The Atheltic department is advertising to students "Don't miss the January 25th Basketball Doubleheader at SEFCU Arena! UAlbany Women's Basketball tip off at 2pm followed by the UAlbany Men at 4:30pm. FREE PIZZA for all students that attend! Don't miss your chance to catch a t-shirt and sign up at the promotions table to win prizes!"

 

There will also be a fundraiser for the Coaches Cure CF organization. Like last year the coaches will wear sweatsuits. There will be a 50/50 and various silent auction items.

 

 

 

UAlbany Basketball Hosts Second Annual Coaches Cure CF Awareness Day

 

ALBANY, N.Y.- University at Albany basketball will host its Second Annual Coaches Cure CF Awareness Day as part of the men’s and women’s doubleheader on Sunday, Jan. 25 at SEFCU Arena.

 

Both games will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel, with the women set to tip a 2:00 p.m., and the men slated to begin at 4:30 p.m. The three-time defending conference champion women play Hartford, while the two-time defending conference champion men face UMBC.

 

The Coaches Cure CF initiative aims to bring awareness of cystic fibrosis to the college basketball community in a similar manner to Coaches vs Cancer. Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening genetic disease affecting the lungs and digestive system of 30,000 children and adults in the United States. Coaches Cure CF was started in 2011 with the Seton Hall Pirates men’s basketball team, and awareness days have since been held at Providence College and Iona College, with Holy Cross kicking off its own Coaches Cure CF game this year.

 

Last year, UAlbany fans raised nearly $5,000 during the university’s first ever Coaches Cure CF game. The men’s basketball coaching staff wore sweat suits during last season’s game in order to help bring awareness to the cause, and continued to wear the suits during a resulting three-game winning streak.

 

Fans attending the Jan. 25 awareness day at UAlbany will have the opportunity to participate in a number of contests, including a 50/50 raffle and silent auction. Proceeds will benefit cystic fibrosis research. In addition, one lucky fan will also enter the SEFCU money machine for a chance to win up to $1,000, with SEFCU generously matching the winnings with a donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Still pretty unbelievable that we are 6-0. I guess tomorrow is what you would call a trap game. The team and coach sure knows that.

 

The possibility of going up two games on both vermont and stony brook is tremendous and would set us up pretty nicely come tournament time.

Solid first half. Roger Wyland must be reading this board. Asked Benson during halftime interview about renovations to SEFCU. Benson mentioned they were researching it, more chairbacks, video board, etc... and then added we may have to go for a full reno with more permanent seating. Fingers crossed on that one!
