Coach Brown @ Local Fundraiser Walk

Every year the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America has walks across the country to raise money for research. This year according to the brochure I was mailed, Coach Will Brown will be attending the Albany one. Having Crohn's Disease I was really excited to see that Will is supporting this cause and is suppose to be coming, it should be cool.

If my memory serves me correct MsGDG, when Coach was hired, hired they gave a whole thing on his background (way back when we were sporting 4 guys on the court).

 

While he attended Dowling for hoops, I think he was good enough to have been trying (or got) a ride to play at Notre Dame. However, I think he, much like you, suffers from Crohn's and that went by the wayside.

 

Good to see him supporting both this causes that afflicts many, and Coaches vs. Cancer. If you have the recognition you must give back-- our coaches, including Brown, do a great job of it.

 

I hope the walk is a success for all!

UAlbany competitive early, but Notre Dame pulls away for rout

Notre Dame90 UAlbany55 SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Before Crohn's Disease began to eat away at University at Albany coach Will Brown's playing career, recruiting letters from Notre Dame fueled his wildest dreams. Saturday, the 31-year-old finally got a chance to see Notre Dame's Joyce Center. But what awaited Brown and his UAlbany men's basketball team there was a nightmare.

 

A recurring nightmare.

 

Problems on the boards, too many turnovers and stretches where toughness was lacking all played into Notre Dame's 90-55 rout of the Great Danes before a crowd of 10,699.

 

"They're just so much bigger and stronger than us at every position," lamented Brown after UAlbany yielded the most points in his 23 games as head coach and the most overall since Syracuse pinned a 91-65 loss on the Great Danes last Dec. 2.

 

"I think we did some good things," Brown continued. "We're going to rely on our young kids. And for our league, we have some pretty good young players. But it's going to be a roller-coaster ride with young kids."

 

Saturday's ride was mostly downhill, though UAlbany (0-3) made strides at the free-throw line (9-for-13), knocked down eight 3-pointers and received solid games from freshman starters Levi Levine and Jamar Wilson.

 

Levine led the Great Danes with 15 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Wilson added 13 points, four assists and tied for the team high with six rebounds. Senior Antione Johnson chipped in 11 points for his 39th career double-digit scoring game.

 

"I used to coach in the America East (at Delaware, which has since moved to the Colonial Athletic Association), so I know what they're going through," Notre Dame coach Mike Brey said. "But they're on their way in that league. I really like their perimeter."

 

In the first meeting ever between the schools, Wilson gave UAlbany a 2-0 lead on a layup 81 seconds into the game, but Notre Dame senior Dan Miller's 3-pointer at the 18:23 mark gave the Irish (5-1) the lead for good.

 

Miller, a 6-foot-8 transfer from Maryland, scored 19 of his career-high 22 points in the first half.

 

"I wish Dan Miller would have transferred to Albany," Brown deadpanned.

 

Miller helped the Irish build an early 18-6 advantage by being the central figure in an 11-3 run, and his 3-point play with 7:54 left in the first half gave Notre Dame a 28-14 advantage.

 

UAlbany, though, continued to hang around, trailing 32-22 with 5:34 left in the first half after a 3-pointer by Levine. But a dunk by Irish freshman Torin Francis touched off a 12-0 spurt, and the Great Danes could get no closer than 18 the rest of the way.

 

The Great Danes have eight days off before facing Army on the road Dec. 9. It's a break Brown, for one, is looking forward to.

 

"Everybody is so eager to play games early in the year," he said. "I think knowing that we were going to be so young, I almost enjoy practice more than I enjoy the games. I can stop the action every minute, because I have unlimited timeouts.

 

"I think this week is going to be very beneficial for us. We can get some of the banged-up people healthy, hopefully. We can fine-tune some things. We can add some things. Hopefully, this can be a very productive time for us."

Good find with that article. I know he played his freshman year at Penn and then transfered closer to home to Dowling because of some medical issues..guess that's what it was.

 

Great to see that he's lending his public notoriety and popularity to benefit a good cause.

Coach Brown, the entire coaching staff and the basketball team all came to the Crohn's & Colitis walk today.

 

The seniors were not present, and Martin was MIA. The players sold raffle tickets and were like the Bob Barker girls holding up all the prizes which was really funny because most the the prizes were toys including makeup and doll things. Coach Brown was making fun the the guys and tried to get a few them to "sell" it more. Was great to see UA present at this event.

 

On a side note there was a guy with a Siena sweatshirt on, I wanted to go over and say something but I didn't. There was also alot of people from Bingo, with Bearcat sweatshirts.
