  1. CONGRATS on the TV game, from a Siena fan Just another rung on the ladder eclipsed on the way to establishing your program. I've been following Siena games since early on in the Mike Deane era - and Deane took a couple of very good Siena teams down to VCU and got absolutely destroyed. They are a tough out on their home floor. A real nice opportunity for you guys - I hope Jamar brings his "A" game and gets UA a nice win. A win down there should lock up an NIT game for you guys, if you need it. Best of luck. Word is Siena will be at Hofstra. Hofstra has a fantastic backcourt - Antoine Agudio who is a sophomore and Loren Stokes who is a junior. Hofstra should be dynamite next year, probably the top team in the CAA next year, and will give Siena a real attractive home game in 06-07.
  2. The only thing that belongs in the rafters are Championship and Postseason banners.
  3. Not for teams that lose to UNH on their home floor.
  4. Cleveland State is a tough place to play - even when CSU stinks.
  5. The refs swallowed the whistle when Jamar ran over Kojo to tie the game - and they certainly weren't going to blow the whistle on the last posession. UAlbany had a full five minutes to beat a tired (3 games in 4+ days), undermanned and less talented Siena team - and they didn't do it.
  6. Sarge, High expectations are tough to overcome early on in a season. Once UA gets in a comfort zone, you'll see the second half team of today's game on a regular basis. I have to say the position that your AD put Will Brown in a few months back, by only giving him a one year deal, is most certainly a factor in some of the inconsistent play. It should have been recognized mid-way through last season that Will Brown had really put the program in a position to succeed in just a couple of short years - especially after the pile of trash the Beaton situation left the program in. I guarantee, with a settled contract situation, the Danes would be playing a lot looser. Also, the kids are feeling the pressure to perform for their coach - who they obviously have a lot of respect for. The AE season is right around the corner, and UA will most likely be on ESPN come March battling for the automatic bid. I think the losses against Sacred Heart and Siena have probably cost you guys an NIT bid - especially since the NCAA now owns the NIT, which will probably reduce the amount of bids that are given to the mid-majors.
  7. If the refs didn't blow the whistle for a charge on Jamar's tying hoop, they weren't going to blow the whistle at the end. There was plenty of time in overtime for the Danes to win - especially against a team that was running on fumes the last 10 minutes of regulation. BOY IT'S QUIET OVER HERE.
  8. Siena fan here - still up listening, about 6 minutes to go. Outstanding effort so far. Missed a couple of open 3s - one by Brent, could have really got it close. Only down 5 now - with 4 minutes to go.
  9. That's a tough effort on a couple of fronts.... Not a good start for Will Brown given his contract situation. and Loses like that can be costly if an NIT bid is in the balance. I gave little thought to the UA game until I saw the final score - I was puzzled - I figured it would be a 20 point win. I think it caught all of the Siena gimps off guard - and has given some juice to the game next week.
  10. Best of luck against the Gators from a Saints fan. This is one of those opportunities for a real solid, veteran mid-major to take out the whooping stick on a major. Gators will have their hands full guarding your perimeter play - and Zoellner has enough talent to be a presence in the post. Should be a good game.
  11. Some of you know me from the Siena board. Anyway, I've had a bit of a vested interest in th UA baseball program the last few years. My brother signed with UA four years ago - and would have just wrapped up his senior year. However, he only played one year and decided not to play after that - for a variety of reasons that I don't need to go into. Anyway, the class he came in with (Vallone, Farley, Lamb, Delaney etc) was supposed to be the class that really put UA on the map. They had a fantastic year last year - which I figured they would have followed-up with a league title this year - or at the very least, would have been well above .500 in the league. You can't help but notice that there has been significant turnover in the baseball roster the last few years and very few players, especially from the senior class that just graduated, showed improvement. Lamb and Vallone both had outstanding freshman and sophomore years - but certainly tailed off their last two years. It certainly seems that McElroy has been proactive in his attempt to turn UA into an athletic powerhouse in the America East - given some coaching changes that have been made and the efforts made to rehabilitate the facilities - especially the outdoor facilities. I know a lot of the kids that just graduated and that are still with the program - and this was the year that everyone was pointing to three and four years ago. Certainly a disappointing season for the program. Anyone think Mueller's seat is getting a little warm?
  12. Not tough considering I picked UAlbany to wipe the floor with Siena's freshman guards.
  13. I never said Siena gets 2k students to games...they get about 50. When they played at the ARC they would get 1500-2000 students. The last month of the 1993 DIII squad was all for the NCAA tournament games - which I don't believe you guys will be hosting any of them anytime soon. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves if the Vermont/Northeastern games don't draw 4k.
  14. Football? Who cares about football? Non-scholarship D-IAA is on the same level with RPI and Union. With school in session, UAlbany is lucky to draw 1800 for the last two games. I know you guys have a loyal student following -but it's really only a couple of hundred that show up - if that. Even with a solid base of 2000, UAlbany would have to more than triple their base to get near Siena's. The reason Siena is playing at The Pepsi is because they have more season ticketholders than they do seats at the ARC (4500 capacity). Also, UAlbany certainly has the potential to expand their athletic programs - much moreso than Siena. However, I just don't see Albany getting 3000 or 3500 on a regular basis - even with a potential 20 win team. Even with 3500, you guys are still 1500 short of a sellout. There is nothing in Albany's past support that would show that. Seems that Siena grads stick around the area following graduation - probably because they have a large local student base, while the bulk of UAlbany grads head back to Long Island/NJ/NYC etc - so the alumni core in the area isn't as strong. I know the MAAC put the squash on "announced" attendance. There were MAAC programs that were using the date of the game as attendance (12/20 = 1220). I know that Siena counts tickets collected at the gate now. Look at the MAAC tournament attendance the last couple of times it was in Albany and the 2003 NIT attendance - pretty average numbers (7k or so). If Siena is padding numbers by "800"....they would still average 6k+ without the 800.....and that's with an awful team. Whichever team has the better guards is going to win the Siena/UAlbany match-ups. I don't see Siena being able to handle you guys next year in the backcourt.....not until Siena's frosh are a little more experienced. If you guys were ever going to start drawing 2500, 3000 this would be the year. As it can not get any worse at Siena right now and it's probably going to get worse. I'm really shocked that you guys didn't draw more the last two games - 1300 and 1200 is putrid for a team that is playing it's best ball in 6 or 7 years - even if the kids are out on break. My brother is a UAlbany senior and he goes to more Siena games than he does UAlbany games. He hasn't been to 5 RACC games in 3.5 years.
