#106882 [MBB] Game #30: 2/24/18 - 7:00pm - vs Maine

Posted by UA'08 on Today, 05:35 PM in Winter Sports-Danes Hoops, Track

Best case scenario is if UMBC or Hartford losses in the quarters this way we can avoid going back up to UVM until championship.

I've been saying for a little while now you probably want them in the semifinals. Lamb is coming back, less time they have to readjust everything with him in the lineup the better.
No way. Ill take an inexperienced UMBC or Hartford any day. Neither have been to the America East championship probably since they played each other 10 years ago.

Won twice as a one seed, once as a two, once as a four, and once as a five (pseudo four because the joke of a conference decided to ban BU)

I think the premise that we don't try to win the regular season is false. I believe the coaches and players try to win every game.

Look at the run UVM is on in AE Conference play recently and they've been to the NCAAs once in the past 5 years.

There are no guarantees.

Youre right. Not going to disagree that they do want to win every game, but to me the three games in March narrative feels like a cop out or an excuse for a poor regular season. All I have are radio and online articles to go off of so WB could be very well be ripping into his players in the locker room and going with the just be ready coming tournament time with the media.

UVM is doing just fine and theres no signs of them slowing down anytime soon, except for maybe this years semi-finals.

Winning the conference tournament and going to the NCAA tournament is definitely not a waste, but if we want to win a game there one day you have to win more than 9/10 games during the regular season.

The point is devaluing the importance of the regular season and just going with three games in March is all that matters just isnt the approach Id want the team to take anymore.

A late April home game against Cuse would be an awesome atmosphere at Casey stadium.

Fans we have won as a 4 seed before. Yes I know we hosted back then, but I think the best thing to happen to this team will be to start a new season in the tournament.

We have no choice, but to think its a new season. Weve absolutley done it before, but why put yourself in such a tough position to do it every year.

Disagree. So we win the tournament this year and get a 16 or if lucky a 15 seed and then get smoked, all should be forgotten about the disappointing regular season? The difference between a 14/13/12 and a 16/15 is huge. I wont forget WB said after the Oklahoma game UA will win a game one day. You have to give yourself a better chance at that by taking care of business during the regular season. The idea that the regular season doesnt matter is the wrong approach for the team.

It was awesome 14 years ago just seeing UAs name on selection Sunday. I think we are passed that.

We've had no one show any sort of leadership out there this year when needed. Why should fans think otherwise come next season? UA'08

Interesting point UA'08 - should be interesting how that plays out.

I try (and it's really tough at times) to see the cup as half full.

We will have talent and I hope some how mental toughness can be achieved!!! (Don't ask me how)

I still like our chances now but if I was a betting man I wouldn't wager (LMAO)!!!!

WB has done it before so it wouldnt shock me the least bit.

Would like to see a philosophy shift from getting to the NCAA tournament to winning the regular season.

#106828 2018 Albany Lacrosse Schedule

Award sweep, Nanticoke Offensive POW and ROW, JD Defensive POW

Not sure if FO is considered offensive, but I would have given it to Irelan going 16/21 at the X with a goal.

Whatever CB does I hope he brings in two quality BIGS - probably 1 JC ( hopefully 3 years eligibility) and 1 5th year .

With Healy, Rizzuto and de Sousa we should have depth on the perimeter with Healy and Rizzuto being excellent shooters and de Sousa giving us solid athleticism and scoring from the SF. Hopefully they can learn to defend.

CB has compared Lulka to Brent Wilson (I'll take that) and supposedly Hanks is learning/improving this season.

All 5 of them will have 4 years.

5 freshman and 2 emotionally fragile senior captains.

Weve had no one show any sort of leadership out there this year when needed. Why should fans think otherwise come next season?

I still do not believe we utilized Foster correctly. With all his defensive lapses and mental mistakes, we should have let him ride it out in game to work through it so he could have become a force come conference play. Also with Charles scoring ability hes probably best suited coming off the bench for instant offense, similar to his role last year.

WB doghouse is as deep and dark as ever this year. Players rarely come out of that. I cant even blame the bench when youve got such little room for error since day one. How do you ever expect them to play loose and have fun.

#4 seed vs. UNH first round. Most likely at UVM second round.

Damn unfortunately the America East tournament is not in Albany this year.

Its these incredibly long stretches of nothing that I cant figure out. We can blame the D. We can blame a missed FT, but we made one baske in the last 7:53 of this game (if Im reading it right).

You have to trust your junior captain to not to pick up his last foul with 7+ min left in the most important conference game of the year.

Locked into 4 seed now... No chance catch 3 or 2...not a good in conference season.

I mean to be honest, we haven't had many good in conference seasons anyway.

As someone said before, it's lax season!

Domination! Tehoka is a truck. Didnt know he was a 20 though. If hes here all four years hes going to be an absolute beast.

BTW... Last 3 season. Cb is 21-4 in February over the last three years.

I get that, but whats keeping him from that percentage in January as well?

Cochran played 3 minutes in the Maine blowout. If we didn't see more of him in that game, it's hard to imagine seeing more of him now.

Speaking of the Maine game, I'm not sure why Stire, Campbell and Cremo all played over 30 minutes in that game with the Bing game right around the corner. There is something weird going on with the bench.

As a group, this team should ask itself how Greig Stire played 35 minutes against Maine on Saturday and then did everything short of lighting himself on fire tonight to help win this basketball game without much help from anyone else.

Which is why I have such a new found reapect for Piekell and Becker winning all those regular season championships. It truly does take a lot of not only coaching, but managing the team through the grind.

I have wondered sometimes if it isn't philosophical.

Pikiell and Becker tend to play a larger rotation of players which stands up to the rigors of the regular season better. Sometimes, in the pressure of the postseason, their offenses get shutdown and someone needs to make a play and because they play so many players, their system sometimes comes apart.

CB seems to play a (ahem) tighter rotation and sometimes rides guys into the ground so they drop some regular season games they probably shouldn't and keeps them out of the regular season hunt. It does, establish a sense of ownership among your starters and there's no question over who is going to take big shots. They win tournament games when it looks like they shouldn't because the alpha dogs have put in their miles.

Just a thought.
Agreed. At this point its got me thinking what the better philosophy is.
The one that a few years ago went back to back to back.
Yes, but does that happen if we are playing the semis at SBU or Vermont?

Will called out the bench. He said he put someone in (Conway..didnt say his name) and he didn't box out even during the FT.

The bench? Really? That was the problem tonight.

I love Brown and hope he's here till retirement...but he is DEAD wrong about tonight.

EDIT: Only Clark and Foster are on the stat sheet. 2 guys. That's all he used. No wonder why our guys are tired. The deeper end of the bench can't be worse than David and Campbell. Why isn't Cochran playing 10 minutes a game? Why aren't Costa and Ahmad splitting 10-15 minutes? Why doesn't Conway come in for Campbell for 5 minutes?

Lol thats great. Man, being a bench player for WB has got to be tough. That leash is so tight I dont see how any player can get into the flow and play loosely.
