[FB] Game 5 - @ Elon - 9/30 - 2PM

Recommended Posts

Brunson did not have a great game. However, when they put him in position to do well early on, he was fine. He was 5-9 in the first half. Why only 9 attempts? Why make him throw deep outs...that's not his game.

More importantly, I think something is wrong with Brunson...physically. I know that he had elbow or shoulder problems in the past (I can't remember...I think it was the elbow). Today, as the game progressed...he had ZERO zip on the ball...even the short passes. Last week he was tossing some ropes. On almost every INT or near INT today...the ball was thrown soft or floated. He had nothing on the ball.

At the end, he was clearly grabbing the right arm (elbow area) and that's why Sussman came out.

I think he's got an injury...

Very possible but he was also throwing off his back foot most of the time with the OL being pushed back into him. Tough to get a lot on the ball when you can't step into the throw.

He actually didn't have much time at all. Their D-line abused our O-Line. Badly. They play an odd, yet athletic, 3-3-5. Their big NG Cox abused our interior line all day long. I counted at least 11 hurries on top of the sacks.

so THAT was our problem! 12 guys on defense aw..you changed it. I was still looking at 3-3-6. Edited by jimbo

Agree, their D-line was dominating. Gave Brunson little time, hurried the entire game. Why in the world did we not call short passing plays and not long throws to the sidelines. Totally predictable once again giving their D all the ammunition against us. Brunson did have quite a few overthrows which I'm hoping it's not because of poor performance but possibly a result of the injury. Wonder just how of an impact not having the two receivers on the field today had. One thing for sure the offensive play-calling sucks $iena.

LOL.

We did get hurt with a 12 man penalty, however.

This game was a colossal cluster-XXXX

So vanilla.... really need to take a hard look at the man calling these plays...

Sussman in, of course they blitz and crush him. EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT YOU ARE DOING WHEN SUSSMAN ENTERS THE GAME!

Same old crap on offense. Play calling again. TERRIBLE!!!!

That was a penalty for throwing the QB to the ground. Not that it matters.

would have only postponed the inevitable. What godawful offensive showing. Bernard has got to go got to go got to go. Anybody listening out there?

We need an offensive coordinator.

You start sending a message by firing the OC mid season.. Guy sucks. But the reality is he is Gattusos boy... Only way you get rid of him is Gattuso goes.

When they miss the playoffs again... At 7 wins, Gattuso can cry on Bernard's shoulder. BFF's for life...

Was at a wedding so couldn't vent with ya'll live but just finished watching the game. I see nothing has changed on offense. Today's offensive performance was...offensive.

Well, the live stream is flawless!

Wish we could use that platform more often!

Yeah, that Cox kid ate our line alive. Massive kid and a freshmen. WOW. Where do we get one of THOSE!?

Here is Sussman's stats rushing so far...it's pretty obvious to see the trend. Teams KNOW what he's going to do.

Change it up, have him THROW out of the play action...maybe some quick hitters, don't have him sitting in the pocket long looking for the home run play. Run his plays on 1st and 10, not 3rd and 1 (obvious running down). Not rocket science.

		Attempts	Yards Average
Game 1 4 14 3.50
Game 2 11 48 4.36
Game 3 7 24 3.43
Game 4 4 5 1.25
Game 5 3 -4 -1.33

The O Line finally looked like a mostly new line. The play calling was abysmal. The execution was either bad or constantly disrupted. When a defense holds a powerful team like Elon to TWO FIELD GOALS and your offense can't muster so much as a serious threat to end zone until the final seconds of the game, that has to be demoralizing for the team. We need a legit OC as soon as possible.

Making excuses for Brunson guys - he was not hurried the entire game - much of that was of his own making. He was terrible, even when he did have time. Overthrew almost every pass with guys wide open. Even some catches were guys going up to catch it. THAT has nothing to do with getting rushed and sacked. If he had completed some of those they would not have kept rushing so many. Most of the sacks came with more than 3 rushers. Complete some passes and that opens things up, for the rush and in the passing game. You are correct about throwing deep instead of 10 yard passes, he did seem to hit the short ones better. Something has to be done. I am just not sure even he is the QB we need.

If that's the case than we don't have a QB on the roster that we need. That's a problem (if true) both short term and long term.

It's been a 4yr problem.

I realize Gattuso is a ground and pound coach (reference in the halftime CAA show they air yesterday) and that probably doesn't look for a flashy QB who can chuck it down field with accuracy 20 times a game cause we're more of a running team...but even our 'game managers' are 'eh' or worse.

The only game I've seen this year is the nova game. Due to other commitments, I missed the home opener & have not been able to watch much if any of the streamed games. So perhaps I am not the best person to comment, but so far I have NOT seen this O improvement some have mentioned. Even in the nova game, the O was not overly impressive in my opinion. But, I think a very telling stat is that we scored zero points against a team that had been giving up +30 points per game. Likewise, we only allowed two chip shot field goals to a team that had been scoring @ a +35 clip. Same old story: Awesome D--NO O [my 2¢.]
