#104259 [MBB] Game #12: 12/12/17 - 9:00pm - @ Memphis

Posted by Phoenix on 11 December 2017 - 03:16 PM

I believe Tubby was also in the arena when UAlbany played UConn in our first NCAA game. We were the 1/16..and Tubby's Kentucky and UAB were the 8/9.

#104001 [MBB] Game #9: 12/2/17 - 7:00pm - vs Columbia

Us not blocking shots is nothing new. Just not a part of a Coach Brown defense. Since his first full season as HC in 02-03..we've never even been in the top 200 nationally in blocked shot rate. Over the past four seasons..this year included.. we've been 347, 326, 345 and 332. My guess is that's both personnel and strategy..which are then related to themselves. More shot block attempts tend to lead to more offensive rebounds for the opponent. Given that..we've been top 50 nationally in defensive rebound rate each year since 2012-13..this year included.

All that being said..perimeter defense..especially stopping penetration..has certainly been an issue this year.

#103768 [MBB] Game #7: 11/27/17 - 7pm - @ Monmouth

Posted by Phoenix on 27 November 2017 - 10:08 PM

Tough to give away a game we could've won..especially against a strong team like Monmouth..but a bit surprised by the negativity here. Lost by single digits in our toughest game of the year..given opponent and location.

Uncharacteristic FT shooting. Monmouth guards disrupted and turned over Nichols and Cremo..especially in the second half. Foul trouble in our front court didn't allow for any consistent play down low. If/when Conway figures out his role on offense..that will help situations like tonight. All that and we lost by single digits against a really good team on the road.

That said..pretty surprised we didn't see more Anderson or Clark..especially in the second half. Anderson especially I think has helped spell Nichols when he's gotten into funks. 78 minutes between Nichols and Cremo tonight with another game in two days.

#103592 Joe Cremo 1,000 Points - Countdown

Another 18 points moves Cremo to 971. His 14.6ppg now has him on pace to reach the mark November 27th at Monmouth. ZLK might get his wish.

Game high 20 points tonight for Cremo. Moves him to 940 points. At his current pace..14ppg..he'd hit the mark November 29th vs. Colgate.

Didn't we miss getting to see Mason at home 2 years ago as well?

I believe you're thinking of Justin Sears.

#103022 Joe Cremo 1,000 Points - Countdown

Posted by Phoenix on 11 November 2017 - 10:59 AM

Cremo passed over the 900 point mark in last night's win..now standing at 908. Figured it made sense to start the countdown.

At his current pace this season..10ppg..he'd hit the mark December 9th at Siena.

#101174 9/2 @ODU

Posted by Phoenix on 03 September 2017 - 09:58 AM

Thought the team played pretty well. Showed some great fight in the second half to make it a game late in the 4th.

Mofor was seriously impressive. First college game as a true freshman on the road at an FBS team. Put up a nearly 100 yard game when the defense was looking run most of the game.

Thought our defense played well. ODU scored 31 points..but they started with great field position much of the game. D-Line looked good against their strong running game.

Sussman looked better than I expected as a punter.

Tough game for Brunson. Got to at least hit those open <10 yard passes. If I'm looking for positives..he seemed to improve a bit as the game went on. And he was sacked a ton..but didn't make bonehead plays and risk interceptions by just chucking the ball when under pressure.

Updated policy for this season...again issued kind of late IMO. At least they came to their senses on a lot of stuff.

Was half expecting the stadium chairs to be back on the banned list..ha.

#100973 Wilkin out, Doughtery in

Posted by Phoenix on 22 August 2017 - 11:38 AM

Had noticed a few weeks ago that Wilkin no longer had college basketball reporter in his twitter bio..only horse racing.

Just noticed today that Pete Doughtery now has "University at Albany basketball beat reporter" in his twitter bio.

So it looks like the team will have new TU coverage.

#100855 2017-18 MBB Schedule

Another real solid add to the schedule. That Monmouth schedule is brutal..especially after losing Robinson to graduation.

#100822 Where are they now?

Jason Siggers also recently signed a deal with Maccabi in the top Israeli league. He's spent the past few years with Gilboa in the same league.

First 2018 commitment..Antonio Rizutto..6'3" PG out of PA. I believe it's Iati's cousin? He had just picked up an offer from Saint Joseph's.
