  1. Coundoul actually rejected Colorado's contract offer and is looking to go to Europe. Colorado acquired a vet goalie today too, Matt Pickens, who was with Chicago and had a quick spell with QPR in the English Championship. http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives...tt-pickens.html The Rapids have Preston Burpo too, so Cues might be third string for a while...but being third string and riding it out is how Coundoul got his shot. Soccer is by far my second favorite thing to follow, especially in the AE. Cues is blessed with being very tall and athletic, guys like him are always gonna get a shot at being a pro (helps that he won 11 games last year too). The MLS Draft this year was actually pretty deep, especially when guys like Tobin from UVM and Schulz from BU can't even get a sniff at the combine, and I think both those guys are pros.
  2. Scotty Mcrae

Well, based on that picture of that one volleyball player up on this site last season, I'd be attending their games too. Conference preview: It will be out soon! I figure the site that directs the most traffic to my blog should know.
  3. Coaches Blog

Well, he says America East rival, which leads me to believe it is one school. I for one hope it was Binghamton, because that would be hilarious. Wouldn't be too much of a surprise if it was BU or UVM. I don't know that he would have admitted to getting a chuckle from BU however, I just don't see anyone messing around with Wolff (I'd really be afraid to because he might blow a vein in his head, and he is the elder statesman and nobody says anything bad about him). I'm just going to keep thinking it is Binghamton. http://americaleast.blogspot.com/2008/08/w...go-perhaps.html That is a subtle slap anyone can appreciate...except Kevin Broadus supporters.
  4. Kevin Broadus is a Moron

Admit it, you are coming around to my way of thinking! Consider the source, but maybe Broadus is taking these guys one because it took him 7 years to graduate from college, at least that is what wikipedia says. "Broadus began playing collegiately at Grambling State University, but transferred after his first season to Bowie State University. He played for Bowie State from 1983 to 1986, earning conference all-rookie honors in the 1984 season, and leading his team in scoring as a captain during his senior year. Broadus graduated from Bowie State in 1990 with a degree in business administration, and then began his coaching career at his alma mater, serving as an assistant coach for three seasons." Things could have happened between then (like kids maybe...he has four, one 23, the others 14,13 and 11...he is 44), but perhaps the taking a long time to get his degree is where the mentality of taking on basketball vagabonds comes from. Who knows. I just don't see it ending well. Personally, I liken it to the following exchange from the American classic film, Tommy Boy: Tommy: Did you hear I finally graduated? Richard Hayden: Yeah, and just a shade under a decade too, all right. Tommy: You know a lot of people go to college for seven years. Richard Hayden: I know, they're called doctors.

I actually would not be shocked at all if the guy writing the reviews picked Binghamton. In reading his reviews from this year and last year, he seems like the type of guy that would say "hey, they've got three former top 150 recruits coming in, and in a paltry ass league like the America East, they will dominate." After all, he did pick you guys to win the league last year (Kidding!), but more to the point, I recall he said Maine was a team to "look out for in the America East" last season. Maine...everyone and their mom knew Maine would be awful last season. Maybe he doesn't, and picks either Hartford or Vermont (I don't think two AE teams get in), but I guess I would not be surprised to see him pick Binghamton because of all the talent they assembled. It is one thing when you have transfers that sat out a year coming in and playing well like UMBC since they have the advantage of practicing and forming bonds with their teammates during their sit-out years (having Jay Greene to get you the ball helps a ton too), it is another when you assemble a JUCO crew of once considered great talents to be your primary foundation for success and expect things to come together smoothly right of the bat.
  6. Jamar Wilson - New Team

Looks like they just missed promotion into the first division too...only the top two get promoted, his team finished 3rd. Coppenrath hasn't been anywhere near the dominant player he was in college professionally though. Looks like injuries and lack of athleticism caught up to him. If Jamar can have a career playing as long as guys like Tunji Awojobi, Joey Beard (BU) or Trevor Gaines (UVM) and banks what you said, he will be have a pretty penny to sit on for a long time. Those guys never played in the best of the best leagues, or did maybe for a season or two, but they always have a place to play and usually do well for themselves.
  7. Jamar Wilson - New Team

