New Athletic Director: What do you look for?

My opinion: if they are serious about being players in football, I think it will be an Eastern Seaboard or Midwest person with connections to corporate entities.

I do believe that Coach Gattuso is super serious about winning a national title. I also don't think his (or many of the coaching staffs) are in trouble at all with a new hire. I do think baseball is going to come under the microscope in a big way. No back information there, just my opinion. I love baseball...and for those on this board who really love it...it's not a knock at all. What Coach has done with almost ZERO resources has been pretty miraculous. But, I do think they need to take a hard look and decide if they want/can support the sport. IN THE END I HOPE IT STAYS!!!!!!

I think the goals of the next AD are pretty simple:

1. Increase Revenue via both corporate partnerships and alumni donations.

2. Increase revenue via attendance.

3. Increase community involvement and outreach

4. Continue with facility expansion. In order of need: a) New scoreboards in SEFCU; B) Athletics Building connecting to the stadium. This will allow more space to be created in the SEFCU for the Basketball team and other support services (Moving both Men's and Women's Coaching Staff into the SEFCU). c) Indoor facility for training and indoor track and field. This will allow for a re-design of SEFCU in the future. d) Softball-- real stands, bathrooms, concessions, lockerrooms. e) Baseball-- same, if the sport sticks around.

The new A.D. really needs to be a marketing guru, a business savvy person, a person who can navigate politics, and a really personable down-to-earth person who can connect with the community both on campus and off.

I do believe our marketing department could be on the chopping block. I honestly don't see much of what they've done as having any sort of value for the Purple Family. Good people maybe, but DIII attitude.

Agreed. Marketing, marketing, marketing.

I'd like to see someone young and energetic with an athletic playing background in a revenue driving sport. Not a life long administrator.

Oh and I will definitely apply for it. ;)

Ok, that works for me. I just worry about a new President suddenly changing course. McElroy did a fantastic, deliberate job in building up this program, with probably the best overall facilities in the America East (which will get better once SEFCU goes under the knife, if and when), and the Commish cups to show for it.

Very few schools of our size have the separate facilities for each sport that UA does.

McElroy had some serious limitations.

Let me put it to you this way: We were this close (fingers apart barely) to having a stadium worse than CCSU's. FACT.

Also, it was Fallon's big gift that got us the lax field. Let's not go crazy on what he has done facility wise.

I don't see that as a positive. Never have.

What evidence do we have either way?

I played 18 holes of golf with him last year. He's pro athletics. I wouldn't say he's a fanatic but he understands the importance and role of athletics in a university experience. He is also realistic about Albany's place in the world of DI athletics.

That's all we can ask for.

You are very wrong. He's very pro-athletics.

What I meant was he is not a fan of sports as in he doesn't follow it as like a die hard fan. Also did not play any sports. Didn't mean that he doesn't support athletics.

This is the article I'm talking about...

He grew up in Georgia and played baseball his whole life. Chose a life of science over pursuing lower level college sports.
