College basketball games are 40 minutes and with 5 players on the floor that means there are 200 minutes to go around. Last night we played freshman for 101 of those 200 minutes. As good as our freshman our, unless they're named Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett, we're going to struggle early in the season. I'm surprised at the reactions to Lulka. Maybe we all expected him to come with a cape, a big "S" on his shirt and fly around Sefcu Arena. I thought he's been pretty solid for his first two games - Avg 9PPG, 6 RPG while shooting over 58% from the floor. He showed a couple of nice post moves. Right now, our offense is no where near organized enough to get him consistent touches in the post.

So Rizzuto just strolls into the 9th game of the season and, after not playing a minute of D1 basketball drops 13 pts, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. If there are any other Rizzuot/Iatis out there we should totally offer them a scholarship. Also, nice find of Fruscio to set up his score. Best game of the year for Hank. I'm not sure what the MAAC did to Ahmad Clark but had 30 against Canisius and 29 against Monmouth. There were stretches of Ahmad and four frosh out there. That's a good sign. The zone in the first half was interesting. Made rebounding tough though. Monmouth is good for what ails you but a solid step in the right direction.

We had a putrid home loss against Harvard to go 2-6 in the first 8 games of the 2005-06 season. I don't remember how the rest of that year went.

Hope everyone is watching the great half Hank is playing.. he is all around the ball. Really playing well.

The fire Gattuso and/or Benson thread seems to be still going strong over on Fall/football etc. But I decided to post my comments here as more than football is at stake. See Clacks negative assessment of football, title IX, facilities ALL right-on. In Clack's post, he does give props to Benson on GDAC and I also agree with him there; but he says Benson is hard to judge overall because COMMUNICATIONS on facilities, resource allocations, title IX are pretty much non-existent. And here-in rests my biggest concerns. Does Benson think the title IX issues are just going to evaporate???? Everything is always such a big secret?? Going back to the "bag and stadium seat" fiasco; a committee of administrators, students, fans, community leaders, campus police, etc. could have avoided so much embarrassment and BAD feelings. On these larger issues of coaching concerns , title IX, facilities, and resource management; COMMUNICATIONS AND COMMUNITY/FAN INVOLVEMENT are even more vital!

Congratulations to Stark and Hanks for making the All CAA team. That’s the good news. The bad news is that 90 players were selected to the three teams and only 2 from UA made it. Not a single defensive player could crack the 42 defensive players chosen. That to me is an indictment of the current coaching regime which was claiming thatthey have the most CAA talent yet. Not so much. On the the other hand, Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Maybe Lauderdale can teach the them some toughness. He doesn't seem shy or fragile around the court.

Not super surprised with the way we played tonight. Veteran teams come into this game and take care of business, young teams...not so much. Miller and French gave us some nice energy and effort off the bench. Our young guys can learn from Miller who plays with a purpose every time he puts the uniform on. He is an easy guy to root for. I watched tonight and saw: A) Some guys who get it. B)Some guys who are starting to get it C) Some guys who don't quite get it yet. It's still November and there's plenty of time for guys at "C" to go to "B." In fact, it's one of the fun things to watch in college basketball.

As far as I’m concerned they can take it out of Benson’s salary.

I'm new to the board but have followed our team for years. Regarding defense: I cringe when our 5 is above the foul line and our point is left with their 4 or 5 underneath. Hank moves well but his game is patrolling near the hoop. Trying to trap out front should be the exception, not the rule. Can't count the number of times our bigs leave their post only to have the ball dumped in for an easy layup. Also, BU moved the ball well. No unnecessary dribbling... led to solid looks. If we play zone, need to move faster- Can not allow easy three point looks. BU was exceptionally hot in the first half but still there needs to be more in the face. Additionally, we must have two or more positioned to haul in the rebound. Offense looked best when Malachie was in there. He is long and creates opportunities. Healy a gamer. I though Ahmad played well, although he missed a couple of easy layins. On the other hand, I agree with the board that he trying too hard. Some shots are not meant to be. My line up would be Healy, De Sousa, Clark, Campbell and Luka. Campbell plays 4 and is only allowed to drive and shoot bank shots 10 feet in. Coach still hasn't broken the bad habit of chewing a guy out on the sideline. Looks bad and doesn't get a the affect sought. Ditto- for the foot stomp.

