Jones Leaving....

I don't think he's running. The job he's getting is one of the top jobs in the country for those in public university admin.

We've talked about it with our coaches but the same will be true for our admins - including Benson. If they do a good job - it is likely they will be poached.

Him taking this top quality job will help recruiting the next president. We're becoming a viable stepping stone which at this level isn't bad thing.

I didn't mean to say he's running in a sense he's running from something...I'm just disappointing because he's done good thing for this school and now we have to go through what we've all seen to be a ridiculous process in trying to find his replacement after only 3 years sucks. I get it, it's a big step up but doesn't help us.

Good for him, kind of stinks for us. Hopefully it won't take them forever to find a new and better President.

After how long it took to replace Kermit, I won't hold my breath. Who wants to lead a public university in a state that treats public higher education like crap and turns the system into a political football?

Is it really a better job? chancellor of the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign or President of the State University of New York at Albany. Both are "flagships" of their respective University systems... Seems almost like a demotion to me, as I would rather be in NY than Illinois. I guess its possible that I am ignorant on their system though.

As a recent graduate, I'm happy. His handling of the bus incident was despicable and his ability to speak publicly, for someone of his position, was comical IMO. I won't miss him. Have fun in Illinois.

Per the T-U "He will earn total annual compensation of $649,000 for the three new positions, up from the $502,700 total compensation he earned in Albany." The three positions being President of UI, VP of the Ill. system, and tenured professor.

The UI position pays mid-pack in the Big 10.

Jones was an excellent president especially in regards to the law school, engineering school and other additions.

My main concern is athletics. He was pro athletics and pro football. I hope our luck doesn't run out and we get a nut job like Hofstra or BU got that was hostile to athletics.

I wish we could find stability.

First of all, it seems nobody sticks with a job, with the exception of coach Brown!

The 'additions' were nice during Jones' stay at the university, but I'm thinking there are people behind the scenes

that have a lot to do with it... maybe more than Jones.

As for the bus incident, don't know much about it... another incident of someone yelling 'racist' again?
