Hopefully with NCAA guidelines now in place... the CAA will announce their plans for the late winter - spring season. I like to see something in early November 2020. With eight games allowed, I see a conference only schedule.

Cuomo admittedly did a decent job on the phased reopening (other than being a giant Stony Brook canoe on this advisory - when other states wanted to ban NY'ers he screamed it was unconstitutional but now it's okay for him to do it) but the guy completely dropped the ball in the beginning with his BFF De Trashio and the NYS DOH official who were tweeting and telling people to continue to enjoy themselves, see a broadway show, etc. and then with his handling of the nursing home fiasco (which, IMO, = blood on his hands). Then you have the hospital fiasco in NYC where he needed a large hospital ship and tented hospital built; both of which he barely used (if at all). Oh, and then the whole ventilator thing where he could have bought them years ago, etc. Cuomo is a loser, through and through. Easily the worst governor NY has had in decades (or rather, in my lifetime as an teen/young adult/adult (which is about 20 years). Don't break your arm patting that moron on the back; he doesn't deserve it.

Anyone blaming Benson (and I often blame him for things) simply is not understanding the background to the decision. This time, he should not shoulder the blame...rather, commended for protecting the kids and staff.

Per UAlbanysports.com Benson has totally shut down Athletics indefinitely. 543 in TOTAL Suny system is far less than 1% required to open events. Benson said he must do what is good for the student body. IMHO what is good for the student body is find the offending students; quarantine and/or penalize THEM and get on with education {INCLUDING Athletics.} In the TU article concerning football & volleyball being shut down to spring and all other sports to begin 9/21: an anonymous coach claimed there has been 1000 high school football games played across the county so far this fall and NOT ONE confirmed case of covid from any of them. I am not sure where he got his numbers and if they are accurate and he might have said 1000 athletes not games; but in either case, if true it shows sports CAN proceed if protocols are followed.

Give it a rest. All of you. Bigger problems facing all of us. I don’t want to come here and read two people over the age of 40 squabbling over bull$iena.

Juwan Green was signed by the Falcons to the practice squad. Jarren Williams was signed by the Giants for their practice squad. Great job by them, and good luck to each.

Ultimately we have a better chance of raising in the ranks because of our affordability. Most net worth millionaires according to the book put out by Chris Hogan went to either JUCO or Public institutions. Food for thought the largest single donation to an athletic department was to Oklahoma State University. So cheer up I know not having sports to talk about sucks but things are going to get better. This is coming from a stay at home dad with three pups under 6 who is closing in on being home for six months straight.

BIG MISTAKE IMHO!!!!! FBS football playing coast to coast. Lacrosse NEEDS to get back on the fields facing opponents ASAP. The have already loss nearly a full season. In a separate survey of coaches only moderate optimism about having a SPRING 2021 season. Article did not really identify coaches surveyed; but Duke head coach who did vote positive, said he was not sure why so many were only moderate or below. I also do not understand coaches being so pessimistic? Isn't it a BiG part of their job to build hope, confidence and positive attitudes in players?

I suspect Will Brown and Colleen Mullen are working hard to come up with a limited non conference schedule that will test their respective teams prior to the conference games. The questions that I have are: When will the America East announce the conference schedule for men's and women's basketball? (I am hoping prior to Columbus Weekend) When will UAlbany announce the non conference schedule for men's and women's basketball? (I am hoping for early October) When will there be an announcement if fans will be allowed in the stands? Opinion: Currently, I do not feel safe visiting the UAlbany campus for an athletic events however; I believe the UAlbany administration is making every effort to control the COVID-19 spread. I am hoping when 11-25-2020 arrives, the opportunity to attend an athletic event will be there. Questions - concerns - thoughts

Agree with everything CW offering. Except, I personally WOULD feel comfortable going to a football game TOMORROW-- with seating spaced out, masks and all social distance guidelines enforced. Numbers across NYstate continue to be excellent and even @ UA covid #s are by no means threatening IMHO. Of Course, what teams we bring in and how to protect UA athletes is another matter; but me personally I'm READY and believe me when I say I have a # of pre-existing conditions and would NOT attend anything I did not feel save at.

Wishing you the happiest of birthdays!!! Thank you for everything you are doing not only on the field but also for what you are doing off the field. You represent the best of humanity. Keep up the good fight!!! (Thanks Inside Lacrosse for the reminder (via Instagram)).