I’d say our field hockey and men’s lacrosse final fours were light years more impressive.

Blame attendance on Healy. He played with RJ Barrett on Monteverde team in FL. He needed to convince him to come play for UA and CB instead of some loser program at Duke and some guy named Coach K whose won a couple of games I believe. All those dunks would pack SEFCU every game I bet. 😁😁😁

Hard to not get excited about rizzuto and his future at UA. Him and Healey on the wings with Clark driving... Woof

Don't believe these are bad loses. They are young and play hard. If there was ever a year to just worry about conference play that is this year.

There are two area's that JUMP off the page analytically that if we can clean up, we are going to be much better. - TO's - ranked 308, it is very very hard to win games consistently with the number of turnovers we are making. I understand why they are making them, the game hasn't slowed down for many of these kids. They may be nervous and rushing, pressing etc. This should get better with time. - Finishing inside the arc/2pt fg% - ranked 328th in the country. Right now, they simply can't finish at the rim at all. Not really sure why. Clean those two things up at least to acceptable levels and this Albany team will win a lot of games.

I'm probably going to sound like a broken record this year but I'm going to say it again. These kids need time for the game to slow down a little bit for them. Everything, especially for the big men down low, seems so rushed. It's like they know the game is faster so they are trying to physically play as fast as they can and when you do that you get reckless and lose control. I think we've seen this a lot with the Jucos and freshman in the past. I believe players like Lulka and Lauderdale and even Hank have the skill and talent to be good in this conference, it's just going to take time and more importantly experience. That game went from borderline unwatchable to an exciting finish. Good to see them show some fight and come back. Of course I would've liked a win and I'm not a fan of moral victories but hopefully this will give them some confidence. The talent is there!

Healy and Campbell played 44 minutes. John Iati says “What’s the big deal?”

De Sousa is about as lost as I've ever seen any player lost in this program. Nothing is clicking for him right now. Kept getting balled ripped away from him...limites motor didn't persue hard just let things happen to him. May be a redshirt candidate...

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this win. Team is a lot of fun to watch. Honestly so much better watching this team play compared to last year. Don’t know if it’s because they are young, but you don’t see them complaining on every shot to the refs looking for a foul like a couple of guys we had did.

Very nice win buy let's give credit when is due. Campbell played extremely well. Played good defense and hit the open shot. He will be given it all year, and as a senior he needs to knock them down. Clark was awesome as well. Good team win. Just keep getting better.

I actually really like this game this year with this team. They are struggling right now on both sides, beating up on Oneonta could help them see the ball go through the hoop, get their confidence up a little. If there was ever a year to play a sub D1, this is it!

Louisville has fired football coach Bobby Petrino two days after the Cardinals lost their seventh game in a row to fall to 2-8. Athletic director Vince Tyra announced the move Sunday, saying he "did not have the confidence" that Petrino could turn things around next season and that the change "needs to start happening now." "We want to thank Bobby for guiding our football program to some of the better seasons we have had historically at UofL during his two separate tenures here," Tyra said in a statement. "However, at this time we feel the program needs different leadership and we owe it to our student-athletes and fans to get this turned around." I know it is "apples and oranges", but 2 wins and seven losses in a row gets the coach fired. When SBU filets UA next week it will eerily be the same situation. Noticeable differences: Louisville has money, GG to his credit never had a scandal, Petrino actually had some success, and Louisville has an AD that isn't sitting in the shadows not addressing a known issue, etc...

