Nothing like winning two games, one over #11 and dropping in the polls.

 

Not surprising..unfortunately. If I'm a voter..I want to bump Ohio State up a couple spots for knocking off the #2 team. But..Maryland beat Albany at Albany..so I can't put Maryland below them. Which means Albany..and Notre Dame in the media poll..get knocked down a spot or two..despite both earning Top 20 wins this week.

 

But bumping down Albany two spots..now below Notre Dame..in the coaches poll is a bit odd. Danes win two..against #11 and RV. Notre Dame wins one against #16.

The USILA poll comes out Mondays usually after 3pm. The poll you see is from 4/17 where we are #5. May drop a spot due to Ohio St. Check in the next hour for updated poll.

Didn't even notice the date... thought they all came out in the morning.

ND beat Maryland by 1 goal earlier... wonder if that has something to do with bumping them past UA

with their 7-3 record.

What's bothering is how the selection committee seems to be at odds with all of the polls, and rpi.

Maybe they should just let IL decide the bracket...

6th in the Nike/USILA poll, 7th in the Media poll, flipping with Notre Dame. Ohio St, went up 4 and 5 spots in one week

 

Still second in the Massey Rating.

Last year the selection committee seemed to follow the RPI to a fault which is why a lot of people had heartburn over Marquette getting a home game Andy the 6th seed.

 

This year RPI doesn't seem to be carrying as much weight in the polls or by the committee which I don't think is necessarily a bad thing. The RPI Iis flawed in a lot of ways so I would rather see the committee have a bit of a subject component. As long as the AE is a weaker overall conference Albany is going to benefit more times then not from the eye test and subjective measures than blindly following the RPI, but it may hurt the Danes this year.

As for the pre-selection by THE COMMITTEE...

 

Hopkins at 6..... very questionable.

PSU at 7..... very questionable.

 

Towson at 8..... a joke.

A mid May home game for Albany can draw 5-6k in my opinion. Hopefully we take care of our part and the committee realizes that.

We had just about 3k vs Loyola in 2007... and that was at JFF without the permanent bleachers.

I can imagine if we get the 1st round game, we'd hit the 5-6k range at the stadium.

 

BTW...Merrick Thomson had five goals and an assist in that game.

To that point, our current average attendance of 1,749 is twelfth, and two teams ahead of us (St. Joseph's and North Carolina) almost surely won't be in the tournament.
