Anyone have any details on the new school of business building and the campus center?

I'd like to know:

Where do they plan on locating the business building?

Are there blueprints for its design laying around somewhere?

Please tell me it's going to be placed in the location of one of our mamouth parking lots, and not in the middle of Collin's Circle!

Is the campus center going to be a completely new building.. or is it a renovation of the present one?

If it's a completely new buidling, where is the new location?

Are there blueprints for its design laying around somewhere?

PLEASE ELIMINATE AS MUCH CEMENT AND CONCRETE AS POSSIBLE ON THE MAIN CAMPUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is all I can find on the business building. Like I said in another thread, Dean Leonard said the building will be located in that small parking lot directly across from the admissions building. Ha ha, your right, half the campus is taken up by parking lots. If New York State wasn't giving money to PRIVATE college St John Fischer to establish another law school maybe we could get a parking deck or something to free up some space? Anyway, here's the link to the business building.

I've got my MBA from that business school and I'm damn thankful for it but I still think we should be ADDING new colleges first and foremost. If we want wealthy donors/alumni, it doesn't help that we're missing so many professional schools: law, medicine, pharmacy or architecture. To me law is the most important because they're great lobbyists but now St John Fischer, Binghamton and Stony Brook are all getting law schools? God forbid the capitol city have a state law school.

Money for St John Fischer

As posted in the funding thread, the new School of Business building won't be in Collins Circle. It will be directly across from the new University Hall. Basically just north of the current Business Building on the Podium. I believe the 'plans' were up in the current business building..not sure if they still are. Haven't looked for the plans online yet..

ATL_DANE,

That second paragraph is one of the best statements I've read on here in awhile! I agree completely! I did not know about the St. John Fischer grant(?)/loan(?). That frosts my chickens.

I have great faith in the stadium project coming to fruition and I'll bet next year at this time we will all be very pleased. Hey - Alma Mater got it's first two priority projects funded in a very bad economic year. We should all be pleased.

I understand that the Campus Center renovation is in its very early stages and there won't be plans for many months w/ lots of consultation yet to occur. It will be a rather modest extension project, roughly twice the size of the visible part of the Food Court / Bookstore extension - not a new building. $ 30 million doesn't go that far ;) But I'm sure we all appreciate it!

GL to the Men's Lacrosse team in Maryland tonight!!!

I mocked up the admission entry diagram to show where the business building would be placed.

You can enlarge it by clicking on the image.

i wonder what the university is going to do about visitor parking. putting the building their will narrow visitor parking to the very small lot next to indian quad and a small strip all the way in the back of the dutch parking lot. Parking is already a major issue on campus.

What the? Why would they give money to St. John Fisher when Bing in CNY is also interested in a law school. That's clearly pork right there folks.

Here's a link to a story that describes Sen LaValle's strategy for creating Stony Brook Law. Apparently he's using strong arm tactics.

That's a good way to start and build the reputation of a law school - Walmart priceing strategy......Good move. (insert sarcasm)

Touro should be shut down-- the scandals a that school (including the undergrad--is that even around any more) are numerous.

Touro should be shut down, but if they did I'd bet dollars to donuts that LaValle would find some way to obtain their remains at a bargain basement price on SBU's behalf :( . Look at how SBU bought LIU's Southampton campus at a bargain price for example.

And so returns the bad memories of a short time working for State Ed...where critical thought is insubordinate.

Dear UAlbany Student:

I am pleased to share with you that UAlbany has received nearly $123

million in SUNY capital funding from this year's NYS budget process to

support several of our most important capital priorities. These

priorities include a Campus Center Expansion, a new School of Business

Building, and funding for campus revitalization and critical

maintenance.

I would particularly like to thank all of you for your support of our

initiatives in the weeks leading up to the final budget, especially your

willing response to participate in our campus community's "UAlbany Day"

at the state legislature. Without question, your advocacy for UAlbany

made an enormous difference in our success this year and I am most

grateful for your participation.

This funding would not have been possible but for the unwavering support

of our State leaders. Please join me in expressing our gratitude to

Governor Paterson, Senator Bruno, Speaker Silver, and the UAlbany

Legislative Delegation, especially Assembly Majority Leader Ron

Canestrari, for their leadership in championing the University at

Albany's agenda during the budget process.

Due to our combined efforts, a new 75,000 square-foot Campus Center

Expansion ($30 million) will go far to meet the needs of current and

future students by creating much needed meeting space and expanding

recreational areas. I look forward to working with you as we begin to

plan for this new facility.

In addition, the New School of Business Building ($54 million) will

provide a significant boost to the University's School of Business which

is one of the top public business schools in the northeastern United

States. The new state-of the-art, 90,000 square-foot building on the

uptown campus will significantly strengthen the school's undergraduate

and graduate educational and research mission.

The second phase of the Campus Revitalization Project ($5 million) will

continue to revitalize, beautify and enhance the campus' physical

infrastructure by improving pedestrian safety, implementing roadway

improvements, and rehabilitating the academic podium. We will also seek

the most efficient and sustainable use of land to return green space to

campus.

Finally, the first installment of a five-year commitment for Critical

Maintenance ($33.8 million) will enable the University to address the

substantial deferred maintenance that has accumulated over the years.

These much needed critical maintenance funds will begin to reverse the

"cycle of underinvestment" and bring into good repair essential

academic, research, and administrative space on campus.

As you can see, we have much to celebrate and much of this success is

due to our students, faculty and staff! Without question, your

advocacy for UAlbany made an enormous difference in our success this

year for which I am, again, most grateful.

This is an exiting time to be a Great Dane!

Sincerely,

George M. Philip

Interim President
