Guess I've been told.....so I'll tell VC that everything is hunky dory, their communication to fans is A1 and everyone is happy with owning now useless seats? Honestly, I could care less about getting any money for them. Just want to be able to use them and not have to be so uncomfortable at the game. I've never once complained about paying more money for stuff as I understand fully that we need to raise more to get a higher level product and I've contributed more as well. What I will not stand for is an athletic department that blindsides us with policy changes at game time. And I will not abide by having a comfortable seat taken away in a heavy handed and unneccesary policy change that was not communicated and poorly thought out. Why we should have a more restrictive setback policy than UB, SBU, ODU and the Green Bay Packers is beyond me. All to force people to pay $5/game for an uncomfortable seat? If that causes me to lose faith in an athletic department then I guess it's just me. So....to all of the posters, do we drop it and move on or continue?

I wouldn't be concerned with 99's opinion.

While I never bought a seat cushion , it still is an absurd policy that was implemented. While it might provide an illusion of security to some, banning seat cushions is not protecting against terrorists.

Personally having gone to most sports on campus from where they don't even sell concessions at baseball to the more and more restrictive policies at football games, I don't feel any less secure at baseball games where no one checks and people myself included bring food and drinks to the games

Edit: I've heard he has also brought up that the NFL has these rules, so it's okay that we do (said to tailgaters). However fellow SUNYs do not nor other CAA. Would like to know why we UA need NFL security level but other fellow schools don't. Seem like SUNY should do an across the board change if the suny police were really the impetus.

Yeah he mentioned this in our call. Basically, "if it's good for the NFL, it's good for us."

Eli, I have another email ready to go. If what you say is true and they won't budge on the seat issue, then my mind is made up. I will never give them another dime that does not have substantial value in return. I am disgusted with the athletic Department. No more university donation, no more athletic department donations. Please join me.

I get not blindly following orders and standing up for what you feel is right and doing what you think is best for your own pockets, but this whole "fiasco" seems to be out of hand and pretty petty - on both sides. Whiners complaining about not being able to use something that cost them under $20, and an athletic department that is trying anyway it can to get more revenue, ensure safety, and do what's right for the university and fans while following DHS recommendations in the way they interpret them.

There are plenty of things you can buy in an airport or in a movie theater that you cant bring into the place after you leave with it. Many people might want to buy a UAlbany logo'd stadium seat to show their UA support when they attend a high school or pop warner game.

The people on this site are the "superfans" and the ones that are supposed to care the most about helping the program grow. To grow it needs more $$. Most of these complaints seem like trolling to get your rocks off and not doing anything substantial to help the program grow. If you dislike the policy, that is fine and your choice. Voice your complaints. See if you can effect change. That is the American way. Just remember you get more flies with honey. Threatening to cut off all support because of a policy you disagree with wouldn't make me want to give in and change my policy though if I worked for the program. You don't give into terrorists. Find a constructive way to show that changing the policy would provide a better environment in the stadium or help get more revenue and you will win. Find out how many people wont go because of the policy and how many lost fans will happen because of it.

I am sure there are plenty of fans that would give you your $20 back out of pocket to not have to hear the whining. How many fans is this issue actually pissing off? 20? 30? I question if it is even that high.

Not sure I agree with that, sir. It's a matter of principle...how it was done and when it was done, instead of the fact that it was done (at least in my opinion). If we want to be a big time school and thus charge more money for things like this, we also need to be a big time school in terms of preparation, communication and implementation. The latter...well, me thinks some pop warner leagues communicate with their kids parents better.

Did I fly off the handle in my email and posts? Probably. I've since simmered down, but the entire policy is still stupid. I can understand *maybe* the bag policy to some extent; it's the world we live in. But the seat stuff? That is truly a fiasco. It shouldn't even be a 'thing'.

Furthermore, they aren't even comfortable! I had mine removed after one game. I'd rather sit on a cold bleecher and deal with some back pain than sit on that heap. I'd glady give them $100 for an uber comfortable seat...so it's not an issue of $20. Most of us on here are working professionals who make that in our sleep. The seats flatout suck, and supposedly the ones sold prior, are better...if I had something to compare it too I'd probably be mad I couldn't bring in my 'v1.0' seat too!

LOL - Sorry for my post. I was just venting at all of the bitching. The threat of "no more university or Athletic Donations" and "please join me" were what set me off.

I get that there was stupidly bad communication on it. It is also crazy that they were sold in the stadium, allowed to be used, then told no way. The bag policy is insane and worse than any other place I have been. I have voiced my displeasure on certain items with the school as well. That doesn't make me flip out and threaten the school over certain items.

Carry on. Make a big stink over something that was $20 and only a relatively small number of people have an issue with. Get worked up. Become a $iena fan. That is fine.

I just think everyone needs to get their priorities in check.

+10000. It annoys me to no end that we have WB with a five year extension and a ranked football team yet this is what is dominating this board. It's embarrassing and doesn't help the Smalbany reputation

Exactly. This DOESN'T help the 'smalbany' reputation. This kind of half-assed communication from the school and worse, implementation, is the exact reason why we will never be 'Bigalbany' (I tried, lackluster execution lol). It's something a tiny D3 school would do. We're better than that. WAY better than that.

