  1. You guys are having fun now, but wait until this happens to your school. I hope our fans don't wish the ill will I've seen your fans display. JG
  2. I see your point about the irony. I see Patch's points too except for the derogatory Siena comment. However, perhaps you can take the "compliments" at face value instead of trying to incite a negative connatation. Just a thought. The more you win the more compliments you will get, so you might as well get used to them. JG
  3. What are you talking about? I made at least three posts over there on how Albany is dragging down the appeal of our OOC schedule. :-) JG
  4. Patch - to answer your questions: 1) Yes. The only requirements are that only one team from each conference can play in an exempt event, and the same team can not play in the same event more than once in four years. This is one reason why the conferences host the tourneys -- it's the only chance they can keep the event going from year to year. 2). You are correct, in your team's case your RPI was hurt more by your in conference teams than your games against the biggies, but there is not much you can do about that in the short run. In fact, it may be one reason why the schedule was made -- to balance out the RPI Strength of Schedule. However, what I am saying is that your RPI may have been helped more if you replaced two out of three of the games scheduled against the top 50 with a few more quality but winnable away games, for example teams ranked 50-150 and won them. This is because the NCAA puts a premium on winning away games. The key is if you schedule that way you have to win the games (hence Siena's RPI). Now, if you were to win the away games against the top 50, that would be the ultimate - but I think we can agree that it would be tough to win 2 out 3 games in that scenario. JG
  5. I will try to answer a few of your questions. The reason why this tournament is considered a MAAC event is that all exempt tournaments are sponsored by conferences, not individual teams. In regards to your scheduling questions, it is not very hard to schedule major division I teams in their building, especially if you are a newer D1 program. Because home teams win 70% of the time in college basketball, many of those types of teams schedule games against teams they percieve they can easily beat to build their win total before their more rigorous conference schedule. It's also not to your advantage to schedule very many of these types of games in one season. For example, had your team scheduled more "winnable" games against quality teams from mid major conferences, your team probably would have had a better RPI and a better seed in the NCAAs. Now that your team has had a successful season, you may find it harder to schedule these games or you may want to move away from that scheduling policy and try to build on RPI for postseason considerations.
  6. To answer your question, editors write the headlines and I agree it was a poor one. Personally I've never been a big fan of this tournament, for the simple reason that there is little incentive for teams to participate if schedules have already been made. Apparantly Albany falls into this category. Unless a miracle happened, there was no way that 8 different conferences would be able to commit their top teams to the tourney. So what is left but a conglomerate of teams that doesn't make sense. It was a good idea that came too late due to the NCAA's tardiness in finalizing the rule on allowing the extra exempt tournaments and games. It is too bad that Siena could not have been involved in the tourney next year with better teams due to their participation in the NIT. Perhaps Ualbany can next year (at a different arena) if better teams commit. JG
  7. And everyone on this board would be lying to themselves if they didn't enjoy a little bit of the bickering. I know personally it gives me something to break up the regular routines I go through. There are sometimes that I wish Sienna T and the whole Siena crowd would disappear but as they will learn on the Siena board now that Soup is gone, life without conflict is not life it is just boring!! So in a way, thanks to the Siena fans for keeping things interesting!! 14523[/snapback] I think that if you were to check the Siena board you would find that there is far less disparaging comments about Albany over there than there is about Siena on this board. A prime example exists in this thread and in the MAAC tourney thread, such as "loundonville community College" or "Sienna" or sarcastically referring to the "gala event". Personally it's hard to take posters seriously when that happens. Enjoy your offseason, and see you at the "Challenge".
  8. Hey, who's spinning anything, I'm referring to UAlum and now Patch who said that they just want to build leverage to "walk away". And I see no one bothered to respond to my question: If you had the arena as your home base would you give it up to be the away team in a game? I think not, just admit it. You are getting a great deal being able to play in front of that many fans each year, just enjoy it. And don't think that we can't get other programs to come to the Pepsi and draw 10K, because we can and have done so in the past. So, it won't be a big deal to us if it's not worth it to you. A 2 for 1 deal, you can't be serious. You guys have vast resources, why don't you just build your own on campus arena. Playing at the Pepsi isn't all its cracked up to be according to some of our own fans. If you had a bigger gym you could easily draw more than Siena and your program could better position itself for a possible Big East invite once conference re-alignment comes along. Just a suggestion. JG
  9. Hey, if you guys don't want to play us, walk away. Personally, (and I am probably in the minority) as a Siena season ticket holder I would rather play a different team every year rather than have one of our 4 or 5 non conference home games always be UAlbany, or any other team for that matter. At least you guys get to see one more game in your home area as the away team in the series. I hope Tony is right as I would rather see the series end then have to be the away team in my home arena. I doubt you would agree to such a scenario if the situation was in reverse. JG
  10. Some may know I'm not your biggest fan, but congratulations on your regular season title. Have fun in the postseason, whereever you end up. JG
