#106384 2017-18 Season

Posted by S-money on 08 February 2018 - 06:43 PM

Today we were driving through NC on I-40 and passed the exit for Durham and Chapel Hill. Sort of like I-90 and the Albany or Loudonville exit....sort of...maybe....just a little. And our hotel has ESPNU!!

Ha! Ive lived in both places. While the significance of the I-40 exit was obvious, the I-90 thing never occurred to me in 8 years in the Capital District.

They would need the express written consent of Major League Baseball.

#104707 [MBB] Game #14: 12/20/17 - 9:00pm - @ Louisville

Does a close loss do anything for RPI, or a loss is a loss?

#104426 [MBB] Game #12: 12/12/17 - 9:00pm - @ Memphis

Posted by S-money on 13 December 2017 - 10:33 PM

I wanted us to get a signature win as much as anyone else and thought we had a good chance of doing so, but I do look at this as a good learning experience:

1) Seemed like Memphis played a lot of full and half court pressure D, with which we have struggled in the past. Good test for the guys.
2) Experienced the consequences of being careless with the ball, as well as heaving up bad shots.
3) Some confidence built from the comeback to tie up the game despite being down by double digits and not playing well.

I feel like this might make the most valuable game film of the season and hopefully helps the team learn and improve as they head into AE play.

#98546 @ Vermont - AE Tourney 2017 Championship - 3/11 - 11AM on ESPN2

Honestly, don't care.  Just win.  That's all that matters.  Don't care if we are in the PIG.  People (cough, Siena fans) parse words: THE PIG is an NCAA sponsored March Madness event.  In any strict review, it's a tournament game.

Right...this is all gravy. How many of us had this team after graduating what we did in the finals?
Just fine some way to win, by hook or by crook.

Or Brook (sorry, couldn't resist).

The more I see us this year, the more I'm reminded of the 04-05 team (the first year we had a full roster and the year before the championship year.) It has a lot of talent but a young backcourt that struggles to close out games and doesn't hold focus for the full 40 minutes.

You know best DP, and I haven't seen this year's team much. But from my recollection of 04-05 and reading the accounts this year, 04-05 had a lot of heart but were very raw and couldn't always close the deal on offense whereas this year's team wilts on defense and just doesn't seem to even want to be playing at times.

Guys like Jamar, Levi and Iati had hearts of lions while we're struggling to see the same thing in this year's so-called leaders. Am I off base and overly pessimistic here? In 2005, we knew the program was on the rise and was going to kick ass the next year. This team - not so sure they've got the heart.

#96047 Albany (3-2) - Albany Cup 2016 - Sun 11/27 @ 7PM

LOL @ the bolded text.

We don't have pressure? We STILL don't belong after owning them in BB for 5 of the last 7 years and being 1000x better in all other sports? We wish we were them?

WE ARE THEM. They are the step child now lol. As for as Albany, NY sports go...the team with "Albany" in their actual name is the king of the castle.

HJ, along with OldDave, are some of the most hilarious posters on that board. Tools to the max.

I have never once, EVER, wished our program was like Siena's.  Just a dumb statement.  He is right about a couple things though.  They are 6 games into the season and banged up.  Their fans need to relax.
I only wished we played in a big arena as I'm a sucker for the environment (the NBA is my first sports love). That is all. But, I'd rather play in a 4,000 seat facility at 75% capacity that, according to people like HJ, is '$iena' than play in a 15k arena like the TUC with 75% of it empty or bagged up.

I love our 4,500 seat gym that rocks at even 75% capacity and has the darkest men's room in the America East

I love our long tenured coach who is likely to stay and win hundreds of games for UA

I love our large school with a concrete campus that will endure rather than eventually be threatened with closing down due to decreasing enrollment

I love our mostly good natured fans that keep it real

Would I like to win a round of 64 game or more someday? Sure, but I like where we are and where we're hopefully headed.

I'm so happy Will Brown is our coach. I wouldn't be able to handle a coach like Patsos coaching UA. The guy acts like a total ass.

Agreed.  People who DON'T LIKE Will are those who don't like someone who doesn't give B.S. soundbites.  Sure, early in his career he may have been a bit arrogant...but he has grown as a Coach and a person.  Love what he brings to our program.  We've been very lucky to catch two unbelievable stats in Doc Sauers and Will Brown.  Not many schools are this lucky.
Patso is an asshat...and has been in every place he's coached.
I remember seeing him coach for Loyola, I think it was at Mohegan against UA but I'm not sure, and thinking he was a total nutjob. Why would any school want a guy like that to coach their team?  He reminds me of the old UMBC crazy coach. I forget his name right now. Just yelling at everything, stomping around and overall acting like an idiot.

I could never forget the name of Mr. Anger Management himself, Randy Monroe. He was pure entertainment - I recall more than a few giggles at his expense. Last I heard, he was coaching high school, which is a scary thought.

Anyway, great win tonight. I hope this gave the AD some backbone for the next series negotiation, which shouldn't even be a negotiation. Home and home starting at our place or $iena can go fly a kite, though I see them being more protective of themselves than the intensity and variety of the series.

#89704 Bing 1/18

Posted by S-money on 18 January 2016 - 07:17 PM

From the radio show, expect Bing to sit in a 2-3 zone the whole game.
Coach also hopes to work on getting a charter flight to Maine next year (the commercial jets to Bangor are so small they won't allow reservations for as many as in the team travel party)

So how many are in Albany's travel party?......they won't fit on this American Airlines plane?
I see 64 seats available not including first class.
You need to realize something...we are Albany, 3 time defending champs. We will charter, like Duke!

Shewt - let's just buy our own plane

Drop the championship banners down a bit and make them sit behind them with an obstructed view.

Given how poorly we played as a group, I'm actually fine with losing - provides a wake-up call and hopefully provokes the realization that we can't just walk through the games missing all those FTs and shots just because we're three-time conference champions.

We will indeed be okay when it counts, but hopefully we can turn the corner sooner rather than later.

Just a few thoughts...
Charles is tough as nails. A type of player I don't think UA has ever had. Won't back down from anyone (Poythress).

Ummmm....LEVI LEVINE?  Toughest S.O.B. to ever don a DI UALBANY jersey.  I like Charles from the little I know / seen of him, and he comes from my neighborhood back in Brooklyn, which is as tough as it gets.  But Levi is a whole other level.  I would not want to piss off Levi and then end up in an alley with him.

Recall Levi's knife story in Europe...

Just wanted to inform you all that a couple of nights ago, I dreamt that I was explaining to someone how UA won four AEast titles in a row.

I'm not saying I'm clairvoyant, I'm just sayin'.
