I decided to start a new topic since my post doesn't seem to fit in anywhere else. UA won all six games played on Saturday and Sunday this weekend. (Two volleyball matches, two field hockey games, one women's soccer, and the football. And the weather was great!

Seems a tad low considering some national publications have us a solid second behind UVM. Guess that's why they play the games. Let's prove the coaches wrong and go 16-0 lol.😜

Pfft. Shudda beat Spidies too. 6-1

My final comments on this game: 7 sacks, 16 penalties, 2 INTs, 2 fumbles (neither lost) 1 missed FG, 1 missed XP = 29 times a lack of discipline, skill or execution derailed their efforts. The rose colored glasses tell me that they still only lost by 3. The reality is that they were playing a bad team that they managed to seriously out gain and yet came up on the short end of the scoreboard. For a change, GG seemed to put the blame on the head coach. For a change I agree with him. A totally undisciplined effort against the last team that they will be favored against. This same effort next week against Towson will equal a blow out loss. Let's hope they can coach them up. 14 net yards rushing and 7 sacks exposes the continuing weakness of the O Line against equal or better opponents. Considering the lack of support, Cuff did what he could do. I am not optimistic about the rest of the year. Oh, I forgot the botched on side kick. That makes 30...so once every two minutes they messed up. That’s inexcusable.

Tomorrow camp opens for the MBB team. First official practice of the season is 10/4. Let's go!

Maybe, I know I have advocated the team playing faster and subbing more when the team is deep. I think faster paced teams are more exciting for the fans to watch and might help get more butts in the seats, but I think defense is still real important. I think we are looking for 90-70 games with us on top lol.

Whatever the cause, the full story, etc, he's gone. Time to move on for 2019. We do not know the whole story. Dev Holmes is in the rear view mirror. Bottom line for me remains: Run a clean program and WIN! Get dirty or lose at the current pace and you need to go. Whatever his shortcomings, I have to believe that GG would have been quite happy with a productive, dangerous and happy Dev Holmes. How it all went sour, I don't know.

I think that much of the frustration and exasperation displayed on this board is that there is no chance of moving on from this coach if this season goes into the tank. GG has three more years on his contract - through 2022. There is no money to buy him out, he makes about 300k/year. Anyone got a cool million burning a hole in their pocket? It's not just the coach, it is the ineptitude of the leadership in the athletics department.

This is a game we lose every single time the last three years. This was a gut check and a passing one at that. great job. Now take the week to get healthy.

Really guys? Two weeks ago everyone here wanted him fired, now we are talking COY and FBS? Listen, great win last week but this is still the dude that lost to Monmouth and Richmond and has a horrific, eye-bleeding type of record. He's all our, good or bad.
  13. 3 points
It's being fair....If I'm going to beat the $iena out of him on here when he sucks...I have no problem saying, hey, we may have something here that isn't an embarrassment. What's fair is fair!
  14. 3 points
Yep. He had high octane offenses at both Fordham and UNI. URI is better than their record. It’s a big time trap game. We win that bad boy and it’s one step at a time. I hate to play the what if game...but we are 6 points and two missed FGs from a chance to win 2 more and 6-1. That stings.

Consistency will come... This win gives me hope that program turning corner. Even if there are more let downs... You don't by accident do what they did today. They will continue to gell and grow around cuff. This is a really important win for this program.

I see Coach Bassett is being inducted into the St. Rose Hall of Fame. He's a great coach, teacher and gentleman. https://www.strose.edu/alumni_newsletter/meet-the-athletics-hall-of-fame-inductees-for-2019/

I brought a friend and his son to their first game today. Had to leave at the end of the third because of a conflict, but I wanted to share a few comments I heard.... "I'd love to go to more games. It was fun. That said, WTF? No place for me to get a beer unless I am a donor? How can you get casual fans to start going? Not sure I'll be excited to come back unless I can use your wrist band again." "Consessions are pretty limited. No burgers?" "Had a great time. Too bad we had to leave before the comeback"

I'm still waiting to see what happens which is why I have not been posting on the Football side. I think people are upset with the program. And rightfully so. It's a message board. It's kind of made for complaining (kind of). If I dont like something I dont read it . Same as in life. These are 2 big games . I still have no idea how good or bad this team is. But we will find out very shortly. Then we can make our determination pretty definitively.

Why, as a coach, would you want any player on your team who did not want to be a starter or a star player? But thinking you should be a star player and making it happen are two different things. Some of that is incumbent upon the player to dedicate everything to achieving the goal. The rest is a function of the coaching staff in using the player's talents in a fashion that maximizes achievement. Plus the motivation factor. I truly do not know all that went on with regards to Dev. We likely never will. If he was a prima donna? If he was under coached? If the staff failed to adjust and design plays to utilize his skills? I don’t know. I just know that the program under GG is not performing up to the standards I as a fan, season ticket holder and GDAC member expect. So I get to criticize regardless of the fact I never coached or played college football. I do praise too. Winning is the cure and losing just feeds the fire. It’s the nature of coaching at the D1 level.

Hard to judge much from this game. GG said Lafayette had some good players and up and coming in their league. I think GG is just being kind or politically correct; overall Laf. is BAD. Predicted 5th or 6th in the Patriot and I always felt the Patriot was notch or two below the Nec., even though ratings organizations always seem to have them higher or comparable. Anyhow don't know where they stand this year ratings wise, but to the eye yesterday, they seemed very under manned. Their QB undersized and underweight might be worse than UA's past 5 QB's, who we all know were nothing to crow about. He actually played OK and is only a freshman and I do not mean to be little him or Lafayette; but just seem overall not very athletic and just undermanned. So judging UA so far pretty difficult IMHO. Did somethings OK vs fbs; maybe a little lucky vs Bryant (who may be the best ooc fcs team we played); looked BAD vs a BAD monmouth from a BAD conference; and looked GOOD vs a very undermanned LaF. HOPE I'm wrong; but based on what I've seen so far 1 or 2 caa wins may be a stretch.

