  1. There are 3 postings this morning all in different threads all about the “POLITICS” of the NCAA. Maybe the moderator or someone should create a separate thread.
  2. Hobart has always been a quality and competitive program over the years. Not top 20 often but in the receiving votes category. Maybe only non-ivy NYS team (other than UA) to have beaten Syracuse more than one time. IMHO they are more than a speed bump. In most years they would be top half AmEast
  3. My mistake. The site I used was called BenchBoss. The 70% figure was for FOUL shooting for a good shooting stretch center. I guess overall a stud center should be in the over 60% range. I had googled what %age was good for a college center. The BenchBoss (and I have no idea the quality of the site) bounced around a lot and also talked about two different types of stats, regular and advanced/true shooting % (which I did understand the difference); and never fully answered my question as to an overall good center shooting %age. So I guess Newtons 66% is impressive. For me a non-expert, his shooting does not pass the eye test.
  4. Fan, not trying to argue with you. I have never been a coach above cyo and played no higher than intramurals. Probably wrong but not seeing Newton as stud shooter. Consulted a couple sites to try and understand the #s. Two sites both of which reported as centers have become more of a stretch position the #s might be somewhat skewed, but both reported a good center should be shooting north of 70%. What did not make sense they the said should shoot north of 60 % in the paint?? So assuming 60% is a more realistic goal and Newton really shoots exclusively a few feet from the basket, I still have a hard time believing him as a stud 5. Please not saying I am right just my opinion
  5. OK.If you say so, but you also made my point he MISSED 1/3rd of his shots, basically all lay-ups. Pretty sure he shot less than 50% from the foul line. Could no way cover much bigger 5s. Loved his hustle and I guess as a back up could be an asset, but no way any use at the 4.
  6. 99 nice post overall. Do have to disagree on Newton. Need to let him move on. Too small to play the 5; and can’t shoot a lick to play the 4 (or even the 5 for that matter) and can’t play defense. Give him props for hustle and ++ for rebounding; but shooting, and foul shooting and even in close misses too many chipies Just my opinion.
  7. AGREE 100%. IMHO it is about time the NCAA grew a set of ba!!s and put a stop to this nonsense with both nil, portal & free agency. If they don’t then the counsel of University Presidents need to step up & tell the ncaa to go start their own league. Everyone uses the argument there is too much money involved; BUT show me one college that claims they make money on ATHLETICS. You “might” find a few power 5 teams that might break even on Athletics over ALL teams male & female, but I doubt it. IMHO tv revenue, etc should go 100% to the general fund of the University dispersed equitably to all students and University Programs. Any “athletes” that don’t like it tell the GO PRO
  8. UA has to be the best 0-4 team in the country. Won Pretty much all stats yesterday. Even turnovers were only 15ua to 14 mass. And most UA’s TO’s were early on and like Hof pointed out were simply bad passes often uncontested and not caused by umass pressure. Once they get the chitters/nerves out they seem to settle in OK. Disagree SOMEWHAT on Hof’s assessment of the D. Feel the main issue is defensive middies getting beat by simple fakes and get run by (not to besmirch anyone, but #32 got faked out of us jock on at least 2 or 3 occasions.)
  9. Not sure what the allure of the CAA is for some of you; never have. Even in football one magical year and one other ncaa trip in what 10/11 years. Did that well or better in the Northeast conference. Like I said in earlier post, be careful what you wish for; just ask SBrook.
  10. NO. DO NOT GO CAA! Flosports overpriced and nothing on it except caa really. One bid conference, with TOO many teams. AmEast often two bid considerations for lacrosse & volleyball occasionally. Huge recruiting disadvantage to southern teams in conference. Wonder how Brook is doing now😒. DON’T DO IT UA!!! đŸ„ș
  11. Casey has review capabilities for CAA football. Does the CAA bring their own equipment?? Also, pretty sure saw reviews at AmEast tournament @ Vermont the last couple of years? And I don’t watch/follow PLL but I would think they don’t bring their own review equipment to Casey?
