This is great and should be approved. It means enterprise has taken note of our expansion and is willing to bet on it continuing.

Private housing is a great alternative and should relieve some of the pressure to keep expanding on campus.

The same concept should be applied to the student ghetto. Raze all those derelict buildings and replace with a massive housing/retail/commercial development, similar to Atlantic Station in Atlanta.

They should do the same thing with a parking garage. Let a private developer build it and front the costs but the developer keeps the parking fees up to a cap.

Half of UA is covered in parking lots for god sakes. It's funny to see warm weather campuses in Atlanta and San Diego have covered parking garages and snowy Albany has black top .

Albany Med is doing the same with the south end now.

I know, they've already torn down the bar where I met my bride many years ago.

You mean "the south end of the student ghetto", right? I'm not impressed by the soulless architecture of what they've already "developed" further up New Scotland Ave.

Edit: their developer is now asking for almost $30M in more tax breaks http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/Multimillion-dollar-breaks-sought-for-Park-South-5714268.php#photo-6758353

  • 1 month later...

Will they only rent to UA students only?

From the article: Luntta said the school is not involved in the projects and has no agreements with Columbia to use the dorm.

"We wish them the best of luck in their project," Luntta said, "but there are no plans to enter into any kinds of contracts."

Maybe to CNSE, or to St. Rose if we decide we want Brubacher Hall back.
