Field Hockey Off to Normal Start

Recommended Posts

Doesn't look like much, if anything, has changed under our new field hockey coach.

According to the UConn athletics site, "In the day’s other game, Sacred Heart held on to defeat Albany (N.Y.) 4-3."

The Great Danes have been outscored 8-3 on the season in two games vs. some very average-to-below-average competition. They lost to American, 4-0, yesterday at UConn.

Hopefully someone went to the women's soccer match today. I'm home at my parents stocking up on supplies before returning to Albany.

Tough loss for UA Women's soccer. They give up a goal with 27 seconds in regulation. Quinnipiac was the superior team but the Danes held their ground.

The Danes didnot look confident or comfortable in the offensive end and must not over pass when around the 18 yard mark. A few times especially because they didn't register many shots I though they should have shot rather then make a pass. I think this could improve with time as people get comfortable with the coach and the system.

Some items I noticed - we are small in physical stature and could use more quickness. A couple of new players are worth mentioning......

#9 Uju Ogbuawa is a nice player early in the game as a striker it was hard to get her involved but when she was moved to the mid field she distributed the ball extremely well and was very unselfish. She lacks some speed and at times was a little slow transitioning from offense back to defense.

#3 Ahkita Madyun seemed to be a very solid and confident defender.

#2 Meghan Garrity looked pretty solid in the second half

#4 Jessica Insana (CC of RI) looked very scrappy and got her self involved and made several very good plays on the defensive end.
