Ok, I was trying to be kind. For anyone not there last night, the conditions were perfect for kicking and passing. Not a breath of wind all night. In fact, the smoke from the team entrance damn near choked out the upper deck before dispersing. So...absolutely no excuse for the wretched punts and missed place kicks. WB overthrew a lot of times on deep routes, but was close. Why they ran Sussman three times in a row to end a drive is beyond my understanding of football. Sounds like somebody has to hit the ATM for a twenty on the way to the game.

 

OneDane, I understand the issue with cost, but I've been going to games since 1970 and they all used to be free for a long time. Climbing from club to D1 scholarship is a huge upgrade in product and Casey is vastly superior to the old venue. Costs will continue to climb and prices will follow suit. I don't think the product is overpriced.

My two cents, is that the product is slightly overpriced . The economic model I would try to follow is the valley cats . Very reasonable seats and food. They to sell out (or close to it) every game . Build an atmosphere then slowly raise prices . I love UA so I will attend but it's tough for a family of 4 to shell out 100 plus for seats to a mid level CAA college football team

Tickets look in line with each of the other teams in the league from looking at a few other teams websites.

 

The Valley Cats are a poor example. They play a lot of home games.

 

Do you really think that attendance would double if they cut the ticket price in half? There are only 5 games a year.

 

UA Athletics are by far the best value in entertainment in the capital district. If you don't need to sit in the best possible seats a game is cheaper than going to a movie in colonie center.

Valley Cats have significantly more games to make the bottom line meet expectations.

Folks, this is Division 1 football...the costs I agree may have gone up exponentially in a manner most were not ready for...but they are damn cheap compared to other FCS and FBS teams.

When the Wildcat became the hot trend a couple of years ago, it was because there was the optional threat of a pass off of it. But it seems like the backs REALLY like to run with the ball instead of pulling up for a short pass.

If they are going to run 90% of the time, why not direct snap to a back or receiver?

The valley cats are an example of lower prices equals more people . If they doubled prices they would not sell nearly as many tickets I don't care how many or fewer games there are. We had around 6500 there yesterday I think . Let's see what happens later in the year not including homecoming . I will continue to pay the prices but as someone with a strong financial background I would rather drop the prices 20-30 percent or more and see what happens to attendance. Would u rather have 4000 people at 35 a ticket or 8000 at 20 a ticket?

 

I don't think the prices are outrageous, but to me it's about building a brand . More people equals more buzz. However I will revisit this thread at the end of the year and if we average 6000 not including homecoming (around 75 percent capacity),I will admit prices are right on. As the only game in town , and done correctly, we should be in a good financial situation .

Or maybe the back has to be trained to look for the pass option, instead of just expecting him to find it.

 

Back when teams ran a halfback "option" play, the back almost always threw the ball even if there was room to gain good yardage with a run.

Sorry, your example just really does not make sense.

 

The Valley Cats have the opportunity to sell 162,000 seats. UAlbany has the opportunity to sell 42,500. That's almost 4 x less revenue that UAlbany could bring in even if they matched the Valley Cats $ for $.

 

Your business model just doesn't work. What would work is if UA had maybe did a slow roll of increased pricing. For the record, Stony Brook announced 8100 for a 12,300 seat stadium. They were lucky if 6,500 were actual fannies in seats.

 

The decline of football attendance is a talked about issue even at the FBS and Pro levels.

I'm far from wealthy lol. I just understand value and economics. The valley cats play 7x as many home games. That's a lot of games to defray the cost of facilities.

 

I also know that if UA reduced prices by 33% they probably would not increase attendance by 33%. Actually one could argue that they could increase costs by another 33% and I don't think it would cause a 33% dip in attendance.

You want to know what would help attendance WAY more than dropping prices? If the die hards made it a point to bring someone who has never been to at least 1 game a year.

 

I brought 2 people yesterday that I had given tickets away to at a business event. It was both of their first times. Both of them were amazed at the environment and what had been built. Both will be back to future games on their own dime.

 

Yes, the school could always do more to pump attendance, but the fans and donors could do more as well.

My only complaint yesterday was the same one I had last season. The way they handle concessions is extremely inefficient. They should separate the cashiers from the people ordering food like they do in SEFCU and at venues like the TUC. Lines would move faster, people wouldnt hate waiting in line, and more food/beverages would be sold.