And run the risk of getting cut or let go by those teams. Maybe he will at some point, but I'm betting he is taking the safer bet and guaranteed money that he knows he will get. Teams in Greece have a penchant for not paying their players (ask Paul Shirley). He might make the move later in his career, and probably stands to make more money in those leagues, but think about it, Jamar probably makes six-figures (or at least 80-95k minimum) to play basketball for half the year and he is in a league where he is the 4th leading scorer and probably considered one of the better players there. If any of us had that opportunity, I'd don't think we'd be complaining that we don't play in Italy or Spain. He probably is one of the highest earners coming out of his graduating class...most of us are lucky to get 40k a year jobs out of college. Again, I don't think he is complaining. Also, Dane96, Gooch might not be around come next year if someone ponies up around 4million to pry him away this transfer window, I tend to doubt it will happen, but who knows.
  8. Nate Hutcheson

  9. Scheduling

Hartford has put together a really nice challenging slate too thus far: Nov. 16 @ Philly Hoop Group Classic (Field: Villanova, URI, Penn State, Towson, Niagara, Monmouth, NJIT) Nov. 17 @ UConn Dec. 22 @ Baylor Dec. 30 @ Stanford The AE will be playing UConn, Baylor, Stanford, Villanova, Pitt, Kansas, Notre Dame that we know of...all of those teams figure to be Top 25 teams next season (maybe not Stanford)...last year it seemed like the league didn't play that many big name, top 25 teams for that current year (meaning, teams might have played big name programs, but they weren't top 25 caliber last season--Duke and Pitt were about the only ones really), so its nice to see these teams getting scheduled this year.
  10. Scheduling

Isn't it a bit early to judge? Or, what is your basis for it? I'm not denying that its a good schedule (and probably will be one of the better ones), but from the information I have on other teams, like BU, UVM and UMBC, they all have some nice looking schedules too...and we don't even know all of the games for other teams too, not that Stony Brook is going to be a world breaker this year, but all we know is that they are playing Dartmouth. It is just a bit incomplete I feel, considering we have more info about some teams than others. None of the "best OOC" schedule stuff will matter though if the all the teams in the league don't take care of business and beat the teams it should like the Ivy, NEC, Patriot League, Independents...and then getting good records against the MAAC and CAA. Anyways, thanks for the input on this everyone.
  11. Scheduling

Hey all, I'm attempting to compile every AE team's out of conference schedule on the blog. One, its a way to get people to continue coming and visiting, and two, I'd rather talk about something different than Minja Kovacevic (about 1100 visits in two days (Wednesday-Thursday) and my numbers for Friday are going to be huge since I got linked to AOL Fanhouse (no, I didn't send them the links either), pretty much all going to articles related to him...traffic is nice, but I was hoping it would be basketball related, not about someone's criminal activity). So if there is anything anyone comes across, Albany or any other AE team, shoot me an email at america.least@gmail.com, or leave a comment in the posting, which is going to be continually updated. http://americaleast.blogspot.com/2008/06/s...itron-2008.html So far for the Dane's I've got, @Villanova, @Kansas, @DePaul, vs. Canisius and @Siena (is it technically considered a road game? or neutral court? I'm just guessing since its played at Siena's home building its a road game) Thanks.
  12. Might want to post the entire quote there Patch. I say my blog is "great" and follow it up with saying: "Keep coming, I appreciate it. Buzz Bissinger, does not. I probably was one of the blogs he looked at to formulate his opinion on them leading to the destruction of journalism. If this place was the only blog I had ever seen and needed to make an opinion on it, I'd probably think the same thing. At least, I'm self-aware." So what I'm saying here is, and correct me if I'm wrong, that most people thought the concept of the blog was stupid and were ripping me about the name and my opinions etc. Well, if they were so against it, why are they reading it? It means people who follow America East basketball feel my blog is worthy enough to read. This board directs the most traffic to the place as a referral site. Sure, I'll place my links in a story on here, but for all you guys who say you don't like me because I've called Will Brown a D-bag or think I have some agenda, how many times do I stop by and read and someone is posting a story I've found and you all are discussing it? The blog obviously holds some value with everyone here, whether its you use it to get news or to read for fun, or you use it to fuel some sort of hatred towards me. As for the second part of my comment that you failed to post, I am aware my blog is a place of silliness and un-journalistic credibility and if I had never seen a blog in my life and read mine, I'd think "well that is a piece of $iena". But that is the difference, my blog is not a place where "journalistic responsibility" is the standard I uphold. I'm not a journalist, but I want a place where an alternative/contrarian/my own view can be heard. I believe I've offered that and that most people genuinely like it for their own reasons like I said before. I've never taken "facts" and changed them around either. Whether or not Will Brown is a D-bag is up for debate, but you know my stance. I've taken facts and given my opinion on them, but if that is what you want to believe, fine by me. I know you'll still be reading!
