vs UNH - 1/11 @ 7PM

Brown wasn't kidding when he said this is the worst defensive team he's ever had...it's not even close right now. UNH this year is average on defense but a horror show on offense. Last in conference..Problem is, I'd rather be worse on offense and rely on D to win. If UA offense isn't clicking on Wednesday they stand no chance, even a poor offensive team will be able to score enough against our horrid D, going the other way, if our offense isn't hot as a pistol, our defense won't do us any favors to keep us in the game.

It will be interesting to see where our head is on Wednesday. New Hampshire hasn't played in nearly a week and are probably as frustrated as we are. They were expecting a big year and after their home loss in the opener are also staring at 0-2.

The more I see us this year, the more I'm reminded of the 04-05 team (the first year we had a full roster and the year before the championship year.) It has a lot of talent but a young backcourt that struggles to close out games and doesn't hold focus for the full 40 minutes.

That was the year before I started following the team so no memory of that but honestly, I think that's our biggest hindrance right now so I agree. We're a guard oriented team and unfortunately, our main core of guards is super young all things considered. One is a JUCO and the other barely played last year. After calming down from last night, it makes sense to see us struggle at times...now if we had 4 seniors and were playing like this.........:P

As Click said, we could definitely use a Siggers/Sanders type of player though to sic on the best offensive player of the other team. We don't have that and it's showing in our defense.

You know best DP, and I haven't seen this year's team much. But from my recollection of 04-05 and reading the accounts this year, 04-05 had a lot of heart but were very raw and couldn't always close the deal on offense whereas this year's team wilts on defense and just doesn't seem to even want to be playing at times.

Guys like Jamar, Levi and Iati had hearts of lions while we're struggling to see the same thing in this year's so-called leaders. Am I off base and overly pessimistic here? In 2005, we knew the program was on the rise and was going to kick ass the next year. This team - not so sure they've got the heart.

Big things were expected from UNH, but from the AE board

Both Jacoby Armstrong and 6'2 SG Darryl Stewart (JUCO transfer from Tyler Junior College) are redshirting, as is 6'7 freshman Chris Lester. Armstrong was suspended 1st semester, and apparently a recent decision was made to redshirt him and bring him back for a 5th year. Stewart had an academic issue where one of his math courses from Tyler didn't transfer over to UNH (after the fact), and admissions won't let him play this season. Lester had minor knee surgery to repair a meniscus.

Ha! I don't know if I know anything not to mention knowing best!

I just threw that year out there because it reminded me of this season. We had Levi, Jamar, Lucious and Brent Wilson, Lillis, Zoellner and Iati. We won our first two games of the year, blowing out Siena at the TUC. I thought we were going to be awesome. Then we lost the first two home conference games and the reality that we had some really good but really young guards.

This group is really talented and they want to win, they're just going to take some lumps along the way. I think Click said he thought we'd be around 16 wins which would be OK.

Just as a schedule complaint. We were the only team in the conference to start off with two road conference games. Then we come home to face a team that's had a week to prepare for us.