I'm just happy they stuck with Undercuffler. I felt like if the other guy, I forget his name, didn't get hurt they might've started him. I might be wrong but I've been pulling for JUC to be the guy, give him time, develop him to be a top CAA QB later in his career. I guess he is kinda of getting there a little earlier than I think anyone thought. He's been very good and should get better with more and more experience. Looks like we are set at QB for 3 more years. Now need to build around him!
  24. 2 points
I asked 4-6 wins...I have my four. I feel marginally better in that they have obviously found an elite level QB. It took 5+ years but I'm glad we are finally here. Nothing changes for me in terms of expectations. I'd love to get 7 wins but get me one or two more and I'll be pleased. I'm content now at 4 but would probably be disappointed if they regress and don't get at least another 1 or 2 with this schedule. Gattuso deserves to have some heat turned down on him especially after last weekend. I'm not even as pissed about the other two losses as the program is still clearly looking to find it's footing but I believe on it's way. Many of these kids have NEVER tasted winning at this level. Give them time and encourage them as they are clearly growing.

Interesting tidbit in the Hansen story. He was contacted by high major schools but wanted to go where he could make more of an impact. On paper, I like the looks of our front court: A slimmer trimmer Lauderdale Hansen who played well in Canada Lulka who was better than he was given credit for last year Doherty who was touted coming in.

None of those guys you mentioned can run an offense. The JoJo loss is a big deal. Kid was going to be a double digit scorer. Healy tried to run some point last year, didn't go well. He's not a gifted ball handler. Say what you will about Clark, he's got the ball on a string and full court pressure doesn't phase him. He's gonna have to nut-up this year! If he learns to trust kids around him and run the offense, there is no doubt in my mind he'll be the best PG in the AE. Just needs to limit to/mistakes. There is nothing he can't do from the PG position on the court, just don't be wild. Gifted kid, I know folks bag on him here but he led the AE in assist and assist rate by a wide margin.

No, cw. It has to be 4th. Every year, the predictors predict 4th. Now get with the program.
  37. 2 points
I’m predicting that the predictors whose day job it is to predict will predict that we finish 4th in the AE. Who’s with me?
  38. 2 points
I didn’t see it touch him either. I am wondering why our defenders weren’t more aggressive in going after the ball - William and Mary can’t touch the ball until it goes 10 yards, but our defenders can. Maybe they thought it wouldn’t go 10 yards? Coach Gattuso said they were playing smart but i don’t understand.

The good: Shades of Bob Ford, a 7:24, 13-play drive with 12 rushes, 10 by Mofor. Defense really took over for 20 minutes, until that late bomb. Only four penalties No turnovers, tho WM DB dropped one in his chest, while forcing four The bad: Slow start again Too many big plays given up Onside kick play The worst: Channel 13 reporter Ashley Miller carrying her camera around the sidelines while wearing a $iena tee shirt Re time management: our last play was run with 1:44 on the clock. A lot of people were saying we should’ve been in victory formation. Could we have run out the clock? I’m never sure when the play clock sets to 40 seconds or 25.

I'm baffled they did not call a timeout. Had THREE. Could've called one at 25 seconds instead lined up and threw a pass in the end zone and then there was 10 seconds left, run, timeout, FG. Could've had time for another shot at the end zone or maybe two more shots at the end zone.

If Drew Bledsoe didn’t get knocked of that game, Brady might be selling insurance and Belichick coaching HS. But then I wouldn’t have had the pleasure of seeing them lose two Super Bowls to my Giants.

Rutgers Using Alcohol Sales to Fund Coach Buyout. I know this is satire, but I think this is a great idea for our coaching situation.

The schedule is a favorable one so I could see 6 - 7 wins IF THE DEFENSE PLAYS BETTER than at Monmouth. Agreed with Reeder that Bryant and Lafayette are bad teams. If they had made one stop or not be horrible in the kicking game vs MU they are 3-1 heading into CAA play. The O will continue to get better as the season continues and if they remain injury free. You can say what you want about the OL they have kept Kuff upright and the sacks have been limited. The backs are getting space to run. They can beat Wm & Mary and Richmond Same as last year and I am not saying they will. Neither WM or UR resemble JMU. Maine and Towson are both very good. If they can take WM down their confidence will grow. So the next two games are critical to how the season shapes up.

I saw that women's tweet as well and not sure how that could be correct. I don't know the number of competition dates the women get, but I am pretty sure it is 17 for the men. The Fall bay day counts as one day, usually two scrimmages in the preseason (last year 3) and then 13-14 games to get to the seventeen competition days. Nothing new in fall as far as I know other than the alumni game on the 4th and the scrimmages the following week. Only thing I have heard recently about the team is that the atmosphere already feels better than last year. Only negative is that it was apparent who worked and who didn't over the summer. Some guys who needed to hit the weights over the summer didn't, but Tehoka looks much, much fitter. I have heard a few guys are nicked up and being held out, but as far as I know nothing serious. I have not heard anything out of the ordinary about any of the new guys, but I haven't really asked so have nothing of value to add on that front.
