Wasting away Jamar?

I know this may be a little controversial but let me preface this by saying this is not a knock on Will Brown. He obviously knows what the heck he's doing, otherwise we wouldn't be where we are today. But here's my beef with the way we're running our offense:

 

Jamar is not given an opportunity to dominate the other team the way he would be had he been playing on another offense. He's almost always the best player on the court (by leaps and bounds most of the time) and yet we run very few plays designed exclusively for him.

 

In the Vermont loss there were zero pick and rolls run for Jamar, zero isolations, and zero post ups. Why can't we draw up plays that showcase Jamar - especially against man defense - and actually make the other team double and triple him. I feel like sometimes we get caught up in x's and o's but whatever happened to giving the ball to your best player and getting the hell out of his way.

 

I think the way our offense is designed is negating the disparity between Jamar and the next most talented player on the court. If we're gonna' go anywhere this season, that needs to change.

It's all about the TEAM... That's how we win games. Jamar's skilled, no challenging that truth; he's also one player on a very skilled UA team and is graduating in May. I think Brown's game plan and philosophy has been successful thus far and will continue to bring the wins.

Agreed completely. What will we do next year if we rely solely on him this year? This isn't NBA Live, you don't just chuck it up with one player and win by 40. Not to mention how other teams are playing Jamar this year. Is it just me or is he getting mugged out there in confrence play? Besides, I'd like enough of our Danes to be confident enough to take a good open shot when the games really count and not just count on one player. Team basketball has got to be the number one reason why i'd much rather watch a college game than a pro game anyday.

Problem is, against Vermont there was a 7 foot center who stood in the paint and didn't let him drive to the basket.

 

They put him at the 2 guard spot, ran him off a few screens, what do you want him to do? I mean, you act like he had 3 pts last game. He still scored, what? 20?...

Jamar had 22 at UVM. It's tough, though, to win any basketball game when the 3rd leading scorer goes for 4 points (Connelly) and guys #3 through #10 (who got in the game) combine for only 10 points.

 

For UA to do damage in Boston (and beyond, who knows) Jamar has to play well, but it has to be a balanced attack too.
