Game against Yale
jimbo replied to HOF2013's topic in Spring Sports-Baseball, Lacrosse, Softball, Track + Golf
Tuned in long enough to see them go from down 13-9 to 15-9. Speed and talent…no match at the moment. -
So what’s the strategy now for team building? Promising frosh performs above expectations…transfers to a higher level. Diamond in the rough needs seasoning, gets 5-10 min a game, wants more, transfers out. You probably get to keep the 5-8 mpg kids that know they’ve hit their level and just want to keep their scholly. The way things are at UA’s level is it worth it to spend time, money and effort to bag a promising freshman when you can get a senior or grad with a verifiable track record at the collegiate level? From the fan standpoint I have a real hard time developing any loyalty to the players if they’ll skip out so easily. It was so nice to see players develop and do their 4-5 years…not much any more. Helene and Kayla are exceptions. Believe me, I don’t begrudge a player transferring for a higher level opportunity, to be closer to home, to seek NIL possibilities, etc. It just sucks from a fan standpoint.

You’d have to assume it’s only D1 for that to be true, but I think it’s for all divisions, no? I Could be wrong on that.

Around the country hoops season 2023....

In my case, I’m a life long area resident and UA grad. I rooted for local teams. When at UA I joined the chorus and the team in green was a hated rival. But I never developed the lingering hatred and loathing many of you have. As the product of a mixed marriage (father a Yankee fan and mother’s family from eastern Mass) I became a Yankees fan, but never developed the hatred of all things Red Sox. And I was happy when they won the WS. Now NFL is another thing entirely. As a passionate Giants fan from early childhood, my heart burns with a hatred of anything Dallas, Philly and Washington. My wife tells me that this is unhealthy. Probably. When Union or RPI are doing well in hockey or football I’ll root for them too. -

I wish him luck and nothing but the best. It’s so much more fun when both area teams are doing well and the rivalry prospers. And quite honestly, before UA went D1 I’d always root for $iena to do well, despite the ancient rivalry! now…..how about turning around the train wreck at Broadview? -
Graveyard humor over the death of any vestige of the notion of amateur athletics and the tradition of student athlete and collegiate loyalty? The new normal is a me first free for all money grab that quite frankly stinks to high heaven and is causing some among us to reassess our willingness to support with our money something we’ve come to abhor. Or maybe we’re just a bunch of juveniles that like to shoot the 💩

I think if it was MBB they’d have a fit. He’s a fairly logical choice for WBB in my mind…so perhaps it will happen. I doubt they’d get all weepy if he produces a winner. -
