The school has posted some interesting things on Facebook that the new 2019 class have been going through when they arrive.

New this year is a Convocation, where all the freshman get together and the school (On Saturday, August 22, to welcome the Class of 2019, the University will host Opening Convocation, a new tradition marking the official start of the academic year.

Designed to celebrate a student’s entry into higher education, the event will be held from 4 – 5 p.m. in the SEFCU Arena. It is open to incoming freshmen, their families and the UAlbany family) http://www.albany.edu/news/61534.php?WT.source=home&WT.svl=headline and some pictures https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10153722979794734.1073741954.9199309733&type=3

Another thing, which people on this board may like is they started a "Great Dane Game Day Preview" . They had the students come down to Bob Ford Field to introduce them to the football team, had food, games etc. Here are some pictures: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10153720524179734.1073741953.9199309733&type=3

You don't need a Facebook account to view photos, but I'd suggest for all of those who have been waiting for the school to get students on board to look through these pictures. It really shows advancement by the school in focusing on school pride.

Hopefully we'll start to see it's affect this year if not next year. I'm glad to see Pres Jones and the new staff taking the bull by the horn and changing things up.

Really awesome stuff, thanks for posting this. I love how they are weaving sports and sports venues into the events.

New US News ranking out today and we're stuck at #129. Solidly the distant fourth SUNY Univ center with Binghamton and SBU at #89 and Buffalo at #99. (Even those numbers are lame considering how high all the UC schools are ranked.)

Hoping the additions of a law affiliation and a new engineering program will help. Anyone else see any signs of momentum? These ranking rely on a strong alumni giving rate, so I wonder if that's dragging us.

We need to take over that law school is what we need to do. We don't need some abstract affiliation.

CONVOCATION is not new. As a Freshmen in 1957 we had required convocation for Freshmen every Friday at 1 pm where President Collins would introduce a guest speaker like Eleanor Roosevelt. It was always enlightening and exciting.

Just curious...what types of 'things' do ya'll do back in the day? Not trying to be a wise ass, but I'm 28 (born in '87). Interesting to hear how ya'll got down back in the 50's when it came to life on campus.
