#104884 Women's Basketball 2017-18

Posted by sarge965 on 30 December 2017 - 07:22 PM

The women have played some great basketball out of conference. The only game they werent really in at the end was Maryland ( first game of season ). Could have beaten St Johns. If they continue playing as well as they can it should be another trip to the big dance. The frosh are excellent.

#102716 [FB] Game 8 - vs Rhode Island - 10/28 - 1PM

Atrocious. I stayed until the middle of the 4th when it looked like they were mounting a mini-comeback until those two huge drops and then the TD to seal the win.

You stayed long enough to make an appearance on the BIG SCREEN

#102713 10/28 MBB Exhibition Hurricane Relief (UA @ WV)

Posted by sarge965 on 29 October 2017 - 09:57 AM

At first I was extremely disappointed by how much we lost by. I know I may have rose colored glasses on but I am expecting this team to be very very good . However an exhibition loss like this may drive home coach Brown's message and really make the players focus on what they need to do.

Only time will tell.

I think you need to look at the competition not just our team.  WVU voted 2nd behind Kansas in the Big 12 preseason poll.  They are 10th in the USA Today Coaches preseason poll.  They play a tenacious press that will be better than ANY we see in the regular season.  Be concerned about the fouls picked up by Nichols and Clark, not the margin of defeat.  WVU should be competing for a national championship we have no shot at that.

Extraordinarily sad that you can watch the CAA Football weekly rewind video and not see a thing about UA vs Morgan State........

Not if there is no video to show

#99566 Recruiting - 2017

Posted by sarge965 on 14 April 2017 - 05:44 PM

The chance to add a proven guard to the mix of what we have coming back would be amazing. We didn't have that much depth at the back court last year so Maitland could really make for something special.

The other nice part about Maitland, he's already got a win again Siena (last year's CBI)

I wasn't complaining. I never got the complaints from people on other sites about "recruiting over" existing players. I'm just curious how it will shake out.

Will coach Brown allow himself to go 10 or 11 deep in the rotation?

1. Maitland (jr)(offer), Healey(fr), Anderson(sr), [Nichols]
2. Nichols (jr), Cochran(so), [Cremo]
3. Cremo(jr), Campbell(jr), [Cochran]
4. Charles(sr), Lands(sr), Lulka(fr), Garcia(sr) [Stire]
5. Stire(sr), Hank(fr)

The above assumes Andrews and Grayson are leaving but that's still all guesstimates and rumors. There are also rumors about 2 of the bigs leaving.

I keep going back and forth on what the team needs to beat Vermont next season, and I don't think it's much. If the rumors are true, then the team needs another big.

Maitland got a year of eligibility back after the fiasco at Morehead St.  He will be a sophomore next season.

Nice win on the road.  Actually good that they had a close game.  Many have been blowouts against weak opponents and Coach Marr can use this game to let the guys know they can improve.  I have watched most games this season.  JD was a bit off in first half but came back strong in 2nd.  Where was TD a few years ago when the Thompsons were here (in diapers, lol).  We may have a national title with him at the X back then.  Harvard also showed how to stop Fields.  On to the Brook!

2014 game against Notre Dame, 5 goal lead with about 10 to go and they lost pretty much every face off the rest of the game...and lost in OT. I was at that game and it was so hard to watch the Thompsons stand around towards the end because they couldn't get posession. Though they did have the last shot in reg from cousin Ty and it glanced off the goalies helment. Yes, I'm still bitter if you can't tell, but wholeheartedly agree about how face offs could have put that team over the top. Oh well.

At Hofstra - I was there too - still get that sick feeling in my stomach thinking about that one

Here is an interesting article about the NCAA women's basketball tournament and possible host schools that are in the state of North Carolina.  This may influence the seeding for the UA women.  It appears that Duke will be a 3 seed which would have set up a rematch of the 2015 first round nail-biter by making UA a 14 seed.  Will the state travel ban put us in a first round game at 2 seed Maryland as a 15 seed.

So - I almost had it right but Maryland was the 3 and Duke was the 2, so instead of moving us up to a 14 the committee drops a big pile of $iena on us and sends us to Storrs.  This will be an experience not a basketball game.  We've already been there done that.

#98525 @ Vermont - AE Tourney 2017 Championship - 3/11 - 11AM on ESPN2

Btw, $iena choked in their final. They are going to suck next year..... and maybe without patsos. He'll be lucky to keep his job.

Everyone graduates. Strong rumor that nico may leave... If he does they will he fighting Maine or Hartford for rpi.

Brutal recruiting by patsos. Nothing in the cupboard.

Back to Vermont - let the $iena fans sort it out on their board

Great time today at a real basketball tournament. Sat with Mari Warner for the UA game. The team is looking pretty damn good right now.

I say go back to a one site tournament.  Since the first year we were in, I took vacation time to travel to the turnament and attended all the games.  Had a great time every year even though the first few were very lean for UA.  Will be in Portland this weekend to see the AE women play.