The problem here is that we are trying to use common sense and logic when it comes to these issues. Common sense and logic have little to do with it when the driving factors are fear, partisan politics and the almighty dollar. Compound that with a healthy dose of CYA, hysteria and misinformation. Basically everyone is making it up as they go along.

What is there to say. And, he's doing a fabulous job on the topic. Google Benson and Doc for a youtube video. He's on the ball..

Has Benson suspended this blog also? Nobody has anything to say? Haven't seen a single comment since Sunday.

I agree we should punish the offenders and not all athletes (to bring it back on topic).

Silly - they can be tested to make sure they do not have the virus, temperatures taken etc etc etc..!

Agree 100% not Benson’s call. He may not have even been given a courtesy call for his opinion. That said, to me this is a PR move more than a science based safety move. Nobody can be wrong in the wrong direction. I get it. Over the top better safe than sorry. My two cents.

I think he would have popped a vein! Hell, I would have popped a vein. And the MTSU head coach is named Stockstill. You can’t make this stuff up.

You're absolutely right. Gattuso would have heard me for at least the first 5-6 minutes of the 2nd half. I would have hydrated the entire half-time to make sure my voice and body were ready. Wow. That was atrocious.

I took no offense from your words...my spouse took many Autumn trips to Oneonta when our daughter went to Hartwick... My spouse loved the bar life .. During her time at UAlbany she would visit friends that attended Oneonta...

Mass punishment never works i.e. fair. Find students who violated, punish them, but not the team(s)! Administrators are notorious for not knowing how to discipline rule breaking athletes.

Of course, every school studies these metrics and aims to improve them not just for rankings purposes but also for student/faculty recruitment and retention. The point is, Albany is not succeeding in any of these areas, at least in relation to its peers. Many years ago, I believe we topped out around a ranking of 120, and I was hopeful we'd crack the top 100. Northeastern U., as an example, used to be below us but has skyrocketed to #49. But at this rate, we're heading closer to the third tier rather than the first. This is more disappointing than anything we do/don't achieve in sports.

I agree. My thought is that perhaps hammering everyone for a period of time does two things. It reinforces the seriousness of the issue. And it likely makes self enforcement and peer pressure more effective. There’s always gonna be idiots though. They’ll break the rules because they either don’t think it applies to them or they’ve done it before without consequence. My senior year of HS, a bunch of football players had a “beer party” as we called it back then. They somehow got caught and everyone was kicked off the team for the remaining games. They included many good players and the season tanked. Kids know the rules. Kids still do stupid stuff.

There is a pandemic. There is no excuse for them to not care and 'they are facing something we didn't face' is just a cop out. They should now pay the consequences which should be swift and severe. It's not like we're in the first week of this thing...we are half a year into this. EVERYONE knows to socially distance. If you don't care, pay the consequences.

Eli, neither you or I faced what these students face today. Further, I do not think the students in general, student-athletes, off campus students, in particular, ever thought of the consequences. The consequences were swift, certain and severe. I imagine the "downtown" and off-campus housing will receive much more attention this week by University Police, Albany City Police and Albany County Department of Health. Sadly, owners of business in Clifton Park, that I frequent, stated that number of people attempting to enter their businesses without face masks increase significantly towards the end of the week. Students are just reflecting a segment of our population who do not care. This weekend just underscores why fall sports were cancelled.

IMHO Benson once again appears to be bungling. I'll give him a couple of days; as the situation is new and in flux. But IMHO he should absolutely identify the players and teams involved. Punish those responsible; NOT everyone. If privacy concern's are an issue, OK, don't identify the particular player/players; but give them the punishment NOT the whole athletic community! Not to get too political, but this is really what is matter with society today: we punish everyone for the actions of the few. Not every police officer is BAD/STUPID/UN-TRAINED whatever; Not every black is a gang banger druggie, Not everyone with a gun is a vigilante; Not everyone with a protest sign is a radical {in fact most are just trying to do their civic duty and expose injustice}; and Not every politician is out just for themselves {could be very wrong on this one.} SORRY about the RANT. Hope I did not offend anyone.

That’s if King Cuomo allows it. They have the cadets at Michie because King Cuomo has no jurisdiction over federal property. I’ve been thinking that they should have a limited number of fans in stadiums...professional rooters if you will. Equip them with mics and digitally multiply their effect by say 1000. Gotta be doable. That way you could have like 50 home fans and 10 travel fans and it would sound like 60,000.

This technically breaks the rules by not being election-related and creating precedence of allowing exceptions is gonna bite me, but I’m gonna let it slide this time. Nice work if this is yours. Kodi nox