Me too. Having nothing to do with the backstory of Peter Hooley: Just the 2-6 start to the year with a team of mostly new players after a tournament appearance, then the team gels and runs to 15-1 in league. A championship game at home against the team that handed UA its only loss (also at home) then being behind the entire game, followed by a slow comeback. A packed arena full with people who thought they lost the game with a corner full of the opposing fans going nuts after a drive to the hoop is too strong and misses, only to have Warney tip the ball out to a 3-point shooter who drains it - for the win - making the crowd go crazy while that opposing corner goes completely silent and doesn't move from shock for at least 10 minutes? Yup, not sure that moment could possibly be topped. If it could, I sure hope I am there.

I think French needs to move to a starter in place of Hank by AE time. More fluid and seems to be in right place at right time for driving dump-offs.

She's got 2 or so years to show progress, meaning positive momentum, doesn't mean she needs to win 25 games... If by year 5 she's winning 28% of ae games... I reserve the right to demand that her ass get fired.

I liked Lauderdale demanding the ball in the post last night. Good stuff. Having a game the night before hurt us. Not necessarily for fatigue but for preparation against a team like HC that defends so differently. We kind of learned on the fly.

I will always root for Albany in all sports and hope they win every game. However the state of the football team is abysmal. I hate all these "we lost all these games by 7 points or less OR we could have been 7-4" THAT IS COMPETELY AND UTTERLY BS. A famous coach said "you are what your record says you are". That's the truth and a fact ! Nothing more or less. I am 100 percent cancelling my season tickets and if I feel like it cherry pick a couple of games. I truly dont believe I'm being a fair weather fan. Think about what the atheltic department has done over the years. (Ex , seat cushion..ect) and the terrible management of the program . They dont deserve my money. I would never tell anyone else what to do with their money but if you agree I suggest you cancel your tickets with me.

I really get too much enjoyment from possibly knocking SBU out of the playoffs. I probably shouldn't but I do. Total trap game.

Gonna disagree. Watched the whole game. BY FAR the best game w'eve played all year. You can't gauge football solely on stats. For the record, this is one of the best teams on both sides of the ball in FCS...and we did very well. Also, TOO many dropped passes by our Wideouts today or Undercuffler would have had a HELL of a game. Only one INT was his fault...he got drilled on the first one. Great game, mixed emotions...but if we play like that next season, I'd be happy. Really love what i saw out of Mofor and Undercuffler. The defense has been lights out today (and that TD was a push off...the one that gave SBU the lead). The most interesting thing was watching Gattuso. Honestly, he looked humble in his interactions with team and staff. Maybe it's a fresh start. I'm not buying yet...but I will listen to offers.

I would consider being in the basketball top 25 WAY more important/impressive than winning a national championship in Lacrosse, much less being in the final 4. Big time college athletics is all about what it does for the brand of the university and how much attention it brings to the school, thus adding to the value of your degree. 99 out of 100 random people on the street can't name one of the last 5 national champs in LAX. A pretty strong percentage now know that UMBC is a college with an athletic program. Lacrosse is growing, but it isn't even a pimple on that national medias forehead, much less something that brings attention.

I too will not renew my football season tickets. I definately want to support our student athletes however I'm not wasting my hard earned money on an absolutely disaster of a program. When Benson makes it right , (whatever that is) , I will be back.

Usually we find that there are two solutions: 1) turn off and then turn on again 2) find a child, grandchild, nephew, niece, etc, hand them whatever device is wonky and say “fix this”. if neither work, get a new one.

Looking back at the stats from the Iona game, I think the big issue this season will come down to how Lulka, Hank, French, and Lauderdale develop. We have some of the most size we have had in a while, but they got outscored in the paint 32-6. The guards will be fine and keep the team competitive. If the 4 bigs can develop by the end of the OOC, the team will be very good. If not, it's going to be a very rough year. They will be the difference between a 10-15 win team and potentially having another 20+ win season.
