I don't know enough about lax to comment, but I had the same feeling in the second half that I did during the collapse the basketball team had at SBU this year. Albany seemed to be content and was playing not to lose. Trying to run the clock instead of keeping the plan and attacking the goal.

That said, amazing game, amazing crowd braving the rain, and a huge win.

3 more to go!

We knew UNC would make a run after the way the rallied last year and in the ACC tournament this year. I just wasn't expecting a nine goal run!

The big adjustment UNC made was double poling the face off and Kelly started winning a few.

Balkham was put back in and made a few really nice saves and we caught a few pipes.

The two things that were inexcusable IMO were letting Long poles run straight to the goal and leaving Cloutier.

I fully expected UNC to come out in the 2nd half and fight and claw. Their athleticism and size became a big problem. Never did I expect UA to go cold for that long. You could see them sort of tighten up during the onslaught, but then they righted the ship and the D got stout. 14-3 was an embarrassing first half for them and as defending champs and ACC champs they must have been truly inspired at halftime. Great adjustments by UNC and they have the horses to carry it out. But on to Maryland or Bryant...could be a fun game today.

Finally dried out and watched the game.

Hard to be complain when Albany beats what many considered the hottest team in the tournament and defending champs, but a few nit picks after watching and to work on before the quarters.

1) how to attack the 10 man ride

2) tough when a shorty can lock down one of your attack guys

3) Wing play has been hot and cold all year.

4) have to find a gear between all out and totally pumping the brakes.

Gazette has a 1/2 page picture on page of sports, plus 4 moth pics on 3/4 of an interior page. For all the talk about what UA didn't do in the second half, I'm just as puzzled by UNC not making the adjustments earlier as UA was using their goal for target practice. I don't know much about the technical aspects of Lax, but it seems they could have changed things.

Not much to add. The summaries (especially alum72, Danes96 & Fan2018, & others) were spot on. I will add that Scott Marr called time out with 10:12 left and we absolutely stemmed the tied @ that point. I was right above the bench and saw no panic from the coaching staff or team. Obviously, I could not hear what the staff was saying, but the result was effective. Shutting down NC's come back attempt & winning the last 10:12 minutes 1 to 0. I do not know why, but NC the past two years seems to be a team that has to be down, before they get going. They have had numerous come from behind wins and both years had to come out of oblivion to win their league to get to the ncaa's.

AWESOME GAME. The crowd was wet but no one seemed to mind--just having fun--enjoying the competition.

Thank you to UAalum72 for posting a link to a collection of Times Union photos from last night ... I was afraid that they might have had only one picture from the game ... UA defeats an ACC power in the NCAA Tournament and the front page of the TU sports section features a marquis photo of Cloutier scoring for North Carolina ... are you kidding me? ... head scratcher

If the other team's wings are attacking the FO, would it be too much to use two long poles for our wings? Or is there a rule for the number of long sticks, or would it hurt the transition game Marr likes to play?

No right answer.

Usually you will see a team go two long poles on the wing if they can't win the draw.

In our case IMO it is more about protecting TD when he doesn't win it quickly to himself. You don't need to do that with poles. Osika and McClancy as well as Zellen are big and strong enough to box out bigger ACC and Big10 bodies. While Reh is great off the ground he and Lasda can get pushed around a bit.

The way TD wins the ball cleanly you'll actually see some teams go with 2 short sticks for even more offensive punch.

Haven't read any of the replies on the board yet but we played a hell of a first half. I think we let down and started playing a little clock ball instead of full out attacking. I would totally disagree with anything negative against ierlan. Let us not forget we defeated the defending national champions. We put a halt to their Surge and took over the last half of the fourth quarter. It's a good playoff lesson for next weekend

Reaction to this this seems as split as the halftime efforts. I agree that the face-off problem was not TD but the others joining the scrum - but moreover Albany could not clear the ball in many ways. Intercepted passes, lax (not LAX) passing and an overall poor performance in the second half. It seems as if upcoming opponents now have a blueprint on how to beat Albany. Certainly shakes my confidence.
