Reid Anderson- Transferring

Recommended Posts

I think some of us expected this. I wish the kid the best...seemed like a class act. He just go REALLY unlucky with the injuries and frankly, with a bunch of guys in his spot and 2 years behind in development, the writing was on the wall.

Feel really bad for a kid like this: nice kid, tried hard, liked by many, he liked the school and the program. Unfortunately, injuries can derail you.

GOOD LUCK IN THE FUTURE REID!!!

I'm gonna just throw this out there....I'm kind of bothered (maybe bothered is to harsh a word) that 5 players have left in two years. Anyone else feel this way? I always support UA, our coaching staff and the athletic program but something is amiss when 5 players more then 1/3 of the roster turns over prematurely.

I want to be clear....this is just my opinion and I'm sure some won't like what I'm insinuating, but thats how I feel. I appreciate everything coach Brown has done and is doing for this program but I think it's a fair thought to ponder.

I don't know the particulars of Reid leaving but I'm really sorry to see him go. He looked like a kid who was willing to do just about anything for the team (again could be partially informed). He worked hard....I remember in his freshmen season when he was getting early playing time how Coach Brown applauded him for his effort etc.

No...not bothered at all. Welcome to DI athletics.

1. Ross- something bigger than meets the eye. So many rumors out there. Do not care to speculate.

2. Yocum- So-so DII career. Would barely play much for us with the kids we got.

3. Knight- wasnt going to play much.

4. Anderson- Injury prone. Nice kid...but not going to play. Who is to say if he would ever be able to play.

5. Moores- wasnt going to play.

The only "sketchy" transfer is Ross. I will leave his departure to the staff and he. No reason to speculate. This isnt like top players were leaving, or even a 7th man, because of issues.

This is about kids get four years to play-- some just want to be part of a DI team and can deal with the bench. Some are not good with this and want PT and leave. Some are injury prone.

Welocme to DI (or even DII) athletics. You make it sound like Will ran them out of town with the question. Again, Ross was the only one whose "SCHOLARSHIP" was not renewed. Kids leave school ALL the time.

Heck, look at Jack McClinton and Kojo Mensah. People leave for a variety of reasons.

I used to get slightly upset when it was near the end of the player's time at the University and it meant that they would have to finish their degree elsewhere.

Now I have personally come to grips with the fact that NCAA sports are essentially a business (and a classic argument for a monopoly could be entered here), and a strong leader will do what he or she feels is best for the success of the program.

My concerns are more with how members of the current roster feel about losing a friend and teammate.

D96,

I'm finding it hard to straddle the line without being to critical.....but why did we recruit them if they were marginal D1 talent? I understand Reid was hurt....God knows what happened with Ross but what about the others?

Again, I want to make it clear that I support coach Brown and the program almost unconditionally but I'm worried about a pattern developing. Perhaps my fears are unfounded but.....

3 last year, 2 this year, are we overestimating the incoming talent? Are we promising something we can't deliver (playing time)?

EDIT: It's different when players leave because of change at the top. I can understand that. I concede that my fears as a somewhat unseasoned fan might be showing but there is more to college athletics then just the sport. They have to uproot their life, major change switching places to live, eduction and future livelihood is at stake etc. I guess I would feel more comfortable if I knew the decision was theirs to leave and that they hold no grudge.

I will answer simply: We recruited them because they are DI talent...but there are 10 better guys on our team right now. Not everyone is going to play.

$iena...its the reason I didnt go try and play DI baseball (my best sport). I could have rode the pine at schools that were recruiting me...or I could enjoy the college life. I chose wisely.

You're spending too much time listening to $iena posters.

My opinions have nothing to do with Siena posters.......I think for myself, I think my body of work speaks for itself. I'm probably wrong as often as I'm right if not worse but FWIW, I try not to march to the beat of anyones drum.

These kids see who's coming in and realize they might be getting recruited over, which the staff is always going to try to do, no matter who you are. This is happening all around the country, so It doesn't upset me at all.
