoy it. Cant wait to find out where we will be going. Def. think we deserve to be a 14 or 15th seed.
  7. I would bet any amount of $$$ that a contract has already been negotiated and signed and they are simply waiting either from Board of Regents approval or simply for the end of the season to announce it. Can you say CHA CHING for Coach!!!! Both parties gambled and the house lost....but really won!! 12515[/snapback] I'm not sure if Cha Ching is really worth writing. The season we're having was expected of coach. Don't get me wrong he has done a great job with this program ever since taking over midway through the season a couple years ago. I just don't think the numbers will blow you away.
  8. That's awesome that the sponsors did that. Wish I was still a student there. On a side note, I was only able to make it to one game this seasone before I moved away and that was the disappointing loss against Sacred Heart. What have the student crowds been like?
  9. I will def. let you know if I get a response. Also, I know that the AA stands for football but I put that in there for the exact reason that Siena doesn't have football.
  10. I work for a MAC school and thats a typical price for student tickets. Just be happy that it's $10 and not $30 like other people have to pay. I mean just be happy you have to pay for a ticket and not watching the game on ESPN2 with two other teams playing.
  11. Yeah I'm sick of this Siean bias in the TU. Not like this will do anything but I wrote a letter to the editor this morning... I will admit I haven’t picked up a copy of the Times Union in 4 months. This isn’t due to my outrage that they continue to be overlooked by Siena College day in and day out, but mainly due to the fact that I live in Bowling Green, OH. As a Great Dane alum and former Capital Region resident for 23 years I’m tired of the constant bias that the TU puts on the shoulders of the college from Loudonville. Sure the Saints have had a great run in the Capital Region. From the looks of things with Fran McCaffrey at the helm of what looked to be a disheveled program, things will be fine for the Green and Gold. But move over Saints, there’s a new dog in town. It doesn’t help the Dane’s cause that the Saints play home in a 10,000 seat arena in downtown Albany. It definitely doesn’t help the cause that UAlbany is only finishing their seventh season at the Division I-AA level. And of course it doesn’t help that the Pepsi Arena and Siena College garner the revenue and popularity of hosting their conference tournament (and not just a single game) what seems to be every other year. For those of us who use the TU’s website to keep informed about local sports and news the favoritism exists here as well. Take the logo for the two teams in the college sports section. Last time I checked A came before S. Not the way you have it. And then there’s the blog of Michael Hadix during the conference tournament. Of course we’re all sorry for his misfortune last summer with his injury sidelining him this season. But why not have a blog from the America East tournament? Why not get inside the head of a local product that is one game away from being named America East Tournament MVP? (By the way his name is Lucious Jordan in case you didn’t know since he gets overlooked for players that aren’t even playing) With a win Saturday the TU will really need to begin rethinking the way they cover local sports and I’m sure you will. Unfortunately, you’ll just be another person waiting in line to get on the Great Danes bandwagon. Let’s Go Danes!
