Yes except there are fewer posts each week. The apathy from the fan base is more deadly than the outrage.

I am disgusted with myself for buying season tickets. I really thought they might be decent this year. What a waste of (lots of) money. Never again.

Glad to see the late-arriving student turnout but it might have been curiosity that won't continue if the team does not improve. BTW was that the worst flyover in the history of aviation.

Comments on this thread are right on. No discipline and entirely predictable. To reiterate: bad penalties, atrocious special teams including fundamentals, running the ball between tackles too much and with just one back being used. After 8 years that is enough of this same old same old.

Two of the worst defensive plays I have ever seen. Maine fumbles near the goal line and number 0 tries (unsuccessfully) to scoop it up. Every kid from Pop Warner age is taught to just fall on the ball and cover it up. Then on the Maine touchdown Albany jumps offside and the their defense acts as if it were motion and stops playing. Easy TD pass.

Danes vs UNC
APA73 replied to AlbanyFan2018's topic in Spring Sports-Baseball, Lacrosse, Softball, Track + Golf
Reaction to this this seems as split as the halftime efforts. I agree that the face-off problem was not TD but the others joining the scrum - but moreover Albany could not clear the ball in many ways. Intercepted passes, lax (not LAX) passing and an overall poor performance in the second half. It seems as if upcoming opponents now have a blueprint on how to beat Albany. Certainly shakes my confidence. -
MBB & Coaches Cure CF Fundraiser (next 3 home games)
APA73 replied to MRSGDG's topic in Winter Sports-Danes Hoops, Track
Went to the Maine game and must say that the CF auction and fundraiser was the highlight. Why is it that even the wins have become almost too painful to watch? The Jekyll and Hyde performances are old and and far too predictable. Not fun. -
vs CCSU

Back to the BoFo for round two. Hope the dismal first week performance doesn't hurt attendance too much. The posts on this website noted most of the logistical flaws for the opening of the stadium (the kicker smashing the scoreboard, lax security in the parking lot etc.) but on balance almost everything went pretty smoothly. The venue was breathtaking. The parasailing beginning was cool. The beer garden was a welcome sight. The crowd was a terrific surprise. Even the weather cooperated. Some of the posts mentioned the potential of food, merchandise and other revenues for the program. These could all use an upgrade to maximize the take. Lines are too long at the concession stands (and non-stop unlike before when they were only crowded at half time). More and better food with more help and a streamlined cash out. If necessary, the merchandise booths should be moved elsewhere to provide more room for food expansion - or maybe even more remote locations. Nevertheless it was nice to whet our taste buds as to what big time college football is like. -
Football Gear?

Also I saw many people wearing straw hats like Bob Ford wears but I can't find any on the websites or under any apparel listings at all. We should have these available -
Alpha Pi Alpha
APA73 replied to Dane Pound's topic in Spring Sports-Baseball, Lacrosse, Softball, Track + Golf
Thank you again. The photo of the 1969 team is a classic. This is the team that has been more successful in NCAA tournament play than any Albany cagers to date. We continue to hope that the new era of Great Dane basketball does it at the D1 level. By the way, the members of Alpha Pi Alpha in that photo include Rich "Bambi" Margison, Ed "Hulk" Arseneau, Les "Duck" Newmark and Jim Sandy. I believe that both Jack Adams and Jack Jordan were in Potter Club. -
Alpha Pi Alpha

Thank you, Dane Pound, for noting the link to the Alpha Pi Alpha website. This local fraternity is now defunct but it had a notable run at UAlbany from 1952 to 1979. The photograph is of Dave Welchons shooting. This is something he rarely did as a player. Other APA members of that team were Werner Kolln and Tim Minnehan. Other items of interest on that website include images on the History Page, including the entire 1969 NCAA Division III basketball program, the original 1977 TU article by Bill Heller and a copy of a ticket from that particular Siena game. The Trivia Page notes that the two most reknown APA hoopsters were Dick Crossett'64 and Rich Margison'69.
