OT: Rutgers vs Buffalo tonight on MSG

Recommended Posts

NEC and SEC Football...LSU and Miss St is my game tonight, even if I know LSU is going to destroy them.

side note - The Rutgers game is on MSG...i expect the game to be over 5-10 minutes into the second quarter.

GreatDane,

It's already over, Rutgers is running all OVER Buffalo and the first quarter just came to an end.

If UA played Buffalo who'd win? I know they play at a different level.

I think we'd pull off the so-called upset even though Albany is probably better than Buffalo in most sports even with the FCS/FBS difference between the two.

Has Albany ever played against Buffalo in ANYTHING. Geographical differences aside, Buffalo should at least do some things against their SUNY sisters.

Albany football is 7-4 vs. Buffalo (last played 1988). Men's basketball 9-21 thru 1990. So not much if any since UB went Division I.

Women's basketball is 1-3 (2000).

You really don't seem to be happy with a lot of the stuff that they University/Athletics does or doesn't do, huh? Just thinking off the top of my head, I know our Volleyball team played UB (I believe in their tournament) within the past year or two. Not sure about some of our other teams, but men's basketball is really just the one that stands out as one that we haven't competed against. I do know that the Athletics Depts do at least realize the attractiveness of such a match-up..we'll see if that leads to any game in the near future.

I had meant in the Division I era, however by Division III standards it doesn't look good. Of course, nowadays we'd probably kill them in most sports...

When you said 'ever' I thought you meant, like, 'ever'.

Buffalo may have been D-II on the way up at the end of the 80's. In fact some of the basketball games may have been when UB was a 'major' college into the 1960s.

If my memory serves me correctly, UB had a 14-0 or 15-0 lead against UA in men's basketball until around 1971 or so. UA was Division III, and UB was D I. We finally beat them in the early 70's, and then UA went on a 25-0 home winning streak. We beat nationally-ranked teams like Potsdam and Brockport at home in 1973. The home-winning streak came to an end when we played in our next game . . . yes, you guessed it, the Bulls of Buffalo.

That is how UB created such a discrepancy in men's basketball vs UA.

If you mean Buffalo, I do think it's interesting that in the "big" sports they seem "above" the other SUNY's even though at this point I think that the FCS teams at UA and Stony would probably beat the FBS team at Buffalo.

If you mean Albany, when was the last time Buffalo was in any playoff? When will Buffalo be playing Duke? :)
