1. It's just amazing that a kid who doesn't want to stay at Siena must be misguided, anything that happens that is Siena related that could be at all considered negative is never their fault. They just can't understand why everyone in the world doesn't want to attend Siena, especially with all Siena's inherent advantages. Some of their fans now say that it's not much of a loss because Kenny H. was/is better anyway and can easily shift to the PG and by doing so even his already solid FG% will probably get better(ie. Siena Tony) I guess it's called addition by subtraction? "As the Siena World Turns" don't miss the next exciting edition. 15255 I haven't posted here in a while, but will offer some additional information on the Kojo situation. The truth of the matter is that McCaffery discovered that Kojo was talking with Duquesne (supposedly through a street agent - see below) a couple/few weeks before Kojo formally asked for his release. When Kojo went into McCaffery's office to ask for the release, Fran told him that he knew about Duquesne and reminded Kojo that "shopping-around", either directly, or through an intermediary violates NCAA rules. Apparently, Kojo was stunned that McCaffery had this information and just got up and walked out of the office - never to be heard from again. Fast forward a couple of weeks and now we have Siena's imbecile of an AD telling the TU that Siena's not going to release Kojo because "we think" there was tampering. In the same statement, D'Argenio, the moron, states that Siena's not going to pursue a tampering claim with the NCAA. This guy is a serious jackass, who regularly embarasses the school. And, now D'Argenio has succeeded in alienating Siena from all of Brooklyn, as Ostrin (Kojo's "street agent", who supposedly brokered him to Everhart at Duquesne) casts a wide net down here in NYC. Siena should have quietly granted Kojo a conditional release (no Duquesne, no MAAC) and washed their hands of the kid. Instead, their jerkoff of an AD has created a horribly negative media frenzy, which has made Siena look awful. I would not be at all surprised to see Kojo surface at a Big East school. If the kid had a consistent jumpshot, he could play for anybody. With respect to UA and Siena, I can't understand all the bad blood with the rivalry. But, I look forward to the game every year. I can't say enough about what a great job Will Brown has done for you guys. This season's game should be interesting...
2. P.S. I heard a crazy thing the other day and maybe someone can clear this up for me. Someone told me that there's a player on Siena (some big guy maybe it's # 11) that was found by their coach when he was on vacation in Costa Rica (or somewhere down south) is there any truth to this? 10611 The kid you might be referring to is Joao Braga - a 6'2" freshman point guard from Sao Paolo, Brazil. Braga participated in The NBA's Basketball Without Borders Program - whatever the hell that means. The NBA has some sort of an outreach program for Latin American players. They sponsor a bunch of kids from Latin America (the top amateur players) and send them up to The States for a couple of weeks to play against American kids, etc... I heard that Braga turned down a Brazilian "pro" contract to play for Siena. Fran McCaffery was recruiting Braga at UNC-Greensboro, and lost touch with the kid during his transition to Siena. Apparently, Braga tracked McCaffery down at Siena over the summer and Fran decided to recruit Braga to Siena as Fran's replacement at UNCG wasn't expressing any interest in and/or didn't know about the kid. Braga hasn't seen any action this season, which probably means he isn't ready for Division One basketball yet. As far as the poll goes. I root for both UA and Siena. While, I graduated from Siena, I really love what Will Brown has done, so I'm a bit torn over Saturday's game. I just want to see a good, clean battle and let the best team win.
3. Vitale tends to drive me nuts with all of his pro-NCAA drivel, but he really does his homework and his comments about UA were quite excellent. The piece on Doc Sauers was really cool too. ESPN highlighted that Sauers was among the most successful collegiate coaches in history.
4. Vitale said that UA was favored to win the AE and that Jamar was a big reason for that. He also said he loved what Will Brown was doing at UA. Vitale further commented that Billy Donovan said he was very impressed with The Danes.
5. Nice win against Oakland, guys! Now, go out and give the Gators hell! I think they may be looking past UA. Can anyone post a link to a web radio feed for the game? Best, I91
6. The Siena/UA rivalry redux is great for the Capital region and I hope both teams keep moving forward. I met Brown after the UMBC game last year and came away with a terrific impression of him as a person and as a basketball professional. It looks like Brown landed a very nice recruit in the 6'11" kid - congrats on that. Lanier did some really good things at Siena, but unfortunately he was in over his head as a coach and manager. Lanier's firing was badly mishandled by the notoriously inept Siena administration, but he used that as an excuse to encourage his recruits and current players to jump ship and that's inappropriate. I know from an inside source that Siena was uncomfortable with Lanier's transfers, dropouts and grade problems, so they used last year's losing season, together with the other issues to justify his firing. Had Haddix and Mensah been healthy last season, Lanier would've squeaked-out a ~.500 record and would still be the head coach today. In any case, McCaffery and Mitch make for a very professional tandem and their early recruiting success bodes very well for the future. See you at "The Knick"! By the way, most of the Siena fans are a highly decent and gracious bunch, but the message boards attract some real screwballs. Present company excluded, of course!
7. Hey Guys, I have posted several times over on the Siena board that we (Siena) had better start to respect UA - Patch, Dane96 and soup can vouch for this. When I warned the Siena community last year that UA was going to beat them, I was ridiculed on the board. When people on the Siena board started saying that the UA game is a "should win" this year, I reminded them that UA is a likely 20-win team this year, while Siena is going to be lucky to win six games, given the mess that Lanier left behind. Again, I was ridiculed. I applaud the work that Will Brown has done and hope you guys remain competitive. I expect UA to thump Siena this year, so long as your guys don't choke - good luck. In any case, Siena will be on the way up next year (Fran has received verbals from two excellent recruits in Franklin and Ubiles and there are two more in the hopper) and we should look forward to a healthy competitive basketball rivalry for the future. By the way, Tony knows that UA is good and he respects Brown. Best wishes for a successful '05-'06 campaign. Indian91
8. Hey Guys, I'm a Siena grad that was there during the late 80s/early 90s "glory days" of Brown, Robinson, McCoy and later, Bennerman. Those teams were really great and it was fun to watch them sneak up on the big guys and kick their asses often. Unfortunately, while the program was awesome then, it's in shambles now. Rob Lanier is in way over his head and needs to go after this season. I live in NYC now, but am planning a couple of weekend trips up north to see the Danes and Siena. I love what Will Brown has done with the UA program and was not at all surprised by the ass-kicking that UA heaped on Siena earlier this year. In fact, I warned the arrogant posters on our board to take UA seriously. In any case, I love the revived rivalry - it's great for Albany, which needs all the excitement it can get. Good luck to you guys the rest of the way and I look forward seeing the Danes live in '05! Best, I91
9. Congrats again to the Danes. I am a Siena alum and fan, however I'm really looking forward to watching UA make some noise this year. Coach Brown has put together a nice team and he's an excellent coach. Hope your squad stays healthy and kicks some ass this year! Best, Indian91
