The loss of Zakiya Saunders showed in tonight's game against Fordham. Freshman guards will need to grow up fast for a successful season, in my opinion.

I only had the radio, but with a 3-pt lead and one to give with 9 seconds to go in regulation , why didn't they foul before Fordham set up the tying shot?

Coach's decision, I guess.

Losing Z definitely hurts, but UA has a serious baller in Trpcic. She isn't much of a shooter right now but she showed a lot of confidence distributing the ball in this game, and she has high level quickness and court vision...look for her to put on a good show against LCC.

With that said, Stokes still looks uncomfortable and lost out there and she is making way too many simple mistakes to justify increased minutes. Developing her as a viable back-up option is going to be a larger lift than developing Trpcic as a reliable ball distributor.

This, 100%. Was at the game last night. Trpcic looks really good. Yes, she'll make freshman mistakes, but as the game went along she seemed to learn from them. Made an awesome behind-the-back pass to Tate in the 2nd quarter that way above her grade but led to an easy basket. She lost some confidence in her shot later in the game, which will grow with time. But for a freshman point guard who plays almost the entire game, she did a damn good job.

Stokes on the other hand, looks lost. She probably needs to muscle up a bit and be more aggressive on the defensive end.

Still don't understand why they didn't foul up 3. They had one to give before Fordham even got into the bonus!

Nevertheless, it was an excellent basketball game between two pretty good teams. Looking forward to seeing them up in Albany on Sunday, then back at St. John's next Wednesday.
