  1. W&M Tribe fan here. #1, really glad to have Albany in CAA FB. I'm in Albany for the weekend - unfortunately because my wife's grandma died and she wanted to be buried in her hometown of Altamont. I had forgotten how beautiful it is here...love this area. Anyway, I know a bunch of us Tribe fans are looking forward to watching our boys play up here and I hope you guys find your way to Williamsburg. Really think you'll appreciate the "family friendly" gameday experience and there's lots to do so make a long weekend of it. The CAA TV schedule hosed every team except JMU. Go figure. The good news is most CAA teams offer free (UD) or inexpensive live streaming of their games so you shouldn't have to miss anything. Hope to catch up with you next season.
  2. Schools left the AE to go to the CAA for a reason. The schools that left the CAA did so for "bigger and better" opportunities...usually with one sport in mind. American, VCU and GMU wanted one thing...a MBB conference. ECU, GA State and ODU wanted one thing...a FBS conference. NEC vs CAA Football: Good move because this was a no brainer for your school. For one thing, you'll most likely play a FBS program at the tune of about $400,000. At least two of your games will be on TV. The CAA routinely has 6+ teams in the top 25. There is zero chance that playing St. Francis, CCU, Sacred Heart, Robert Morris, and Bryant comes anywhere near playing UNH, UD, W&M, JMU, Nova, and TU. Baseball: You have to sort past 8 CAA teams (including 2 in the top 40) before you get to the best AE school...at 150. Basketball: 2012 season was a bad year for CAA MBB. SBU had an unusually great season (83 RPI when they're normally 150-250); UA had an upswing from the 200+ norm; Vermont stayed about the same in the 130s but was excellent a few years ago, BU stayed around 150, and Hartford surged from their 290 average. The current CAA teams, to include CoC, usually go like this: UD (140); TU (150-300); NU (160); JMU (80s-250); Drexel (66..terrible 2012 season); CoC: 70-125. Honestly, that seems like a wash to me but you can bet the CAA won't be down for long. UA would have some hefty travel costs in the CAA but the TV contract may offset that some and the revenue from playing a FBS school every year would help. You'd expand your school's footprint to the south so that would help with recruiting. I dunno, sit and wait may be a solid plan but the door to the CAA may shut in a year.
  3. I sent a note to CAAzone's admin. I'm not sure why you've had problems logging in. I'm thrilled that URI is staying and I'm certain the addition of Albany, and to a lesser extent SBU, had something to do with this decision. Providence to Albany is less than a 3 hour drive so the Scooby-Doos - Rams rivalry is a real possibility. Don't take the "Scooby-Doo" reference with offense...I know a U@A alum who refers to you that way.
  4. Hope we can get a North/South rivalry going. DUKES v. DANES!! I believe that was settled some time in the 19th century...y'all won.
  5. Thrilled SBU and Albany are joining CAA football. It's going to be fun.
  6. William & Mary fan here. If the rumors are accurate, welcome to CAA football! Yes, most CAA teams play a FBS opponent every year; ODU is the exception. The payday for playing a FBS opponent is usually $350,000+ and it's normally televised/streamed (ESPN3). W&M, JMU, and UR play ACC teams and all 3 have beaten an ACC team in the past 3 years (W&M beat UVA and was beating UNC late in the 4th quarter; JMU beat VT; and UR has owned Duke). Delaware has played Navy recently but I believe they didn't play a FBS team last year. Villanova usually plays Temple. UNH has fared very well against FBS opponents and Maine barely lost to Pitt last year. This season, Towson has LSU (yes, that one) and Kent State. The CAA and NBC Sports Network are entering a new contract and most CAA teams play at least one game on Comcast Sports Network (regional). This season, W&M will enjoy 6 televised games. More than half of your regular season games isn't bad for a FCS program. I envision some UA vs Syracuse/Buffalo games in your future. CAA football would be an excellent opportunity for UA. I enjoyed Albany a couple of years ago on my way home from Altamont, NY and look forward to visiting your school. I believe Albany and William & Mary have the longest tenure coaches in all of college football.
