Just wanted to start a new topic to handle this and get it out of the HC thread. I had a long phone call from a member of the athletic department staff. Anyone

affected who called or emailed regarding the stadium seat fiasco should be getting a call. The solution is probably as good as I/we are going to get, but something

tells me this isn't over. I don't want to get into it until they've had a chance to contact everyone, then we can kick it around. There will be an email going out to

everyone regarding new stadium security rules. Let's just say that the explanation of what happened Saturday and what has happened over the last 4 years with regards to the seats

appears to be a massive screwup. There's a term for it in the military but I'll keep this post family friendly. So anyway, I know what is going to happen this coming Saturday night.

OK, here's a hint: Eli won't be able to try out my "official as sold at the stadium store for stadium use" UA chair.

lol. Dang nabbit!

So, by the sound of that, they are sticking to the policy guns blazing...as Click said, there better be some give and take here...if it's all give, yeah, my donations (as you've stated you donate) would stop IMMEDIATELY.

In a nutshell, the explanation was that the stadium seats were never allowed, but the policy was not enforced. No explanation was given as to the reason why the university profited by selling a banned product in the store in the stadium and on line. Then the change in policy this year was not communicated and the decision made by someone who just started at the university in 2016 and apparently did not acquaint himself enough to what had been going on in the years prior to his arrival. Yes. Click, the basic remedy offered was free seats for the rest of 2016 and then decisions to be made going forward. It was mentioned that it was free seats for season ticket holders, but just because a fan is not a season ticket holder does not mean that the fan did not purchase a seat at the stadium store or on line. I would think most reasonable people who purchased (not inexpensive) seats from the university's own store in the stadium would expect that they be allowed in the stadium. And I think most reasonable people who bought these seats sold under questionable circumstances would expect the university to buy them back. No such offer was made. Because no remedy was offered past 2016 and no offer is made to buy them back, I don't think this is over. I can live with the remedy, but I am not sure how it will go over with the rest of the folks. So like I said, a cluster%$#! . Its a wonder we're not watching football in a 400' long quonset hut with an ice rink inside. Do you suppose I should tell them that on their fan page, the Dane game day information is for 2015? Naaaah. They get paid for getting stuff right, not me.

So any future donations from me will reflect additional fees for chair rentals that I should not have to be paying. So as far as I'm concerned it will be revenue neutral.

I did a small sample of big time program rules regarding prohibited items at stadiums. Seems to run the gamut from portable seatbacks OK as long as they are not too wide and have no arms (LSU) to

no way (The Ohio State University). Ohio State pretty much allows nothing in the stadium other than a shoulder bag big enough to carry your wallet and some Tic Tacs. I suspect that UA (due to newly imposed

security restrictions) may go to a small bag/clear bag policy. Let's hope they get the info out before Saturday to avoid another fan infuriating catastrophe.

OSU made a major policy change this year due to security reasons and pretty much limits anyone taking in more than just a very small purse, unless you have something from a doctor or stuff for a small child. In past years I've routinely have taken in a padded seatback (no frame type) without a problem. Again, for OSU it's more a security and safety issue than anything else.

Rules and regs for the Shoe were clearly posted and ticket holders are informed of the updates well in advance of the season so everyone will know what to expect for the entire season.

To follow up on Jimbo's in a nutshell: The reason I was given to stadium seats not allowed is that angry fans can throw them on the field. When I asked what is the difference if I throw my seat on the field or UA's seat on the field--here it comes: they will supposedly be bolting the UA stadium seats to your bleacher location. The problem I see with this, is what about the casual fan who comes to the game and is willing to pay his $5 for a stadium game day seat. Boom an unbolted projectile and I am defenseless since my weapon is screwed into the bleachers. Which brings me to a second point. This Saturday I am going to the game with a group of 6 or 7 friends. The ticket price in my season area is too expensive so we will be sitting elsewhere. Since my seat is now bolted in place, I cannot move it to the new area. This is really only a one game inconvenience--no biggie; but my old stadium seat is really no more than two cushions stitched together with a couple of side straps. Entirely made off FABRIC with a couple of plastic strips--not a steel framed weapon like the UA version.

Anyhow after listening to the asst. athletic director's explanation (some of which did not add up; like the rule has been in effect for 4 years--I read the policy procure every year cover to cover & the warning posted on the entrance gates never mentioned this rule), I pretty much thanked him for my non-weapon screwed in seat and hung up on such nonsense.
