[MBB] Game #17: 1/6/18 - 1:00pm - @ New Hampshire

Recommended Posts

UAs conference record has not been great throughout the years. Weve only won more than 10 games four times in our history I believe.

Even espn bracketology was suspect on Albany after the Lamb injury and put UMBC in there. That was even before the Hartford debacle.

Coach is saying he has to put some handcuffs on some guys offensively because they are making poor decisions. Giving them freedom has not worked. Said Charles has not touched the ball nearly enough on offense the past two games.

For a veteran team that last possession was awful. There is something weird going on...Nichols doesn't look at all like the same guy...Cremo missing free throws.

I'm guessing Eli had a much better time at the wedding.

Yes, while Eli is having a good time at the wedding, UA was wetting the bed.

Wedding was okay. Just got done watching 95% of the game.

I'm getting to the end of my line here...I know, I know, only 2nd game, but as Click said...these early losses are going to cost us home court in the AE tourney, etc. It may have already. Playing UVM in Albany is >>>>>> than playing UVM at UVM. At this rate, we don't need to worry about UVM or the championship game.

Bench Nichols. I don't know what's wrong with him but he needs to work his $iena out in practice not in games. Tie that guy to a seat and don't let him off until he makes 90 out of 100 in practice with Cremo on him. Some will disagree but the dude is single handily killing our offense. How many games now has he had where his stat line looks like 3-15, 4-12, 5-15, etc.? Enough is enough. IMO he's the reason we lost a few games so far. Shooting the team out of games. I put the games squarely on him and his atrocious FG% and shot selection. Getting tired of trying to be supportive of a player who is clearly playing to the beat of his own drum. A missed brick might as well be a turnover.

Glad Brown is calling people out publicly. I hope he benches people.

This is ridiculous. UNH isn't a bad team and a bad loss, but 0-2 is unacceptable considering we had such a good OOC and played so so so good against Louisville. Where is that team?

We got crushed on the boards for the first time.

OK? Bench David. Who you going to play? Costa when not handling the ball just stands around--no movement without the ball; and has not made a shot in the last three games. Clark is a walking turnover and his shot has also abandoned him of late. I don't know, maybe you go big and start Cochrane & Campbell and play Joe @ point {best assist man on the team, but subject to TO's when pressed??????}

I've said it a couple of times, we are getting NOTHING off the BENCH. David is definitely struggling and bringing him off the bench may ignite him; but it also may shake his confidence even more than it is now???? Blame David all you want or Stire or Joe or Campbell (who is also in a scoring funk); but unless we start getting some points off the bench, this team will struggle in the conference. Then only a super human effort from the starting five or coaching wizardry will get us out of the pack in the ameast tournament and into the show.

We can find a fan in the crowd to shoot 3-15 game in game out. Not gonna lose much production. ?

I do agree on the bench though but our best player(s) can't shoot so poorly game in game out. No matter how good the bench is.

Shake stuff up for one game. Do something that will start a fire.

Start:

1. Clark

2. Anderson

3. Cochran

4. Conway

5. Foster

Sub (in this order)

Cambell

Charles

Stire

Nichols

Cremo

Keep the starters in until at least the 16:00 media timeout.

This is mostly to send a message to the captains that low energy and no one being vocal to motivate their teammates isn't going to be accepted.

I love our team, and I've stated before that I wouldn't trade any of them for anyone else in the America East, but I don't like watching the game played when it feels like the opponent is winning the majority of the loose balls and pure effort 50/50 plays. If the team is pushing hard and has a poor night or the opponent is shooting lights out and they lose, as fans we can accept that. But losing because of what appears to be effort is hard to watch.

Cremo and Nichols are both potential POY guys. Stire is a bull and plays way bigger than he is. Charles really is the walking bucket and could be a second team all AE this year. Campbell can shoot (has been terrible in games though) and is a great defensive player, but lately none of those 5 are showing any fire.

The team needs Dallas Ennema back. Say what you want about some of his antics, but I always loved how hard he played and when he raised his arms to the crowd to get everyone excited. He had fire.

Brown has an innate ability to adjust mid season... There's little doubt in my mind he'll do it again. He's got to much talent on this team to keep losing to unh and Hartford.

I'm just super frustrated as they've underperformed and have basically surrendered a top 2 seed. With every loss the margin gets smaller and smaller. These are the losses we will lament when they have to go on the road 2 or 3 times in ae tourney.

This team has lost the swagger. I think what at times may look like no effort is a team unsure and baffled.

I like that idea godanesgo99! And your not just singling out Nichols this way either. Shows a team issue. If that group can play SB to a draw by 1st media, you sent a message and didn't hurt a chance for a win. Heck, if we have a lead keep them in!

No reason to single out Nichols. While he has been off lately, it isn't on him. Yes he has forced bad shots and looked lackadaisical at times, but it is a TEAM issue. They have 4 captains, and each of them should be pushing everyone around them to play harder and have some fire/swagger.

We are all still kind of overreacting to 2 bad games, and I assume that none of us really know what is happening in the locker room or in practice, so we are all just venting our frustration as fans. We could be way off base. I think we all just want to see them succeed and perform to expectations.

On the flip side, maybe the team really isn't that good and the incredible OOC record was purely because the teams we played were that much worse than anyone expected in the preseason. Brown did say in almost every press conference or media appearance that the team needed to improve and that he was the unhappiest 9-1, 10-1, 12-3, etc coach in the country. Maybe he was more right than we thought.

Nichols is high utilization player... He also is the primary ball handler so heavy is the head that wears the crown. Losing 4 out of the last 6 is a team failure and not a nichols failure. But to suggest that we should just gloss over his struggles isn't fair, he's the starting point guard on a team with high expectations.

If that wrist is that injured and I think it may be... Than attack off the dribble, get the team into sets (not that he doesn't), feed the ball consistently down low to Charles... Be a pitbull on D.

Bigger question: was Ahmad sick? I was surprised to see zero minutes after Coach said he was his top back up Guard.

Late for team bus. http://blog.timesuni...team-bus/22999/ - statefan

I guess it comes down to holding players accountable, it sure would have been easier on CB to play Clark.

But we don't know was this Clark's 1st offense???? I remember CB being upset about some of the new guys not paying attention to the game scout.

I think the captains have to start being more responsible regarding their teammates especially if the captains aren't assertive on the court.

Alls I want to know is what the $iena happened?

12-3 going into conference play. Must be that the AE has become the elite conference in the nation.

Pretty sure we went into the new year thinking we were going 15-1 or 16-0 without

having to even play.

Yeah, evidently our craptastic OOC schedule gave us a false sense of ability because we assumed much of the AE would be garbage again (at least compared to the likes of Iona, Yale, Louisville, Memphis, etc.). Perhaps Louisville was a flash in the pan and an exception to the rule and we are regressing to the mean. Or perhaps it was a glimpse of things to come and we just need a few more weeks and will gel at the last possible moment...but again, that'll have implications on where we play not only in the AE but in the NCAA's (if we make it).

Either way, the team isn't doing so good right now.

300+ SOS in the non conference. That's what happened.