It is a message board. Others are allowed to express their displeasure in ways they feel is appropriate. Not just you. Doesn't mean others priorities are out of check .

BTW, I never got the impression that $20 is the issue . Even with the lower gas prices, I probably still spend an average of $20 a week on gas and tolls just driving to Danes games. I certainly expect to be treated at least as good at home games than I am on the road. That means not being hassled with stupid policies for one thing

I hope anyone who thinks I may have gone too far with my comments understands my perspective. Unless you personally had to deal with the grief on opening day of the stadium and then again for the Holy Cross game and again with the godawful replacement seats, I don't think you'll understand. Or having to tell my friend that they may not be able to come to the games due to the seat policy and their bad back. Please send us your money as we make your game day experience maddening or uncomfortable. The bag policy may be inconvenient, but understandable and in no way causes me problems. The seat policy and the way it's been handled are something different. If you don't want to hear my "whining" then don't read this thread. It's clearly not for you 99. And if you think I'm being rough, try reading some forums for other teams. It's a wonder fans across the country don't March on the AD offices with torches and pitchforks.

I might note too that in my last email to the AD's office I gave praise for all that they are doing right, such as parking pattern, on field product, GDAC hospitality, etc. so it's not all bad.

Double that +10000.

I have a solution to those who have lost focus, with the understanding that they are right that the school screwed up.

Let's stop donations, drop down to DIII, and go to football games against Alfred State. I think it would be wonderful to hear the stands dominated by the random cowbell or three on a first down.

Eli...no doubt you (and others are correct) that this was a foul-up of pretty large proportions.

But it is over.

As a former season ticket holder for St. John's, Maryland, Florida State, Miami, and Boston College...believe me,each of those schools had some sort of Season Ticket holder or stadium snafu's. "BIG TIME" schools are just as exposed to these mistakes as "SmAlbany" (the perception you and many have over a seat snafu).

I go back to my earlier post a week or so ago: Big jumps = Growing pains.

Where were we 5 years ago...heck a YEAR AGO. The Adept has done more positive than negative.

See it from your side? I actually don't like Stadium seats in the first place so maybe that is my problem. I find them all uncomfortable and would rather be on the metal bench.

Do you have a physical handicap that you require one at the game for a health condition? If so, then you have a real argument as they need to accessible. Maybe you should cut your donations and buy a chairback seat instead?

Keep complaining, that is up to you. See if you can affect change and get what you want. The rambling does come off as petty though.

99, I can only guess from your handle that you are a much more recent grad....check back with me in your mid 60s. If wrong, I apologize. Your solution is to be forced to spend $800 for two chair backs? Honestly I don't want a chairback because the sight lines from the upper deck are way better. So I will continue to advocate for my (and others) cause. This is all SOOOOOOOO easy for the athletics department to solve. Meanwhile I will figure out a way to try and make the uncomfortable seats more comfy. Foam pipe insulation on the bottom back bar is a start. I don't see that in the prohibited list so maybe......

I am a more recent grad (class of 99) so maybe I don't know the pain of back issues at 40 than I would at 60. I'm just a supporter that doesn't like complaining loudly about minor issues (to 98% of the fans) that can cast a shadow over all the positives. I'd rather keep my complaints to private conversations with the staff (who have been more than approachable) instead of creating a public controversy.

Silent majority I guess.

Since it's been 4 days I think everyone has been missing our spirited discussion. Let me say first that I believe this forum to be a valuable place for us to share experiences and opinions, whether it's public or not I don't know. Social media is the name of the game now and we can criticize or discuss just as well as others can congratulate and promote. So having said that....

This morning was our coffee with VC. Pleasant conversation overall. Basic take aways: Nothing is going to be done to change the stadium seat ban for 2016. Fans will have a chance to speak their minds using the survey we should all be getting. My opinion is that they don't want to change anything at this point as they've already had 2 changes in policy and a third would not look good. It is what it is. So if you want the policy changed, keep your powder dry until survey time. I asked for a copy of the banned items from Day 1 of stadium opening...said he would get it to me. The new policies regarding stadium seats and bag check will likely be applied to any sports venue on campus where attendance regularly exceeds a certain number and definitely for Casey. It sounds like it's a change in progress, but it sounded like SEFCU will be subject to the more restrictive bag check. The Casey bag check was dropped on the AD by UPD and he said it was based a non specific area threat. Nothing more than that. One of my prophecies sounds like it will be coming true as he said they are working on clear tote bags to sell at the stadium (told ya). I didn't ask if they would be of the perforated variety. Generally talked about trying to get SEFCU better set up for hospitality and the need for an indoor practice facility. There was more but I won't bore you any further. Uncommon Grounds was busy, but my cafe au lait was tasty. Better half's very berry muffin was yummy.

Not entirely satisfied, but nothing will change this year, might as well make the best of it for the rest of the season and enjoy the games. They'll have a chance to win me back and I'll take it from there. Go Danes!
