  1. Well the two reasons we couldn't play man are gone so maybe we'll get back to the D which was our identity when we were good. I have a feeling a lot of minutes will be won by those who prove they will defend. Just give Guerrier 32 min a night at the 3 (not the 4) and you'll get a 2nd or 3rd team all conf performance
  2. If true mark down North Florida on next year's schedule or at the very least the following year's.
  3. AMHERST - After Saturday night's closed scrimmage against Albany, University of Massachusetts men's basketball coach Travis Ford said his team has plenty of work to do to get ready for the regular season. NCAA rules prohibit the score and statistics from being kept in preseason closed scrimmages, but Ford said his team did not play well. The Minutemen were without both junior wing Etienne Brower, who was out with an ankle sprain, and senior big man Rashaun Freeman, who is sidelined with a hip injury. Ford used Chris Lowe, who is suspended for the team's exhibition game and season opener, sparingly. Ford said he hopes to have Freeman back practicing in the next few days and Brower sometime next week. ''We didn't play that well,'' Ford said. ''We found more weaknesses than strengths. We had a hard time keeping their point guard (Jamar Wilson) in front of us and we didn't play one-on-one defense very well. A lot of guys struggled from the field. Gary Forbes didn't shoot very well, really nobody shot the ball well. They thought it was going to come easy and it didn't. Hopefully this will be a wake-up call for some guys.'' Ford said Stephane Lasme was a bright spot and singled out Dante Milligan for praise. ''Dante played a lot more with Rashaun out and really made good use of his minutes,'' said Ford, who continued to experiment with different combinations. ''Stephane blocked a lot of shots. We're not allowed to keep stats, but he was our leading scorer I'm sure.'' Unlike last year where Ford did a full scouting report and normal game preparation for the team's closed scrimmage against Seton Hall, he approached this one differently. ''I wanted guys to go out there and try to figure things out for themselves without any preparation,'' Ford said. ''I wanted them to play by doing our thing.'' The Minutemen host Division II Bridgeport at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Mullins Center before opening the regular season at home against Dartmouth at 5 p.m. Nov. 11.
  4. nice...subtle...are you sure you didn't want to get right to the point instead of beating around the bush?
  5. I’m sorry I missed the scrimmage. It’s great to be talking about play on the court again. With that said here are a few things to ponder. I’m not sure if I agree with my statements below but the questions are worth asking. From what I heard the gold team was made up of Jamar, Brent, Lillis, Yocum and Knight, coached by Associate Head Coach Eaton. With Ross injured, would this have been Coach Brown’s starting 5 if the season started on today? If you want to argue against this, what was coach’s logic when choosing the teams? If the above is true is Siggers primed to be our 6-man? He’d be the best #6 in the league and from what I hear he is incredibly unselfish. Sounds like a good fit on a very deep team. Many on the board think it is written in stone that Lillis is the starting point guard. Why then would he play the wing during the entire scrimmage? Could we see him settle in as a #3? To support my Lillis at the 3 theory I think coach Brown realizes that if Jamar is going to play pro, he will play pro as a point guard. With this being true coach will play Jamar at point for significant minutes (I can hear Billy Packard during the UCONN games saying “they are a much better team when Wilson has the ball in his hands”). To support my Lillis at the 3 theory even more here is a list of point guards on this team Jamar, (won ROY as a #1, won POY as a #1-2) Iati (won ROY as a #1), Knight (at the level we want to play he’s a #1 not a #2), Lance James (#1), Bauman (#1), Lillis (#1?) As for Yocum in the “starting 5” that spot should go to whoever can defend that position the best. Why not Yocum? Especially this early
  6. I came across this and was wondering what others thought. Pay no attention to the headline writer not being clear that Haddix plays for Siena. http://www.capitalnews9.com/shared/video/v...?destlist=94020 On the surface these two are the team leaders. Jamar currently holds "star" status after last year...I hope he realizes we don't need more from him other than focusing on making the guys around him better. As for Haddix, he will need to fit into a new system under a new coach. Although just as valuable on the court as Jamar he may be in a more difficult position lead. I'm inviting comments from Siena fans here.
  7. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/men...id-majors_x.htm I am fine with this. We need some quality wins first.
  8. I hope you all know I am kidding I need to remember to add the old to my posts.
  9. it's been a month, how about updating your website. Have you been busy or something?
  10. In the spirit of random thoughts who do you think will emerge as team leader in 06/07? IMO Levi was the clear leader the past two years. I think of him on the floor pushing others in late 04/05 and early 05/06 as the team learned how to win… in late 05/06 I picture him greeting each starter as the pre-game line-ups were announced.
  11. Looking at CHN's top 144 and the conference winners listed below us, they have us as a 15th seed. ESPN has us in the play-in game. Either way a lot of work needs to be done to get back to the dance. The facts are that we need to win some quality OOC games before we can make any complaints about seeding. Actually the whole conference needs to step up to help who ever will be representing the AE. As for the philly writer and the ESPN write-up I was a bit disappointed. It felt like a bad imitation of a summer session write-up. Maybe that’s just because as an AE fan I didn’t learn anything (although I liked the stat on team scoring averages). The Bing Stony Brook thing was a bit all over the place. At least they didn’t have an intern do the write up as the did for the Southland.
  12. 13. The Iowa connection have to be smiling after seeing the Hawkeyes listed at 94… presuming UA is still to come. When coach recruited them do you think he tried to convince them that a preseason poll would eventually have Albany listed above Iowa? I hope either Iowa, ISU or UNI are scheduled for their senior year. A reward more for their parents who drive out for UA home games. Coach should also list UNI as a possible bracketbuster opponent. I think brackbuster participants get to list a few schools that they would like to play
