Will Brown

Recommended Posts

I'll believe Hooley is back when I see him on the roster to start next season. Weird things happen with 5th year seniors. No one really saw Aronhalt leaving, but he did. Call me crazy, but if he wants to really get into journalism and communications for a future career he could look to head to Syracuse for his masters. It's an insane thought. I know lol.

Syracuse has hurt this school enough, not just athletically but because they went into the vacuum that Cornell, Rockefeller, and many others in-between created by seeing public colleges (and athletics at them) as unnecessary.

Why do I have a sinking feeling that as much as Syracuse fans deny it that they'd kill to get Brown to be Boeheim's replacement?

FWIW Brown and Benson had lunch at ATSP today. A third guy was with them that I didn't get close enough to recognize.I've seen Will at the Pub often with the coaching staff, but not Benson.

But did you see who picked up the tab?

Delaware News Journal is reporting that Coach Brown is a candidate for the open Delaware position. Would be a bump-up to the CAA.

Why Benson hasn't already locked him up is kind of mind-boggling..just invites this type of stuff..whether it be on Delaware's end or on Brown's end.

Hopefully the ATSP lunch this week was about this/a new contract.

Delaware has income tax.

If they let Brown go and they slum around the cesspool known as the AE I will lose all faith in Benson and the entire SUNY system. If the state could get out of the higher education business and outsource operations to a Cuse/Cornell joint venture they so would.

Thought it was both. Maybe it was property tax that I mixed up.

If, and this is a big IF, Brown leaves because Benson cannot get him to sign a contract extension that would be a terrible move in his 2nd (or is it 3rd) year. It would cause many fans to lose confidence in him. This really cannot happen.

Yeah, many of us would have HUGE issue with Benson if he had the chance to keep Brown and passed on it. To the point that I think he wouldn't be here much longer after such a situation happening.

Could it be that Brown sees that it is going to take a long time to get a new arena and/or move out of the America East (not that I think we should right now) and wants to either be paid more than Benson can or is willing to give him or he thinks it's time to try to move up himself? All of this is pure speculation and maybe they are getting close to a deal but not having an extension after all these championships and winning seasons is very odd.

When Benson was hired, my first questions were: (a) purely a business guy without a resume anchored in athletics?, and (B) why leave a school which was/is on an upward trajectory (granted, he had a lot to with that) just as it moved into a FBS conference? Maybe his approach is too much about the "business" and not enough about recognizing (or admitting) what WB has meant to this University in numbers of ways . . . in MBB on-court success, certainly, but also what he has meant to his players regarding their educations, their futures, and their welfare; and what he has meant in the community. Remember the circumstances under which Brown got this job in the first place? And compare that to where we have been in recent years . . . geez, treat the coach with some respect, wouldn't that be "good business" and earn some goodwill (sorry for the pun) from insiders and outsiders? Or is it about the guy in charge (of athletics, anyway) showing the employees and supporters exactly who's boss?

Looks like Coach Boals' deal at Stony Brook is at a base salary of $365k/yr..according to Big Apple Buckets. Coach Brown's base is $295k/yr. Both deals include a number of bonus scenarios.

Boal's deal plus Coach Mac's contract seem to put some upward pressure on anything Benson might offer Coach Brown. Especially when you consider the success he's led the team to under the current deal.
