Mark did a poor job of covering UA when he did cover it, but not nearly as bad as Tim does. UA was also not what it is today then. Mark seems to be a Siena fan, and probably was then as well.

I'm not dismissing the bias, the TU Center, or the fact that Siena has a richer D1 history, those are all facts. I'm more saying that Tim is obviously not a fan. Regardless of bias, if the person who was covering UA was a fan of the team and not more concerned about what horses were running today there would be more coverage.

I think part of building a brand is to send Benson to figure out a way to get better coverage....winning alone isn't getting it done.

I am not sure if this is the correct spot to post this, but maybe it is time to look at UA publicity or lack there of as a whole. Walking from Dutch to the women's game yesterday I noticed a lacrosse game on the rugby field. I did not give it much thought @ the time [looking forward to the lady dane's first game.] With a couple minutes left and the game well in hand, I left to investigate the lacrosse goings on. I discovered games at Casey, Fallon, the field hockey field and at least two games on the old giant's practice fields. There were tents set up flea market style selling new and used lacrosse equipment. In other words some sort of huge high school {at least 12 teams involved--maybe more?} lacrosse event going on.

Now, I follow lacrosse more than most on this blog and I knew nothing of this event until I stumbled on it. Where was the publicity? Where was the "community good will" and financial benefit to the area announced by bringing all these players, parents and fans to the area?

On several occasions, attending a UA event on a Saturday or Sunday morning and wondering why I had to park so far away only to discover a cheer leading event or such going on. I assume we charge something for the use our facilities. But whatever we make it pales to what we could be doing Good Will Wise, Publicity Wise, Community Interest/Involvement Wise.

We should be shouting about this stuff from the top of the Carillon or highest tree. Didn't we just hire a vp of communications? What the heck is he/she doing if we are still complaining about TU coverage after all these years of a now very successful athletic program. What the heck is he/she doing to let the community know ALL that is going on at out great University.

Just a few thoughts...

Cremo and Andrews both handle the ball and can attack the basket.

Charles is tough as nails. A type of player I don't think UA has ever had. Won't back down from anyone (Poythress).

Peters looks like he has lost some weight and can move a lot better.

Stire plays hard and can easily score 6pts a game just from put backs off rebounds.

Didn't even notice Rowley played 31 min and only took one shot. Felt like he was all over the place. Had 4 steals, but also had 5 TO.

Singletary can take anyone off the dribble.

Hooley was Hooley. Some of the crazy layup attempts always find ways to go in lol. Manages to get to the line 8 times.

Sanders just had a bad game and couldn't stay out of foul trouble.

Ummmm....LEVI LEVINE? Toughest S.O.B. to ever don a DI UALBANY jersey. I like Charles from the little I know / seen of him, and he comes from my neighborhood back in Brooklyn, which is as tough as it gets. But Levi is a whole other level. I would not want to piss off Levi and then end up in an alley with him.

Recall Levi's knife story in Europe...

I liked what I saw overall from the team outside the poor foul shooting and missing too many decent looks....Evan showed me he can play with many many guards in CB....Stire, love his grit and hustle....wish he was 2 inches taller.....Peter, as UA '08 said, is Peter...will get his....glad it came out Sanders was fighting a hammy cuz I was disappointed in his game by far the most...new guys fit in pretty darn well...and Cremo is a very smart player!!!! Let's use Friday night against arguably the best team in CB to get the W in BU tonight!!!

Quick recap of the trip to Rupp: Sat with the Stires and Cremos, who both made the trip down from New York. The Singletary's Andrews', and I think Rich's mom were in attendance as well. I was really impressed with Joe and Jamir, came right in and looked very comfortable. With them in the lineup, we're 5 deep at guard (6 if you consider Dallas a guard). We outscored them in the paint, which was crazy, and Greg and Charles looked good. Mike Rowley, as strong has he is, did not look all that comfortable, and had a few too many turnovers. Charles will be a huge help in the paint. Overall, I was very impressed with how they played. LET'S GO DANES!

I'm obviously biased but I didn't see Charles do anything to warrant a T. Poythress threw him to the ground and then gave him a forearm to the back when he got back up. Charles didn't really do anything except look PO'ed.

So Mark S was on the beat yesterday. Is Tim done? Also noticed that the TU did not send Mark to either Duke or Wisconsin.

Huh, interesting. I didn't even notice that Mark was in Boston (and that's not a knock on Mark, I just didn't pay attention). I'd rather have Mark as a beat writer, even with the "cold war" between him and the Danes, than Wilkin. At least Mark "gets" basketball.
