  1. I don’t want to quote it or include it here as the author was not consulted or asked. However I do know the author to have been a strong supporter of the Danes. His statements are 100 percent on point….we all need to get a little militant and organized to rid UA of both Benson and Killngs…fight the fire with fire….hopefully this well crafted letter will not go unheeded….
  2. Yep! What has happened to this once pretty solid program is an epic fail by UA on many many levels and the business side of it may be the very least of it.
  3. I concur completely. It can’t be saId enough…Benson and Killings both need to be summarily dismissed. This needs to be fixed now…as a Syracuse undergrad alum I can tell you all about how a bad fire/hire decision absolutely wrecked a very good P5 football program for at least 20 years! I know many of you don’t want to go to the past but…their are a few WB alumni and past WB assistants out there that understand the UA hoops tradition and culture…and can get this ship righted in a hurry…Eric Eaton, John Iati and Brent Wilson come to mind and I am sure there are others. Killings flat out stinks as a coach….he should find another line of work cause this just ain’t happening for him; and Benson needs to return to his prior life hawking beverage pouring rights to college food services.
  4. Fardan Sanai -top VP for Development—his business is contributions….he needs to know your money is going away….don’t waste your time with the AD—GDAC folks….Sanai is the guy…
  5. Thank you Dane Pound….you ascribe to an important virtue…say little but when you do speak you say alot….my wife and I have been loyal contributors long before GDAC was a gleam in Benson’s eyes…I am carefully marshalling my words for an email I plan on sending Fardin Sinai tomorrow to tell him we are severing our financial relationship to UA. It quite simply comes down to this in my book—what would UA do if a poly sci professor got physical or otherwise attempted to intimidate a student? Would they say its a one-off and merely suspend the prof? I think i know the answer already. I can’t speak or suggest to others what they should or should not do but as for us—sadly we are done!
  6. So....let me get this straight...Benson basically hired a guy who was about to be fired and everything here is supposed to rainbows and unicorns??? With all due respect in my mind there is more here than simple optics...Killings seems like a nice young man but his presentation at the presser was basically prototypical cookie cutter for a new coach....bottom line based on my discussions....the “New mentality” of many many season ticket holders and long term donors involves keeping money in thier pockets....Killings will likely be here no more than 2 years...Benson’s gotta go!!
  7. Haven’t posted in many moons...long time donor...way before there was a GDAC....and I dont want and won’t exchange banter over the efficacy of this move...in sum this move disappoints and disgusts me..it is an affront to a fine academic institution and a coach who embodied its ideals. Unless Benson goes and/ or Brown is restored my contributions to UAlbany Athletics are over and I have urged colleaques and friends to do likewise. This action should not stand and can not be tolerated by any right thinking individuals. That’s it.
  8. As many pointed out the officiating on Sunday was pretty bad from our perspective...at least two highly questionable (and I am being generous!) offensive foul calls that wiped out UA hoops. Seems like for big AE games we typically see people like Hughes, Laubenstein, Faia and Adams calling the games....after watching these characters for 10 years I feel I can authoritatively say that Hughes and Laubenstein are absolutely horrid and to make matters worse both appear to be egotistical to boot!!! The only time I enjoyed seeing Hughes on the sidelines was when he totally screwed Duke in their game vs Lehigh a couple of years back in the NCAA first round....Faia seems to go with the wind in terms of who appears to be the lead official and if he's teamed with Hughes (like he was Sunday...) its usually a parade of bad calls, late calls and at times hallucinatory calls!! Since we saw Hughes and Faia in the semis I am hoping we are done with them but that raises the prospect of us drawing Laubenstein who I think is a shade poorer than Hughes....(if that's even possible!!)... If we are lucky we will get Bob Adams for the Championship game....he is generally the best of this group...(although he had a few weird calls in the UVM- UA game on 2/28)....but Adams has called the Champ game at least a couple of times and in those instances I don't recall the officiating being an issue. In any event I am hoping that no one from either team is talking about officiating at the end of the game because that means they've done a good job. The kids deserve nothing less!
  9. I am hopeful given Benson's background that marketing will be a focal point of his tenure because the potential fan base is very large when compared to Siena and ticket/concession prices at UA events are far more reasonable compared to an evening at the TU-C. Regarding TU reporting...I think its basically a result of lazy reporting...Wilkin could care less...and Singlelais strikes me as having anger issues with UA progam and fan base..a very strange malady for a sports writer...I don't think it has anything to do with Siena playing at the TU C...in fact its not going to surprise me terribly if Benson ultimately decides that we should play a game or two a year down there against higher tier opponents....unlike Siena--with their ridiculous insistence on playing consistently in front of 10000 empty seats I think a game or two a year where we fill the place would be good for everyone concerned, everyone that except Sien-er!
  10. I hope the Johnson performance vs Maine is a portend for him for rest of the season, we need more of that type of slashing to the hoop offense that's for certain. Did not get oppty to watch any of these 3 road games so my opines are based on what I heard and read...will leave dissection of coaching and strategy to others more knowledgeable...my concern however is, that year in year out we seem to have what to me seems like an overabundance of injury issues...and as far as I can tell few of these injuries result from in game action, so I wonder if there is an issue with either off season conditioning regimes or perhaps practices are a little too much on the physical side? I know the season's long and kids get banged up but over the years it just seems like year in year out guys come up hurting badly...the only upside I see in that is given Coach Brown's long term penchant for utilizing a short bench, some kids only get their chance if there are a lot injuries and Brown's hand gets forced...for example, I really don't think you'd have seen Jacob Iati get to be the game changer that he evolved into if it weren't for injuries that elevated his playing time.
  11. Happy to be back on the board and ecstatic over the whooping we put on Siena...2 in a row and 3 out of 4...and a couple of games that where a whistle or shot away from going UA's way between 06 and 09, do I detect a trend here, or at very least is it not fair to state that these programs are now at least at parity, and in fact from a performance and coaching continuity perspective is it not fair to say that UA is perhaps a notch better??? Loved how the Danes hung in and eventually our "BIG DOGS" took control...I was wondering about something though, did anyone else catch the wise-arss comment that the TU Center PA announcer made when the Rowley brothers substituted for each other midway in the first half???? It was something along the lines of "one Rowley for another" of something like that...at any rate at that point the C-N-uh!!! Indians were up by the 15 or 16 or so and sitting in the arena, hearing that comment it kind of struck me as an arrogant, dismissive thing for a PA announcer to say with the game in progress....from that point forward the Danes picked it up and whittled the lead down to 6 at the half...I am wondering if perhaps our guys heard that as well and took it as offensively as I did, or perhaps I am getting thin skinned as the years pass??? Anyways great way to start the season and this year's team looks to be as deep and as athletic as Will B has had in his tenure. GO DANES!!!!
  12. I concur with dslyank...I think that this is not a good decision for or by the youngster but we are not left bereft of talent either...while he was amazingly gifted, he also produced a great deal of turnovers and I do not honestly think, given the volume and nature of the to's that we'd have seen demonstrable improvement in his valuing of the basketball if he played another year...while we do lack a dominant guy down low the returnees are all strong and scoring is not gonna be a problem if Logan is back 100% as currently advertised.....so...sad to see Gerardo go and best wishes to him but Go Danes! and unless I miss my guess I think we'll be playing well into March next year despite this loss...
