#106865 Coach Bassett

Forgot to post this earlier. Nice column on naming the court for Coach Bassett. Wyland had a good segment with Coach Brown on it also - https://www.timesuni...se-12626288.php

Ordinarily, I'd have a rant about how spoiled we are to be complaining about how unsatisfying NCAA tournament appearances and 20-win seasons are but I suspect you guys are just trying to irritate any Bing fans who might be reading our board.

BTW, a bunch of us were at our most recent NCAA tournament game against Oklahoma. Buddy Hield played right to the end and it was a six point game with a minute left.

Also, for anyone who doesn't watch the basketball weekly show there are interviews with Hank and Lulka. They talk about how it will become "their team" in a few years. Good stuff.

Food for thought guys: do we go smaller rest of the way by benching Campbell and starting a hot Anderson?

Not against UMBC. Devonte has done a pretty good job on Lyles in the past and I don't see a reason to change.

I have another conflict today so I'll be watching late

Not sure what you have planned but you really need to recalibrate your priorities.

#106579 New Board Headline

I have zero intention of stepping on DP's toes. Whether DP uses my photoshop creations is ENTIRELY up to him. Again, it HIS site so it's HIS rules.

The reason why I bumped this thread: I just noticed that out of the blue he changed the banner to one I had created some time ago but I noticed it didn't look right so I decided to update it.

No offense taken at all. New banner is up! Thanks for creating it.

#106446 [MBB] Game #26: 2/8/18 - 7PM - vs Vermont

I just refuse to believe vt is really a better basketball team than UA.

Even without Lamb, they have a better frontcourt. Charles and Stire have played really well but Henson and Urqhart are bigger, more athletic and have better range. They can inhibit our low post play one-on-one while we have to take extra measures to control theirs. It puts a lot of pressure on our guards to score when we're not able to get easy baskets inside.

Watched some of the replay of the second half this morning. When we were up 10 there were a couple of sketchy plays on defense that incensed most of Sefcu:

Urqhart had a touch foul on a layup to make it an "and 1."

Clark got called for a blocking foul.

TBH collided with Cremo under the rim. Cremo got called for the block.

Evertt Duncan battled with Cremo for a rebound and Cremo got called for a foul.

Dslyank mentioned that the refs got into our head and those series of plays were where it looked like it happened. We looked afraid to defend for the next couple of minutes. Cremo especially was reluctant to pick up another foul after two quick ones. It didn't help that we had some bad offensive sets during that time.

A lot of the VT guards back door cuts are the result of Urqhart and Henson being able to hit threes. We can't just let them stand out there with the ball because they can hit those shots and it creates space under the hoop.

Just once, when Devonte is wide open at the three point line, I'd love to see him go "Gary Johnson" and take two dribbles, then two steps and attack the rim and see what happens. I did like that he took more of mid-range jump shots last night.

#106443 [MBB] Game #27: 2/11/18 - 2PM - @ Hartford

Posted by Dane Pound on 09 February 2018 - 12:10 PM

Good thing is at this part of the season we generally have 3-4 days between games.

True, but Hartford has had over a week to prepare for us. They haven't played since last Saturday.

Officiating was surreal. I don't know any other way to put it.

Tough decision with Foster late in the game. He was a difference maker on defense for big stretches and I would have like to see him in late.

For impartial viewers on ESPNU, that was probably a great game to watch.

Not really worried about a Vermont rematch. I'm hoping this team can refocus on Hartford on Sunday. That was an emotional, draining loss and they only have a few days to put it behind them.

#106242 [MBB] Game #25: 2/3/18 - 7PM - vs New Hampshire (BPG & FF)

A week off and hopefully a team reset in terms of health, etc. Still alive for the #2 seed if we can play at a high level for multiple games. This would be a great way to start.

#106180 OT: What a waste of $85 Million dollars at UMBC

If it doesn't have those high-speed Dyson AB14-G Airblade PolycarbonateHand Dryers in the restrooms then they way overpaid.

At least it has chairbacks.

Above is the story of the medical situation from last night's game. The guy went into cardiac arrest and survived

Glad to hear he's doing well. In an odd way, it's probably a good place for it to happen if it had to with all the medical staff around.

Just so it gets mentioned.

Greig Stire went 6-9 from the floor. He led us in points, rebounds, assists and steals.

Ball game. Blocking foul that looked like a charge to me.

Not really sure how that wasn't a charge. Not sure how he could have been more set. It was the lucky 3 at the end of the shot clock that ended the game.

I think that sequence went:

Down 2 with Nichols going to line - missed free throw.

On the other end, steal by Nichols, recovered by Duncan and then the duck-under three - down 5

Cremo to the line and misses - that's as close as we get.
