Last week Nancy Zimpher did an interview on Capital Tonight.. here is a quote that might be of interest to this topic:

 

Q: We have been hearing rumors of a flagship SUNY school in making UB that flagship, is that something that is in the works and what would the benefits be of creating a specific flagship school for the SUNY system?

 

A: Well I think its a bit more than a rumor because apparently around the Commission on Higher Education they discussed was suggested 2 of the 4 research centers be designated as flagships. And my concept is a little but more generous I think these 4 research centers and 2 free standing medical schools are flagships campuses. And I referred to them as the big six.....I wouldn't put the lid on anybody's aspirations on saying some are and some aren't.
