Anyone know what this is about? Did we get them to sponsor something or will they be selling food?

Unveiling at SEFCU Arena sounds like the plaza is putting its name on the scoreboard.

"for their generous gift to the University at Albany"

Sounds like they are behind the gift of it. Great new partners for the school if that's the case!

Aren't the SEFCU naming rights up this year? (I feel like I've asked that for the past few years).

EDIT: It was up last November 1. Wonder what the status of a new naming partner is. If they re-upped, or if they are shopping around for someone new and it's just taking longer than expected.

The Plaza was built by Lewis Swyer and is still owned by L A Swyer Co, developer and construction contractor.

Googled a little bit lol...

Lewis Swyer...

"He sat on the boards of several colleges and organizations, including the State University of New York at Albany, Skidmore College and the Niagara-Mohawk Power Corporation." http://www.nytimes.com/1988/12/27/obituaries/lewis-swyer-70-dies-arts-center-chairman.html

---------------------

Info on his son who may run the company still?

He received award from UA in 2008 gives a ton of info on his connection with the school....

Edward P. Swyer

Edward P. Swyer, a well-known businessman and entrepreneur, is the president and CEO of The Swyer Companies, a real estate company that owns and manages commercial developments throughout the Capital Region. One of its most notable projects is Stuyvesant Plaza in Guilderland. Swyer is also the vice president of the L.A. Swyer Company, general contractors and construction managers, a company started by his father, Lewis A. Swyer, in the late 1940s. Swyer is currently a director of The University at Albany Foundation. He served as vice chairman of the Board of the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. He is the recipient of the Community Laureate Award.

Working with The Nature Conservancy, Swyer, representing his family, established the Lewis A. Swyer Mill Creek preserve along the Hudson River in Columbia County. It is equipped with a boardwalk for visitors and has grown from 95 acres to 787 acres of protected land.

Through the Lewis A. Swyer Foundation, named after his late father, Edward Swyer has supported wide-ranging private initiatives at UAlbany and area colleges. They include major gifts for the Second Chance Scholarships, Presidential Scholarships, the Campaign for the Libraries, and the University Art Museum. In 1996, the University's Alumni Association named him Citizen of the Year.

I have a funny feeling SEFCU is about to be renamed. 100% all gut no source but this reminds me of when the football stadium was named.

Maybe...but I don't think so . The owner of stuyvensant plaza donated the money for the scoreboard and I think this press conference is just about that, which is great !!!!
