  1. AO: I do think Bing is on a roll and playing before a packed house at home will certainly make a difference. That said, in the second half of the season, we've seen two very different Bearcat teams -- the one that rolled off five straight victories and a convincing upset of BU earlier today, and the one that lost to Stony Brook and Hartford, two struggling programs. At the end of the day, I like Bing's chances, but I also think if the refs call a tight game and Bing's shooters don't come out hot, Bing could struggle. To me, the key for Albany is to come out with lots of energy, match Bing's defensive intensity, and make shots. In the first match-up between the two, Albany showed that they can score points in a hurry and their come from behind victory was as real confidence-booster for their younger players. In the second match-up, however, Bing's fast start really stunned the Danes, and they never really found a rhythm. To me, the Danes need to avoid falling behind early and to stay confident. If they can turn the game into a shooting match, I think they may have the advantage. The upside for the Danes, of course, is that they've already played the "good" Binghamton team once, in Binghamton, before a very raucous crowd, so they now know what to expect in this Saturday's game. Hopefully (for you, not for me), they'll use that experience to their advantage. Either way, I expect it'll be a great game, a great atmosphere, and another great chapter in a pretty decent and pretty long-standing rivalry. I hope to see a bunch of you Dane fans -- though not too many -- at the game. Oh, and in case I didn't make it clear, I am jealous that you guys have such a great message board. I hope you don't mind the occasional post from an envious Bearcat fan.
  2. Dane: Relax! Even though Binghamton has sold 1,500 all-session passes, that means that there will still be 4,000 individual seats available for every game (some of which I believe were allocated to the individual schools) once individual seats go on sale this week. I wouldn't wait until the weekend to try and buy an individual seat for the Bing-Albany game, but you shouldn't have any trouble getting a ticket if you call tomorrow. Individual tickets go on sale at 9am. 607-777-SLAM. Looking forward to seeing a lot of you Dane fans in Vestal this Saturday. Should be a great game!
  3. Dane: I believe you answered your own question. If both Maine and Bing lose next week and Stony Brook wins, Maine gets the 5th seed due to their win against NU. Bing then gets the 6th seed over Stony Brook, though I'm not sure why.
  4. GD84: Actually, all three SUNYs were 2-2 against each other, so it was actually a draw across the board. As for giving Albany the nod based on total wins, that wouldn't take into account the fact that Albany easily had the weakest schedule of the three. Seriously, I'd love to see a SUNY Centers Tourny, too, but I don't think Buffalo would ever participate, as they would view doing so as admitting that the other SUNYs were just as good as they were -- something they are loathe to admit.
  5. Patch: Your comments are completely consistent with what I've heard from the Binghamton staff. I'm afraid the only realistic option for Albany is going to be what Binghamton has done over the past couple of years, and that's to go on the road. It's definitely tough on the team (to play so many tough games on the road), but it will help your RPI. The good news is that both Albany and Binghamton can count on a relatively short drive to Syracuse every year for at least one decent OOC game, which certainly helps our RPI and our reputations in our respective local communities. That said, I agree that improving our collective RPIs should be a big priority for our programs. Only by imroving the quality of our competition will we improve the league's stature and that of our individual programs. Not to take anything away from the success of Vermont, BU and NU this season, but I'd argue that the collective improvement in the league's OOC SOS has had as much to do with the league's improved standing this season as anything. If you look at the RPI for the league, you'll see that no team has an RPI below 300 this year (for the first time since the SUNYs joined), half the league's teams have RPIs below 200, and 7 out of the 10 have SOSs below 200. Those numbers are why Vermont, BU and NU can maintain RPIs in the top 100 even after playing their conference schedules. As for Buffalo, I know from having asked folks at Binghamton about them that they have zero interest in playing the other SUNY Centers, primarily because they feel they are superior to us and, thus, have nothing to gain from playing us. It's too bad, because, as a bunch of us discussed on the AE board a while back, it'd be great for the State of New York if we could set up some sort of tournament involving the four University Centers. Lastly, I'm with you Oldtimer -- I don't get the obsession with Hofstra. I'd just as soon see Bing play UMass or URI, or one of the more competitive Ivy League programs like Penn or Princeton before Hofstra, but I'm not sure how realistic it would be to schedule any of those teams.
  6. Fair enough -- but I have a feeling they might start sounding louder after you play Vermont and we play UMBC on Wednesday night . . . . Seriously -- I don't expect Bing to catch Albany in the standings. Realistically, the Bearcats will have to play great just in order to finish out the season at 3-1, but that's not even a gimme, since we've always had some trouble winning at Hartford. To finish 4-0, we'd need to beat BU, which, even at home, is going to be pretty tough. As for the Danes, it's probably most reasonable to expect you guys to finish out 2-2 (with losses to NU and Vermont), which means you'll still have a game on us in the standings. Granted, of course, you stand as good a chance as anyone of upsetting either Vermont or NU, so a 3-1 finish is not completely out of the question. Then again, as Statefan pointed out earlier, it's probably all a moot point anyhow, since, save for bragging rights, the difference between the 4 and 5 seed will be meaningless. Bing will have home-court advantage either way. So, I guess it'll all come down to how each team plays in Events Center on Saturday, March 5th. Should be a great game. See you all in Vestal!
  7. Binghamton beat New Hampshire. With the win, Binghamton moves into fifth place. (Bing wins the tie breaker against Maine thanks to its sweep of the season series against the Black Bears.) Don't look now, Dane Fans! That growling you hear coming up behind you is a big, bad Bearcat!
  8. The real question, then, is which team will be the fourth seed?!
  9. Hey everyone. I hope you don't mind a post or two from the "opposition". It's great to see Albany and Bing playing a meaningful game for a change. This should be one of the best rivalries in the AE now and for years to come. As for the game, it definitely sounds like Bing got off to a great start, though by no means do I think the game is out of reach for Albany. I'm guessing Albany came out a bit stiff, given the importance of the game -- this may be the biggest game of the year for the Danes. Also, it sounds like a great (and really loud) crowd at the Events Center -- obviously not the best environment for a visiting team. Should be interesting to see how the Danes look after the break. I'm betting they'll be much looser in the second half. Also, Bing needs to be concened about foul trouble for their big men. I don't like our odds if it comes down to our guards versus yours in the final five minutes. Your guys can shoot the lights out when they get hot We'll see . . . . 34-16 Bing at the half.
