#101174 9/2 @ODU

Posted by Phoenix on 03 September 2017 - 09:58 AM

Thought the team played pretty well. Showed some great fight in the second half to make it a game late in the 4th.

Mofor was seriously impressive. First college game as a true freshman on the road at an FBS team. Put up a nearly 100 yard game when the defense was looking run most of the game.

Thought our defense played well. ODU scored 31 points..but they started with great field position much of the game. D-Line looked good against their strong running game.

Sussman looked better than I expected as a punter.

Tough game for Brunson. Got to at least hit those open <10 yard passes. If I'm looking for positives..he seemed to improve a bit as the game went on. And he was sacked a ton..but didn't make bonehead plays and risk interceptions by just chucking the ball when under pressure.

Updated policy for this season...again issued kind of late IMO. At least they came to their senses on a lot of stuff.

Was half expecting the stadium chairs to be back on the banned list..ha.

#100973 Wilkin out, Doughtery in

Posted by Phoenix on 22 August 2017 - 11:38 AM

Had noticed a few weeks ago that Wilkin no longer had college basketball reporter in his twitter bio..only horse racing.

Just noticed today that Pete Doughtery now has "University at Albany basketball beat reporter" in his twitter bio.

So it looks like the team will have new TU coverage.

#100855 2017-18 MBB Schedule

Another real solid add to the schedule. That Monmouth schedule is brutal..especially after losing Robinson to graduation.

#100822 Where are they now?

Jason Siggers also recently signed a deal with Maccabi in the top Israeli league. He's spent the past few years with Gilboa in the same league.

First 2018 commitment..Antonio Rizutto..6'3" PG out of PA. I believe it's Iati's cousin? He had just picked up an offer from Saint Joseph's.

Hooley was signed by the Melbourne United in the NBL..top league in Australia. Same league Jamar played in down there. He was recently named MVP of the Atlas Challenge tournament in China..playing on an Australian invitational team. He had also been averaging 20+ ppg in the lower-tier SEABL league in Australia.

Congrats to Pete!

Verbal Commits has Martin-Garcia transferring to Adelphi. That makes the numbers work now.

Looks like a solid get. Scored 16.5ppg and shot 38% from the outside. Also put up 4.6apg. According to Verbal Commits..he also had an offer from Kent State.

Played in the same NJCAA DI region as Ray Sanders, Richard Peters and Anders Haas.

I like the 3 year JUCO. Nice blend between stability and experience.

2. We probably don't have a chance of landing him (pessimist in me)

He chose Albany as one of his official visit locations..so it certainly seems like we're in the running. Other reported offers..at least so far..are Bethune-Cookman, Winthrop, NC Central, Robert Morris and Norfolk State. I think we compare pretty favorably to that group.

Roland Nyama announced he's not returning to Stony Brook for his last year of eligibility. Played 28mpg and averaged 10ppg for them this season.

#99211 Coach Brown

Posted by Phoenix on 21 March 2017 - 11:34 AM

Grasso seems to make the most sense. Becker isn't as far fetched as you might think..though. Could more than triple Becker's pay. Much better facilities. And has family from CT. Has the HC experience over Grasso..too.

Per sources, Quinnipiac coaching search has narrowed to four names: John Becker, Baker Dunleavy, Jared Grasso and Travis Steele. #MAACHoops

#99161 Recruiting - 2017

Posted by Phoenix on 19 March 2017 - 10:17 AM

Nice breakdown Eli. Some thoughts...

Maitland and Clark are just reported to have offers. I haven't seen anything reported that they may have signed. If you just mean offers..we also have offers out to three other guards..per Verbal Commits. Two of which are listed to have been offered after the start of the New Year.

Has it been confirmed that Lands will earn a medical redshirt? Only played in 5 games..but played in one on January 8th..about halfway through the season. I know there's a lot of specific rules for the medical redshirt..many of which seem fungible though.

Has it been confirmed that Andrews will not be back? I'd agree that seems the most likely..especially because he was/is a senior this year..but it's still only 'possible'..at least in my mind..because he would seem to have a year of eligibility left.

I'd be pretty surprised if Anderson transferred. Saw the court in each of the last 18 games..including 7 double digit minute games. Healy and Cochran will be coming in..but both will be first year DI players..and Ennema's graduation opens up at least some minutes in the backcourt.
