Recruiting - 2017

Recommended Posts

The only nonsense I posted was the possibility that no one would leave. In today's world that doesn't happen.

That said, I would think that the chances of someone leaving right before their senior year would be low unless they graduate and don't have to sit out a year.

That could mean Andrews? This was his second year at UA? Cochran would still be a sophomore, so he could be a likely transfer, and after red shirting I don't think he would have to sit out. Greyson is a candidate after losing PT, but I think he would have to sit a year.

We obviously can only speculate at this point who might leave. I'm hoping no one does, but if that happens the team is short a scholarship, and they are still extending offers.

The above said, if I was recruiting for the team right now, if be focusing on finding another big. From a guard/wing perspective this team should be strong for a while. Cremo, Nichols, and Campbell will be Juniors, Cochran will be a sophomore, and Healy will be a Freshman.

Yes the team has Hank and Lulka coming in, but they lose Rowley this year, and next year Stire, Charles, and Garcia all graduate. This leaves very little depth after next year.

I guess if Lands is awarded a redshirt, that could be a wildcard.

Anyway, it seems that all the offers we are seeing are for guards. This team should be as there.

Still have Stire, Charles, Martin-Garcia all returning as "bigs" with Devonte Campbell and Xavier Cochran returning as 6-6 swing players.

Brent Hank at 6'10" and Adam Lulka at 6'8" both already committed.

While, I'd hate to see Lands go, I think the team will have more depth from the bigs next year than we have had in recent memory.

This thread has had rumors of Lands, Andrews, Greyson, and TMG leaving: I'm not ready to believe any of it.

Anyone know anything about Xavier Cochran and how he is doing with his injury? He has been mentioned several times as the highest level recruit joining the team this year before his injury. Will he be back?

Is it guards or bigs the team should be going after? :)

Lol. 2 different comments. The one you quoted is in response to next year's team, while the post I made this morning is looking beyond next year. I think the team is beyond solid for 17-18 with the bigs. Losing Stire and Charles after next season will add some questions. That is what I was referencing today.

Again if Lands gets a red shirt and stays with the team, that is a different story.

Interesting name on the transfer list - Henry Caruso of Princeton. He's a red-shirt grad transfer so he would be available without sitting out. He was injured his senor year and the Ivy League doesn't allow 5th year players. Was a first-team Ivy League his junior year and a terrific shooter.

This is what I got so far...and my guess on who leaves to make room for 13 scholarships.

UAlbany Men's Roster 2017-2018

Name Position	Height	Weight	Year
Greig Stire C 6'7"	235	Sr.
Brent Hank C 6'10"	245	Fr.
Travis Charles PF 6'6"	235	RSr.
Jaraan Lands PF 6'7"	245	Jr.
Adam Lulka PF 6'8"	240	Fr.
Terrel Martin-Garcia	PF 6'6"	240	Sr.
Devonte Campbell	SF 6'6"	225	Jr.
Joe Cremo SG 6'4"	190	Jr.
Xavier Cochran SG 6'6"	195	So.
Marqueese Grayson	SG 6'2"	200	Sr.
David Nichols PG 6'1"	185	Jr.
Cam Healey PG 6'2"	185	Fr.
Costa Anderson PG 6'2"	200	Sr.
Nick Fruscio PG 5'10"	155	So.

Possible Signings	Position	Height	Weight	Year
Malik Maitland PG 5'11"	170	So.
Ahmad Clark PG 6'1"	170	So.

Possible Departures	Reason
Costa Anderson Odd man out w/ Cochran and Healey joining (if we sign one or both of above guys)
Marqueese Grayson	Odd man out w/ Cochran and Healey joining (if we sign one or both of above guys)
Terrel Martin-Garcia	Odd man out in power rotation and scholarship limit

Departures Reason
Mike Rowley Graduated
Dallas Ennema Graduated
Jamir Andrews Graduated/Grad School?

I have my main rotation as follows:

C - Stire
PF - Charles
SF - Campbell
SG - Cremo
PG - Nichols
6 - Cochran
7 - Lands
8 - Healey
9 - Lulka
10 - Hank

Don't think Brown would play more than 9-10 guys regularly...unless someone goes into massive foul trouble, specific games for certain game plans, etc.

Nice breakdown Eli. Some thoughts...

Maitland and Clark are just reported to have offers. I haven't seen anything reported that they may have signed. If you just mean offers..we also have offers out to three other guards..per Verbal Commits. Two of which are listed to have been offered after the start of the New Year.

Has it been confirmed that Lands will earn a medical redshirt? Only played in 5 games..but played in one on January 8th..about halfway through the season. I know there's a lot of specific rules for the medical redshirt..many of which seem fungible though.

Has it been confirmed that Andrews will not be back? I'd agree that seems the most likely..especially because he was/is a senior this year..but it's still only 'possible'..at least in my mind..because he would seem to have a year of eligibility left.

I'd be pretty surprised if Anderson transferred. Saw the court in each of the last 18 games..including 7 double digit minute games. Healy and Cochran will be coming in..but both will be first year DI players..and Ennema's graduation opens up at least some minutes in the backcourt.
