Top 10 athletes of my time (03-07) in no particular order

1. Theresa Covert - track & field...

In one year; her senior year outdoor championships she won the 100, 100 hurdles, long jump, and had runner up performances in the triple jump and the 4x100 meter relay. I could be mistaken but she was also on the 3rd place 4x400 relay as well. Thats 6 races, and 2 jumping events, scoring 42 points individually...all after having a baby and retiring from the sport altogether. Also qualified for the NCAA's that year and still holds 5 school records to date.

2. Jamar Wilson - men's basketball...

enough said really...2000+ points, 2 time MVP, led team to the first 2 titles in school history...true playmaker with unreal athleticism. You'll see him on the next level, you might have to get some European channels but you'll see him.

3. Casey Halloran - women's softball...

3 all-championship teams, 3 all-conference teams, pitcher of the year honors (2006), 3 a-east titles. On the team that won the first NCAA match-up in U-Albany history. Also a local product from Columbia High...just makes it better.

4. Blair Buchanan - women's volleyball...

3 conference player of the year awards, 3 setter of the year awards, 2 time all-american mention, 2 conference titles; not to mention that 5 game thriller against UMBC and last year's thriller on TV against Syracuse. DeNeal also gets a shout-out too. If Blair was Jordan, DeNeal was her Pippen.

5. Kamar Elliott - men's football/track & field...

3 year starter for U-Albany's football team as well as winner of 5 consecutive triple jump titles and 2 runner-up performances in the long jump, and several all conference selections in the hurdles for the track team. Was named 2005 Field Eventer of the year. 123 tackles and several interceptions as a walk-on.

6. Colin Disch - men's football...

346 tackles in 3 seasons, 3 time first team all-conference defense, 2 time defensive player of the year, 2 time first team mid-major all american. Great nose for the football and he's got another year!

7. Joe Greene - men's track & field...

6 time outdoor conference champion (400, 400hurdles, 4x400), 3 time IC4A champion (400hurdles, 4x4), 2 time All-American (400 hurdles), USA representative at World Junior championships. Numerous empire state games champion. School record holder.Qualified for the 2008 Olympic Trials. Ranked in the top 25 in the USA this past season in the 400hurdles. And he's only going to be a Junior this coming school year.

8. Frank Resetarits - men's lacrosse...

57 goals 23 assists his senior year. 45 goals 19 assists junior year. 29 & 21 his sophomore year, 27 & 20 his freshman campaign. Total of 241 points in his 4 years at Albany. All-American 1st team honors and all-conference honors multiple times. Now plays for the LI Lizards.

9. Marc Pallozzi - men's track & field/football...

Walk-on 2 time conference champion (javelin), IC4A champion, 2 time all-american, first field event all-american, empire state games record holder (2007), school record holder, ranked top 25 in the US. Qualified for the 2008 Olympic Trials. Walked on to the football team as a punter and averaged 37 yds per punt and 10 tackles as a kicker. Local product from Troy.

10. Rashad Barksdale football/baseball...

In just 2 1/2 years at Albany he established himself as a household name. Batted .277 & .308 in his 2 seasons as an outfielder for the baseball team. In one season walking onto the football team he started as a shut-down corner and punt return man. Averaged 9 yards per punt return and had 3 interceptions and 37 tackles. Naturally he is better known for being drafted to the Eagles in the 6th round with his 4.4 40 speed. Local product as well coming from Hudson, NY.
