When contacting the above mentioned persons and addressing the issue of UAlbany flagship status I suggest including the fact UAlbany is already ranked as a world class university, ranking 45th in the world in social sciences by Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2007. The Social sciences category include all our top rated programs with the exception of Nanotechnology. We have the followin programs rated in the top 25 in the nation: Criminal Justice - (US News 2006)#3 Africana Studies - (Black Issues in Higher Education July 2004) #4 Information Technology and Management - (US News 2006)

#5 Social Welfare - (Academic Analytics 2006)#6 Public Administration and Management - (US News 2006) #7 Educational Administration - (Academic Analytics 2006),#9 Public Finance and Budgeting - (US News 2006),#10 Public Policy - (US News 2005),#13 Educational and Counseling Psychology - (US News 2006) ,#15 Library Science - (US News 2006),#25 Public Policy Analysis - (US News 2006),#25 Sociology - (US News 2006) . Of course, mentioning Nanotechnology is ranked number in the worlid is obvious.

That UAlbany is are not comparable to the State University Colleges such as Plattsburgh is obvious. However, the governor is actually proposing the state of NY relegate UAlbany to the category of Potsdam , New Paltz, etc. by means of gradual defunding which would be the result of excluding UAlbany from Flagship status. UAlbany and Binghamton have enjoyed equal status with SUB, and UBuff since the current SUNY system was created 45 years ago. There is no logical reason for a governor to propose such a radical change in the SUNY system. Another possibly pertinent point is the fact that Albany is the state capital and state capital are almost always where flagship campuses are located. There is a logical reason for locating flagship campuses in the state capital : equal access to the state's population. Spitzer is attempting to ruin the SUNY system to secure votes from the Buffalo area. It doesn't serve the citizens of NY state to locate a flagship campus 400+ miles from the NYC Metropolitan area in a corner of the state which actually has been losing population since the early 1950's. I lived in Buffalo and it's a nice place in the summer, but IMHO it's drastic decline is impossible to stop. I'm not suggesting leaving UBuff out of flagship status but just pointing out UAlbany clearly must be included as a flagship campus.

IMO the current governor is starting to resemble a 2008 NY version of Huey Long.
