Court/Naming Rights

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know when SEFCU comes up for renewal? I thought it was 2017.

Also, how come they've never named the court Doc Sauers Court, the same way they did Bob Ford Field (like the actual playing surface)?

Seems to me to be a no-brainer, unless they're holding it for Will when he retires...

$$

Going to go to the highest bidder. Naming it after a coach gets them no $ if there is someone willing to name the court and/or venue.

I don't mean naming the facility after him, but just the actual court. Like Bob Ford Field at Casey Stadium, where I BELIEVE only the Caseys ponied up? Or did someone cough up some dough to name the field after Coach Ford as well.

Albany was the birthplace of some huge companies like American Express and GE. Too bad they're all gone. They have the money for big dollar naming rights.

"XYZ Government Union Arena"? I can't remember the alphabet soup of those things. It's not a New York acronym if it doesn't have at least 5 letters and get phonetically sounded out. NYSTERS for example. You can be sure no one from outside New York would even guess how to pronounce it.

GE was founded in Schenectady, AMex in Buffalo.

Yeah, but Albany should've capitalized on its most civilizing invention:

Seth Wheeler of Albany, New York, obtained the earliest United States patents for toilet paper and dispensers (Wikipedia)
