Amazing that UConn coach just puts together teams that are virtually unbeatable. They can all make threes. They are up 50 and still just hoisting 3s. It's crazy.

I had a high opinion of the team until they chuck up 3's at the end of the game up by 60. Very low rent. Auriemma should stop that.

I don't subscribe to this mentality, they are good because they have a killer instinct and run everyone off the floor. Nothing low rent about it... I'd want the same when we play Oneonta, crush them.

Agreed. This is college basketball, D1 at that. No mercy, even if we're the losers. Hell, I think kids should be taught this in modified sports lol. Stop giving awards to the kids who don't win, moral or otherwise. There is a difference between sportsmanship (playing clean, shaking hands at the end, helping an injured player, etc.) and showing no mercy...but you shouldn't stop playing defense or stop playing just to not hurt feelings. Go at em and if you beat em by 100, so be it.

 

The only thing I agree with is coaching clearing their benches. If the bench continues to put up points, it is what it is. Losing team/player either needs to get better or find another hobby.

 

That being said, even though we lost by 60+, the NCAA needs to look at this. This is not good for the sport.

Look at what? They aren't doing anything illegal. Good for them...

 

 

See my previous post. Matching a SEVERELY overwhelmed #16 against THAT. Nothing to do with today's actual game, lack of mercy, running up the score, etc...just the concept of the bracket. It's terrible for the game...if their intent is to grow it.

IMO, Geno Auriemma didn't look at today as a game vs. UAlbany. I'd guess he saw it a preparation for the later rounds. He wanted his team focused and executing until the last whistle. Don't think he was trying to run up the score or discrespect UA - he just wanted his team to play a perfect game regardless of score. Not something that we as UA fans like but that's who he is and part of the reason they're so good.

There's no parity in women's basketball. You have a handful of exceptional players,

and they all want to play at uconn. Their coach is lucky there's not more elite players to go elsewhere.

I disagree. Against an overmatched and well beaten team you do not have players, subs or otherwise, chuck 3 after 3 in an obvious attempt to run up the score. I'd like to think there is still something called sportsmanship, but admittedly it's hard to find. Run clock, toss it inside, drive the lane. Don't toss 3s. Where's Bill Lambier when you need him?

As for uconn, they could have shown much more sportsmanship. They can go choke as far as I'm concerned.

UConn likely will enjoy another blowout Monday against Syracuse, which inevitably will raise the tired argument that it's making a mockery of the sport. The Huskies are doing just the opposite: They're setting an example for how to play the game at the highest level imaginable.

 

'That's what we want to become. That's what we need to be," Bernabei-McNamee said. "Then maybe we don't get a 16 seed next year.

"If that game doesn't fuel us to be the best version of ourselves we can be," she added, "then I don't know what does."

I understand that to an extent...but it's impossible (no offense to our girls or anyone else's). Geno is pretty much fielding the equivalent of the 1992 dream team and everyone else is like...Yugoslavia.........or something. DEFINITELY not helping the sport.

 

Either because all the good players wanna go there and win (which shows weak character IMO) or because there is only 20 good ball players nationally/in the world and Geno gets 15 of them and the other 5 go to like Baylor, Notre Dame, etc. Don't get me wrong, I understand wanting to go to a good program and a winning program with a nice culture. But when a team hasn't lost in 4 years and you're an incoming freshman coming in next year...you're just hopping on the bandwagon at that point. It's like Kevin Durant joining 3 other All Stars in Golden State. Unfortunately, unlike pro sports with salary caps, etc...there is no way to prevent one team from hoarding all of the best players in the NCAA's (men's or women's).

 

Anyway, we got our doors blown off. It is what it is.
